Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 826: Annoying Cousin
It was past four in the afternoon when Seraphina Vaughn woke up with a feeling of hunger.
The sun was still shining brightly outside the window, making it seem like it was noon.
Seraphina rubbed her eyes and reached for her phone at the bedside table, only to find the charging cord. She searched the bed thoroughly but couldn’t find the phone.
Sitting up in bed and pondering over it for a while, she recalled that she had left her phone charging while playing Mahjong yesterday.
She sluggishly got up and changed clothes, ordered something to eat at the dining car, and headed straight for the recreational vehicle.
Everyone else was gathered over on the grass, so the vehicle was quiet.
Seraphina boarded the vehicle and went directly to the power outlet by the Mahjong table, vaguely remembering that she had left her phone there to charge, but at the moment, the outlet was empty.
Could it be that she remembered wrong? Or did someone take it?
Just as Seraphina was about to step off the vehicle to ask the cleaning lady, the door to one side of the computer room opened from inside.
Julian Bishop pushed open the door and came out, pausing momentarily when he saw Seraphina.
When Seraphina saw him, she inexplicably felt guilty, and the event from that night immediately flashed in her mind.
Yet, since the two hadn’t interacted in days, Julian probably didn’t know that it was she who had that night with him.
Seraphina didn’t have a good impression of Julian; she found him pretentious and superficial.
Even though they had a one-night stand, Seraphina still didn’t give Julian a pleasant look.
She didn’t say a word and just rolled her eyes as she was about to leave the vehicle.
Julian suddenly asked, "Are you looking for something?"
Seraphina paused, turned to look at Julian, and heard him continue, "I saw a phone over there and worried it might get lost, so I took the liberty of putting it away. Are you looking for it?"
Seraphina frowned and questioned, "Why did you take my phone? Give it back!"
Julian replied calmly, "Just a moment."
Watching Julian turn and go back into the room, he emerged shortly thereafter holding a phone, which he handed to Seraphina.
Seraphina snatched it from him and, without feeling grateful, irritably asked Julian, "Did you look inside it?!"
Julian answered gently, "I just put it in a drawer."
Seraphina muttered, "Busybody."
Then she left the vehicle without looking back, holding her phone.
Julian watched Seraphina’s departing figure, never associating her with the girl from that night, only puzzled as to why she disliked him.
Why did this girl dislike him so much?
By a little past six in the evening, it was still quite bright outside.
The dinner prepared was Western-style, with utensils laid out at each place on the long table.
Just as they were about to start eating, an "unannounced guest" arrived.
"Cousin! I’ve finally caught up with you guys! I almost got sick from the ride!"
Without looking, just hearing the voice, Audrey Sutton knew it was Shane’s annoying cousin, Heath Holloway.
Apparently, Heath hadn’t seen Shane in the company for a while and had learned from Vincent Warner that they were on a trip.
But Audrey knew this wasn’t enough to lure Heath all the way over here.
The boy must have spotted Vanessa Sterling in Luc or Faye Xavier’s social media posts, prompting him to come all this way.
During Vanessa’s disappearance, Heath had persistently tried to get information about her from Audrey, but Audrey didn’t like Heath, the frivolous kid, so she didn’t tell him anything.
Watching Heath walk over with a smile on his face, Audrey quietly asked Shane, who was seated beside her, "Why is he here?"
Shane responded casually, "Company’s on break; he said he’s here to hang out for a couple of days. Better he cause trouble here than elsewhere."
Audrey didn’t say much, thinking that with Shane here, Heath wouldn’t dare act out of line.
Vanessa also remembered Heath, and Heath made no effort to hide it, sitting diagonally across from Vanessa, with his eyes almost constantly on her, as if worried people didn’t know he was here for her.
Vanessa kept her head down, quietly eating, feeling somewhat awkward.
Thankfully, there were many people at the table, and Heath did not engage her in conversation.
Vanessa finished what was on her plate and was almost full.
Seeing Laura Yates holding Clary without eating properly throughout, Vanessa wiped her mouth with a napkin, then reached over to take Clary, telling Laura, "Let me take him to play over there; take your time to eat."
Laura asked in surprise, "Are you already full?"
Vanessa nodded with a smile, "Yes, I ate a lot of fruit in the afternoon, so I wasn’t very hungry."
Laura said, "Thanks then."
In recent days, Vanessa and Clary had become well-acquainted, so Clary, who was quite clingy, could leave Laura for a bit and play with Vanessa.
Vanessa took the child over to the picnic mat, where there were all sorts of children’s toys, like a mini playground. Even Summer, who didn’t enjoy eating, was left there by Phoebe King, under the care of the servants.
Meanwhile, Anna made sure to be at the table for every meal, more eager than anyone else to eat, and wasn’t picky, eating whatever she was fed.
Seeing Vanessa leave the table, Heath wolfed down his steak in a few bites, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and walked over to Vanessa.
He began talking like an old acquaintance, "Where have you been lately? Haven’t seen you in ages."
Vanessa glanced at Heath, watching as he plopped down cross-legged next to her, holding a child’s toy, while casually entertaining the child and asking, "Did you move? I went by your previous place a few times but never found you."
Feeling somewhat awkward, Vanessa shifted slightly to the side but managed a polite laugh and said, "Yes, I don’t live there anymore."
Heath immediately asked, "Where do you live now? Are you still in Rivia? You didn’t leave me your contact info before, which made it hard to find you."
Vanessa just awkwardly laughed, unsure how to respond, as she wasn’t good at such exchanges, especially with a man she knew was interested in her but wasn’t very familiar with.
Heath, however, was straightforward, pulling out his phone from his bag and presenting his QR code to Vanessa: "Add me as a friend, having more friends isn’t a bad thing."
Vanessa hesitated, her subconscious still influenced by Miles Sterling’s past constraints, instinctively making her want to reject any men who approached her.
