My Avatar is Becoming the Ultimate BOSS-Chapter 808 - 405: The Betraying Mentor and the Salvation Society’s Complete Frenzy
"It's a good idea, but I don't intend to do so," the Mentor replied.
"Why not?"
"Because at this point, if they suddenly find out their entire lives have been manipulated, even their pain and the joy of overcoming it were all imposed, wouldn't that be even more pathetic?"
"You're right, they have the right to know the truth."
"No, I just hope they can die a little less painfully," the Mentor shook his head, "They all like you, dying together with them would be great."
He lowered his voice: "At least for them, it wouldn't be so lonely. If one can die without being alone, that's a kind of fulfillment."
"But I'm not planning to die. I'm only 12, I have a whole life ahead of me."
Ji Minghuan paused, recalling faces in his mind, some of girls in crimson kimonos, others of a big guy running with lightning.
"Someone's waiting for me," he said.
The Mentor interjected: "No, your life ended the moment you were sent here. You should think this way, so you'll have fewer regrets when death comes."
"Alright, alright... as expected of our Mentor, becoming dark and still like a little rabbit." Ji Minghuan averted his gaze, looking at those old men squirming like worms on the ground, "I'm tired of this, what's the point of these old men?"
He paused: "I want to see Kong Youling."
Just as he finished speaking, gunshots suddenly rang out. The experimenters in white robes drew handguns from their pockets, aimed at the back of the Salvation Society leaders' heads, and shot them one by one.
"Bang! Bang! Bang—!"
The shots resounded repeatedly, blood splattered, staining an entire wall red.
Ji Minghuan watched silently from the corner of his eye, while the Mentor remained calm, sipping water from his insulated cup, his lenses reflecting the blood on the wall.
"They're all waiting for you in the Simulation Space," the Mentor said, "Go, child, enjoy your last moments of happiness."
After saying this, he picked up the bottle, stepped over the bodies of the old men, and left without looking back.
Ji Minghuan slowly lifted his head, quietly watching the Mentor's back, then stood up from the table and walked towards the experimenters.
Upon seeing him, the experimenters immediately put away their guns.
"You'll take care of these bodies, right?" Ji Minghuan said, "They're disgusting."
The experimenters nodded silently.
"Good. Hurry up, clean this up before I return." With that, Ji Minghuan followed a group of experimenters into the corridor.
The bright light blurred everything; nothing was visible.
Hearing the footsteps of the experimenters stop, Ji Minghuan also came to a halt.
After a while, a rumbling sound came, and a large door slowly opened ahead.
He entered silently, ready to open his eyes when suddenly he felt a pair of cool hands covering them from behind.
"Guess who I am?" someone asked softly.
"Why not just make a 'gugu gaga' sound?" Ji Minghuan said lightly, "Then I can guess what species of penguin you are; it's more challenging."
The person was silent for a moment, then said:
"Gaga gugu."
"You've got it backward, idiot."
"What species?"
"I guess you're a spinning penguin today, that's why the sound is reversed."
Kong Youling heard this, chuckled lightly, then released her hands from his eyes.
Ji Minghuan looked around, the silver-white space was still empty, only Kong Youling and himself, the other children had not arrived yet.
Kong Youling bounced in front of him, her snow-white bangs swaying, looking up at him, "You're taller."
"Really?"
Ji Minghuan quietly stared into Kong Youling's eyes. After a while, he tilted his head, and she tilted hers, causing a wisp of white hair to fall onto her ear.
"May I ask you a question?" he suddenly said.
Kong Youling was a little startled, nodded silently, her red eyes staring at him.
Ji Minghuan silently looked at her, then suddenly reached out his hands, cupping her face, and gently squeezed her cheeks, making them pout. Kong Youling was momentarily dazed.
He lowered his voice, almost pausing between each word, and asked:
"Did you leave the Salvation Society's base with the Mentor ten days ago? How else would you know the outside is the Moon?"
