Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 766: For You
Lana Holloway followed Lance Quincy to the third floor.
Since the auction was scheduled for the evening, the third floor was not crowded at the moment. Only some staff preparing for the auction were coming and going in the corridors.
Lana Holloway asked, "Isn’t the auction starting in the evening? What are we doing up here now?"
Lance Quincy: "Some seniors are chatting in a meeting room over there, and one of the teachers is very interested in your work. She saw us together this morning and asked if I could introduce you."
Lana Holloway smiled and softly asked, "Which country is she from? My foreign language skills aren’t that great."
Lance Quincy: "Serephina. She’s sort of my teacher. When I was in school, she taught a few substitute classes. Recently, she’s become really interested in traditional Chinese ink paintings and said she noticed your work quite a while ago."
Lance Quincy and Lana Holloway chatted, casting a glance towards the ballroom.
Earlier, he messaged Norman Sutton but got no response. Not sure if that guy was ready, he decided he would chat with Lana for a while to buy Norman some time.
He was actually quite worried that Norman might chicken out and run away. However, he had sent staff to quietly check in the ballroom earlier; Norman hadn’t left and was still tidying himself up in front of the mirror. It seemed the plan was on track.
Norman Sutton was nervously pacing in the ballroom, going over countless lines in his mind, yet none felt appropriate. He still hadn’t figured out what he should say when Lana Holloway appeared.
He even felt like he was being set up somehow, wondering how it had turned into him proposing to Lana Holloway.
He waited and waited, yet there was no movement outside the ballroom.
He checked the time; barely ten minutes had passed, yet it felt like an eternity.
Finally, he couldn’t resist texting back to that number: Where is she?
Lance Quincy glanced at the message, noticing Norman Sutton was ready and getting impatient. He chuckled softly, then switched over to another message page and sent a new text.
Soon after, a middle-aged man in a suit entered the meeting room where people were chatting, walked directly over to Lana Holloway, and asked softly, "Are you Miss Holloway?"
Lana Holloway was a bit stunned, then politely nodded, "Yes, that’s me. Is there something wrong?"
The middle-aged man, following Lance Quincy’s instructions, said to Lana Holloway, "There’s a gentleman outside looking for you."
Lana Holloway was taken aback. She thought about how she had decided to come today without notifying anyone she knew in the industry. She shouldn’t have anyone looking for her, so she suspiciously asked, "Who is it?"
The middle-aged man hesitated, glanced discreetly at Lance Quincy, and continued, "I don’t know him. He just showed me your photo and specifically asked to meet you."
Lance Quincy chimed in, "You should go take a look. Perhaps someone has found their prodigy in you."
Lana Holloway didn’t believe anyone had recognized her talent, but her curiosity got the better of her. She thought she hadn’t offended anyone and in such a grand event, nobody would dare to do anything harmful to her. She stood up and whispered to Lance Quincy, "I’ll go take a look then."
Lance Quincy nodded, "Go ahead."
Lana Holloway stood up and followed the middle-aged man out of the meeting room, yet found the long corridor empty.
"Who’s looking for me? Where is everyone?"
The middle-aged man pointed towards the end of the corridor where the ballroom was and smiled at Lana Holloway, "Miss, please follow me. The gentleman is waiting for you over there."
Lana Holloway, full of confusion, walked in high heels after the middle-aged man towards the ballroom.
Thankfully, staff occasionally passed by in the corridor, which eased her anxiety somewhat.
The mysteriousness was piquing her curiosity further.
Norman Sutton stood alone in the center of the ballroom, holding flowers and pretending that the air in front of him was Lana Holloway, kneeling on one knee, practicing.
But he just couldn’t bring himself to say those corny words and even found such actions unbearably awkward.
As soon as he heard footsteps approaching outside the ballroom, he stood up from the floor. Before he could react further, the voice of the middle-aged man rang out, "Miss Holloway, please come in; he’s inside now."
Immediately followed by Lana Holloway’s voice, "Thank you."
Then came the sound of the man turning and leaving, and after that, Lana Holloway peeked her head around the doorway to look inside.
When their eyes met, both were surprised, then Lana Holloway walked out from the doorway, looking at Norman Sutton with confusion and asked, "Why are you here? Was it you looking for me?"
Norman Sutton swallowed hard. He knew this moment would come, yet he still wasn’t ready to face it, or rather, even with more time, he wouldn’t know how to face Lana Holloway.
Lana Holloway glanced at the bouquet in Norman Sutton’s hands, puzzled, as she walked in, looking around the vast ballroom and then at Norman Sutton as if he were crazy. "You’re alone? What are you doing here? Taking artistic photos?"
Norman Sutton suddenly felt like the bouquet in his hand was a hot potato, wanting nothing more than to throw it away immediately: "What I... what I’m doing here is none of your business! In fact, I should be asking why you’re here!"
Lana Holloway: "Wasn’t it you who called me here?"
Norman Sutton: "Who called you?"
Lana Holloway simply thought it was another one of Norman Sutton’s pranks. Her tone was a bit irritated as she said, "If I had known it was you, I wouldn’t have come!"
Saying this, Lana Holloway turned towards the door to leave.
Feeling irritated to no end, Norman Sutton, in a heated moment, commanded her, "Stop!"
Lana Holloway did stop, but she turned back and said, "Don’t you have anything better to do all day? Do you just enjoy playing these silly games?"
Norman Sutton frowned and shouted at her, "Come back!"
Lana Holloway snorted, twisted her head, and continued walking towards the door.
Norman Sutton chased after her, annoyed, "I told you to come back!"
Within a few steps, he caught up to her and grabbed her arm. Lana Holloway glared at him, "What exactly do you want?!"
Her words hadn’t even left her lips fully when she saw Norman Sutton suddenly get shorter, realizing he had knelt on one knee in front of her. Lana Holloway was completely stunned. Her mind went blank, completely forgetting to be angry.
"Wha... what are you doing?"
Norman Sutton awkwardly averted his gaze, stiffly offering the bouquet to Lana Holloway, speaking in a muffled voice, "It’s for you."
Lana Holloway felt even more unnerved. She looked down at the flowers in Norman Sutton’s hand, and her first thought wasn’t why he was giving her flowers, but rather what trick might be hidden within them.
Wouldn’t it just figure if, as soon as she reached out to take them all touched by his gesture, something would spring out from the bouquet to scare her, and Norman Sutton would laugh heartily from the side...
