Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 761: A Lifetime of Regret
In a corner room on the second floor of the Suttons’ house.
Inside, there was the clatter of keyboard typing. Norman Sutton sat at the computer with headphones on, clearly dominating the game, yet his face looked grim and displeased.
"Knock, knock—"
The sound of knocking pierced through his headphones, yet Norman Sutton remained oblivious, focused solely on the game’s screen.
"Six, I know you heard me, hurry up and open the door." Phoebe King’s voice came from outside. Norman Sutton definitely heard her, but simply furrowed his brows tighter, unmoving, showing no intent to open the door.
No need to think to know, she’s looking for him just to nag, and just the thought of it is annoying enough.
"If you don’t open the door, I’ll get Mom to use the key, and then it won’t just be me bothering you."
Norman Sutton knew very well that once Hazel Yates starts nagging, she’ll never stop. If Phoebe King really brought Hazel Yates over, he’d be in hot water.
After weighing the pros and cons, Norman Sutton took off his headphones and went to unlock the door.
"What?"
Phoebe King squeezed through the doorway, inspecting as she spoke, "Nothing much, just checking in on you as a good sister-in-law."
Norman Sutton scoffed, "Come off it! It’s a miracle if you don’t bother me, and you say you’re concerned?"
Phoebe King munched on sunflower seeds, plopped down in the computer chair, and said to Norman Sutton, "What are you talking about? Has this sister-in-law ever treated you poorly? I noticed you’re acting weird ever since I introduced Lana to Lance Quincy. You can’t be..."
Phoebe King deliberately paused, looking surprised, and continued, "You can’t be in love with Lana, can you?"
Norman Sutton’s expression turned surprised, then quickly denied without thinking, "I like her?! Don’t talk nonsense! I can’t stand her!"
Phoebe King assumed a theatrical look, implying, "Maybe you dislike seeing her with other men, that’s why."
Norman Sutton looked flustered, "Stop being presumptuous! What does she being with someone have to do with me?"
Phoebe King: "Oh? Then you stayed hidden in your room all day; was it because you lost the game and got upset?"
Norman Sutton: "None of your business! If there’s nothing else, leave, I’m about to start streaming."
Phoebe King: "Tsk, tsk, look at you now, completely like a resentful soul. Listen to this sister-in-law’s advice: love doesn’t wait, missing it might be a lifelong regret."
Norman Sutton: "You’re so annoying!"
Phoebe King stood up, walked to Norman Sutton, patted his shoulder, and said, "You can’t blame Lana for not feeling the same. Think about it, if it were you, would you like someone who often teases, belittles, or considers you worthless?"
Norman Sutton yelled, "Who said I want her to like me?!"
Watching Norman Sutton get angry, Phoebe King smiled with satisfaction, walked to the door, sighed deliberately, and said, "Ah, some people just can’t let go of their pride!"
The door closed, and silence returned to the room.
But Norman Sutton’s heart couldn’t calm down, it felt like a fire raging inside that couldn’t be extinguished.
At the scheduled streaming time, he didn’t start the stream but flopped onto the bed, scrolling through photos taken with Lana Holloway during their trip abroad.
Repeating Phoebe King’s words in his mind, his thoughts turned chaotic.
If Lana Holloway really got together with Lance Quincy, she might even move abroad with him, and next time he sees her, Lana Holloway might be holding a kid calling him uncle...
Just thinking about it, even the mere thought made Norman Sutton feel suffocated.
"Ding—"
A text alert sounded from his phone.
Norman Sutton picked up his phone, seeing it was from an unknown number.
The text said: Hi, I’m Lance Quincy.
Upon seeing the message, Norman Sutton didn’t even bother to find out what Lance wanted. Just seeing his name annoyed him, and the first thing he wanted to do was block him.
But just as he was about to block Lance Quincy, another message came through: I’d like to talk about Lana. Are you free at 4 PM today? Let’s meet up.
Seeing the words "Lana," Norman Sutton paused from blocking, but internally wondered, what does Lance want from him? Isn’t it just to annoy him by bragging about how well he’s getting along with Lana Holloway?
Thinking about how Lana Holloway seemed to enjoy Lance’s company yesterday, spending the whole day together, probably even chatting fervently when they got back. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
He didn’t want anything to do with their mess!
With these thoughts, Norman Sutton’s finger hovered over the block option, yet Lance sent another message with an address unsolicited: Let’s meet at the café nearest to your house.
After reading the message, Norman Sutton didn’t know if Lance sent anything else, because he promptly blocked Lance altogether.
He decided in his heart he wouldn’t show up.
However, in the following hour, his mind couldn’t help but linger on the matter. He got up, booted up his computer, and tried streaming to distract himself.
Unexpectedly, even the viewers in the stream noticed his lack of focus, asking if he was in a bad mood. He wondered if those guys were leading the audience, mentioning heartache, asking if he’d recently broken up.
Causing his female fans to get all excited, incessantly asking for details, wondering who the girl was.
Seeing the computer clock hit four, Norman Sutton continued playing the horror escape room game he was streaming.
Usually known as the "Escape Room Prince," today, after an hour of streaming, his progress was minimal.
The live-streaming girls were stuck around the topic of romance endlessly, driving him to distraction, unable to focus on the game.
After another ten minutes, he glanced at his phone again, curious if Lance noticed he hadn’t shown up and messaged again. Also wondering if Lance was with Lana Holloway.
Wouldn’t it be cunning if he arranged for them both to come and embarrass him?
Deeply conflicted, Norman Sutton nonchalantly told the stream viewers, "I have to leave for a bit, I’ll continue tonight."
As soon as he said that, the chat erupted with questions, "Are you going on a date?"
Norman Sutton quipped, "No girlfriend, what date? My sister-in-law wants to go shopping and asked me to drive."
Only for his "sister-in-law" watching the stream to pop up, "I haven’t planned to shop at all, nor asked you to drive."
Silently cursing Phoebe King, Norman Sutton quickly countered, "Not this sister-in-law, we’ll talk tonight, bye."
With that, Norman Sutton quickly ended the stream, shut down the computer, grabbed his phone and car keys, and hurried downstairs.
