Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 779: The One She Loves Is Me
Hearing Miles Sterling’s voice, Vanessa Sterling’s entire body trembled.
She remained lying on her side, not giving any response to Miles Sterling.
The room was quiet for a few seconds, then Miles Sterling’s voice sounded again: "Get up and drink this."
Vanessa Sterling still didn’t react, as if she had already fallen asleep and hadn’t heard what Miles Sterling had said.
Miles Sterling had anticipated Vanessa Sterling’s reaction, but he had already tried his best to speak calmly and patiently, yet Vanessa Sterling remained so ungrateful.
His already limited patience vanished completely, and Miles Sterling didn’t say another word. He directly pulled the quilt off Vanessa Sterling, yanked her up from the bed, and shoved the cup of brown sugar water into her hands: "Vanessa Sterling, I advise you not to make things difficult for yourself."
"Splash—"
The hot brown sugar water was splashed onto Miles Sterling’s face. He was furious and surprised, completely not expecting Vanessa Sterling to have the guts.
"Vanessa Sterling—" Miles Sterling gritted his teeth and glared at Vanessa Sterling. Her expression showed no fear or anxiety, as if what she did was perfectly justified and she had no remorse at all.
Upon hearing that Miles Sterling had come, Bianca Jennings pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing Miles Sterling’s hair still dripping and his clothes wet, Bianca Jennings was also taken aback. She then just stood by the door, wanting to see how Miles Sterling would react.
The two were deadlocked for a few seconds before Miles Sterling stormed out with an extremely unpleasant expression.
But Bianca Jennings was already quite satisfied with this; at least, in a fit of anger, he knew how to control his temper.
In the past, if Vanessa Sterling dared splash water on his face, she would have likely been on the way to the hospital by now.
A servant came in to change Vanessa Sterling’s bed sheets, and Bianca Jennings went downstairs to bring up another cup of brown sugar water at an appropriate temperature, handing it to Vanessa Sterling and saying, "Drink this and lie down. Gently rub your stomach with your hand; it might make you feel a bit better."
Vanessa Sterling reached out to take the cup, whispering, "Thank you."
"Audrey called me just now, asking about your condition. She also said she found someone to take care of things over there with Jasper Jones, so you don’t have to worry."
Vanessa Sterling nodded thoughtfully, taking a few sips of warm water from the cup. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
From the start, she shouldn’t have involved Jasper Jones. If she hadn’t, he wouldn’t have to suffer from these undeserved disasters.
With Shane Warner protecting Audrey, Miles Sterling wouldn’t dare to easily do anything to her.
But Jasper Jones was just an ordinary person; for Miles Sterling, dealing with Jasper Jones would be easier than crushing an ant.
That bright and joyful boy seemed to have been dragged into this never-ending abyss with her.
After making sure Vanessa Sterling was asleep, Bianca Jennings knocked on Miles Sterling’s door.
Miles Sterling opened the door, seeming to have just taken a shower. He was already in fresh pajamas with his hair still dripping, and was holding a towel while wiping his head.
The disgruntled expression clearly showed he was still displeased with the water that had been splashed on him earlier.
"Can we talk?"
Miles Sterling glanced at Bianca Jennings a couple of times before stepping aside to let her in.
Bianca Jennings entered the room, first glancing around Miles Sterling’s room.
Probably because a servant cleaned every day, it looked relatively tidy and clean.
Miles Sterling casually wiped his head a few more times, tossed the towel into the dirty laundry basket, sat on the bed, picked up a pack of cigarettes from the bedside, lit one, took a puff, and then asked Bianca Jennings, "Just how long will it take to make her forget those past events?"
"Which events?" Bianca Jennings asked knowingly.
Miles Sterling’s face turned gloomy, and he took another puff of his cigarette.
Bianca Jennings sat on the nearby sofa, pretended to understand, and laughed, "Oh, you’re talking about those times when you lost your temper and hit her? Those things are quite easy; let her sleep it off tonight, and by tomorrow she’ll have forgotten. But can you promise you’ll never lose control of your emotions and lay a hand on her again in the future?"
Miles Sterling replied with a determined tone, "I can."
Bianca Jennings chuckled, "It’s easy to say those words, but I need to observe if you really can do it. Otherwise, it’ll be pointless work for me. Once you’ve learned to control your emotions and temper, I can then proceed to hypnotize Vanessa."
Miles Sterling said, "It’s not just about making her forget the past; there’s one more thing..."
Bianca Jennings raised an eyebrow, "Hmm?"
Miles Sterling looked down and gently tapped the ash from his cigarette into the ashtray, saying, "To make her believe that... the person she loves is me."
Bianca Jennings nodded readily and said, "That’s doable, but that’s just her perception of love. After prolonged interaction, when she comes to see the real you, I can’t ensure she won’t question why she fell for a man like that."
Miles Sterling growled in dissatisfaction, "I said I will change!"
Bianca Jennings laughed again, "But looking at you now, it doesn’t seem like you’ve changed much."
Miles Sterling irritably stubbed out the half-smoked cigarette in the ashtray, stood up, and said, "Just do your part; the rest is my own business."
Bianca Jennings smiled, walked to the door, and before leaving, said to Miles Sterling, "Actually, you don’t really understand what love is."
Miles Sterling’s heart was uncertain about what would become of him and Vanessa Sterling in the future. He felt lost.
Even if he and Vanessa started anew, he hadn’t figured out what kind of person he should be in their relationship.
But he felt that they probably wouldn’t repeat past mistakes.
Late at night, unable to sleep due to troubles on his mind, Miles Sterling opened the door and went downstairs.
Blackie was curled up in the corner of the sofa, its sleeping posture revealing its vigilance and unease in this place.
Because in the previous home, Blackie used to sleep belly up, sprawled out with no defense.
Miles Sterling sat on the sofa, reached out, picked up Blackie, and placed it on his lap.
"Meow~"
Miles Sterling gently petted the kitten, thinking that once Vanessa Sterling forgot those past events, as long as he treated her well, she would also, like Blackie, let go of her initial defenses and become especially reliant on him.
Due to stomach discomfort, Vanessa Sterling didn’t sleep well.
She woke up around five o’clock, and without disturbing the servant who was dozing off by the bed, she took her crutch to the bathroom, then grabbed the water cup from the bedside, preparing to go downstairs to get some hot water.
She thought there would be no one downstairs at this hour, but the moment she reached the living room, she saw Miles Sterling lying on the sofa.
Seemingly asleep, and to her surprise, Blackie was curled up beside him.
Vanessa Sterling hadn’t expected to see Blackie again; she thought that after she left, Miles Sterling would have discarded Blackie long ago.
But as it turned out, Blackie seemed to be well taken care of, plump and no longer the skinny, pitiful figure she had rescued.
