My Avatar is Becoming the Ultimate BOSS-Chapter 779 - 399: The Death of Jack the Ripper
August 24, 18:30. It was a cool and refreshing evening.
The "Big White Rabbit" typhoon did not arrive on time as the weather forecast predicted. The sky was now a blend of soft blue and dusk's yellow hue.
The coastal fjord city was bathed in the setting sun, with wind turbines at the harbor leisurely spinning. The sea shimmered, and lights were bright in every household, making one think it was just an ordinary evening.
At the moment, beneath the Old Wu Antiques Shop.
After a full day of partying in the underground bar, most of the White Crow Travel Brigade had dispersed.
Now, Zhong Wujiu had already left Hai Fan City with Zhuge Hui, and Lin Xingshi's whereabouts were unknown. There were no rivals left in Hai Fan City that could threaten the White Crow Travel Brigade.
Even if discovered by the Exorcist Association, there was no risk for them.
So, Anluns and Robert put on face masks, changed into a set of jaunty floral suits they had never worn, and walked shoulder to shoulder into the local casino.
As expected, Urushibara Osamu also disappeared. His whereabouts, as usual, were elusive, hard to catch except during operations; Bloodline said they wanted to go alone to the seaside, take a walk, and enjoy the sunset and sea breeze.
Thus, for the time being, only Xia Pingzhou, Yanmo Lin, Ayase Origami, Andrew, Bai Tanlang, Hacker, and Ryukawa Chiba were left in the bar.
Xia Pingzhou turned the doorknob and walked out from a private room, glancing at the scene in the bar.
Andrew was slumped over the bar, drunk, Bai Tanlang stood against the wall, arms crossed, head down in contemplation, Ryukawa Chiba flipped through an anatomy book, and Ayase Origami drank orange juice alone.
Finally, he cast his gaze toward a girl in black and white JK uniform in the corner.
She placed a scabbard on the bar and sat on it herself, nibbling on puffed snacks while watching the cartoons on TV.
Yanmo Lin's facial expression remained unchanged for a long while until she noticed Xia Pingzhou staring at her, then she turned her head and glanced at him.
Xia Pingzhou exchanged a look with her, then walked over and sat on the swivel chair next to Yanmo Lin.
"What's the matter?" Yanmo Lin asked casually, eyes still glued to the TV.
"Just wanted to chat with you. Is that okay?" Xia Pingzhou replied.
"Unusual, not running off to sweet-talk your young mistress?" Yanmo Lin sneered. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Xia Pingzhou was silent for a moment, glanced at the black furry gloves on his hand, "The young mistress said you helped her pick these."
"Your birthday gift, huh," Yanmo Lin said lightly, "She's too clueless, dawdling alone in the mall for ages. I couldn't stand it, so I gave her some casual advice."
"I should thank you, otherwise I'd have no idea what weird things she'd pick for me."
With that, Xia Pingzhou took out a phone from his pocket, detached a cat pendant from it, and placed it on the bar. The chain coiled beneath the pendant, the cat sitting dazedly on the tabletop.
"Instead of chatting with me, why don't you go find her?" Yanmo Lin said, "She just complained to me via phone that you've been avoiding her for the past two days."
"Really?"
Yanmo Lin took out a phone from her uniform pocket, placed it on the table, and casually pushed it toward Xia Pingzhou.
The phone slid around the bar, landing in Xia Pingzhou's palm. He picked it up and glanced at it nonchalantly.
[KamiNeko: Jack.]
[Hell Maiden: Speak.]
[KamiNeko: Did I do something wrong?]
[Hell Maiden: What do you mean?]
Xia Pingzhou was silent for a moment, shifting his gaze away from the phone screen.
He asked, "How did you deduce from this conversation that she was talking about me?"
"What else could it be?" Yanmo Lin said, "Why else would our young mistress be emotionally disturbed? Instead, shouldn't you ask yourself why you're avoiding her?"
She paused, "We should have discussed this before, if you make her sad, I'll chop you up."
Xia Pingzhou put down the phone, sliding it to her across the table.
"When did you join the brigade?" he looked up at the TV and suddenly asked.
"Don't change the topic."
"Answer my question first, and then I'll answer yours."
"A year ago," Yanmo Lin thought for a moment, then said.
"Why did you join the brigade?"
"Do I need a reason?"
"Yes."
"Just simple interest. At the time, the leader sent me an invitation." Yanmo Lin said, casting a side glance at Ayase Origami, "If there's any need for a reason, it's because I saw she was in the brigade too."
"Her?"
"I dropped out of school when I was young to help manage a bookstore for my family. I met her a few times there; back then, she was still the young mistress of the Ayase family, and Oda Takashige always followed her around." Yanmo Lin said, glancing at the kimono-clad girl in the distance scanning a haiku collection, "She always looked empty. I felt she was a lot like me, so I remembered her."
"I see," Xia Pingzhou said, "You two have quite the destiny."
He paused, taking a sip of orange juice with ice, before saying:
"Actually, we have quite the destiny too."
"What kind of destiny do we have?" Yanmo Lin asked, "I don't recall meeting you before."
"You killed my parents, does that count as a type of destiny?" Xia Pingzhou asked expressionless.
"Do you think that kind of joke is funny?" Yanmo Lin said expressionless, "We all know you're an orphan, with an albino sister you're looking for."
