My Avatar is Becoming the Ultimate BOSS-Chapter 813 - 407: Final Evolution of Chess Species
The sunset was about to dip below the horizon, Sun Changkong sat in the fields, surrounded by other children, with the warmth of candlelight and the bloody glow of the sunset covering their faces.
Sun Changkong clasped her fingers together, placed them in front of her chest, closed her eyes, pursed her lips, and muttered to herself. Then, her cheeks slightly puffed, she blew out the candle with a "whoosh."
Kong Youling was very supportive, cheering and clapping while blinking her red eyes.
Filio twitched his ears, curiously asking, "Big sister, what wish did you make?"
"Wishes are irrelevant... only power can lead to ideals," Shang Xiaoqi said coldly, causing the people around to break into a cold sweat, startled by this edgelord's words.
"It's a secret," Sun Changkong hummed, "Anyway, it won't be like someone saying, 'Let's all die happily together.'" As she spoke, she glanced at Ji Minghuan.
Ji Minghuan sat cross-legged on the ground, with a piece of malt straw in his mouth.
He turned his head to meet Sun Changkong's gaze, "I actually guessed your wish from the movement of your lips."
"Really?" Sun Changkong was doubtful.
"Your wish is..."
"My wish is..."
Sun Changkong was slightly stunned, seemingly taken in by Ji Minghuan, revealing a surprised little tiger tooth.
"Just not telling," Ji Minghuan said, clasping his hands around his ankles and turning his cheek away.
"Why won't you say it!"
"Why should I say your wish?" Ji Minghuan replied, "It's not my wish."
Sun Changkong froze for a moment, realizing it was true, then hugged her shoulders and snorted coldly, no longer looking at him.
"Cake time!" Filio had no interest in their words, staring intently at the cake, his tail wagging.
"Eat, eat, eat... y'all can eat."
Mario said expressionlessly, holding a game console in one hand and picking up a plastic knife with the other, about to cut into the cake when Somersault Cloud knocked him over.
Sun Changkong grabbed the plastic knife flying through the air, "It's my birthday; I cut the cake."
"Why didn't you say so earlier..."
Mario pinched his bruised nose, sat up from the ground, and patted the grass off his body.
The children in hospital gowns shared the cake and sat quietly in the fields, eating.
Ji Minghuan had no appetite. He quietly watched the others eat cake, then suddenly reached out, wiped some cream off Kong Youling's mouth, and gave her cheek a pinch. She tilted her head, her snow-white hair fluttering in the evening breeze.
He glanced at the Superpower Suppression Collar on Kong Youling's neck, thinking it'd be better if it wasn't there, so he could release everyone's Spiritual Control and avoid a big battle with them in Iceland a week later.
Shang Xiaoqi lowered her eyes, sucking on a cream-covered fork without speaking.
Ji Minghuan, taking advantage of Sun Changkong's distraction, gave his cake to Filio, stuffing it into the little werewolf's mouth.
Filio choked a bit, gulped down the cake, and released a satisfied sigh while holding his stomach.
"What are you doing, Ji Minghuan?" he asked, both aggrieved and satisfied, rubbing his belly and staring at Ji Minghuan.
Sun Changkong turned back, curiously watching the two, while Ji Minghuan stuck a fork in his mouth to pretend he had finished eating. Suddenly, he said, "By the way, I have a question for you all."
"What question?" Sun Changkong tilted her head, asking curiously.
"If you died, where would you want to be buried?" Ji Minghuan asked, sweeping his gaze over their faces.
The others were stunned by the question. They exchanged glances, wondering why Ji Minghuan was recently spouting nonsense.
"It's just hypothetical," Ji Minghuan placed the empty plastic plate on the ground and clapped his hands, "Don't be so serious... just say casually, where would you prefer to be buried?"
"A strong person like me... would certainly be the last to survive," Shang Xiaoqi snorted coldly through her nose.
"Didn't you say we'd all die together? Then you decide," Mario said without looking up.
"Yeah, where do you want to be buried?" Sun Changkong asked curiously.
"Me?"
"Mm, mm, mm," Filio and Sun Changkong nodded together, while Kong Youling licked her cream.
"I'd want to be buried in a sunny spot," Ji Minghuan thought, "Hmm... preferably next to a café by the sea, so someone could visit me every day."
As he spoke, he suddenly looked up at the last ray of light in the sky.
"Then, no other requirements," he said.
"If I die, it's fine to be buried with you," Sun Changkong blurted out, "This way, we'll be together forever; good friends should always be together."
Ji Minghuan was taken aback, "Alright, let's do that then."
He licked the cream off his fork, thinking, even if the world ends, it wouldn't be the day I die anyway.
After a while, when every child had finished their slice of cake and was sitting in the wheat field chatting, the surrounding environment suddenly changed. What met their eyes was a vast, empty silver space; the sunset by the mountain had vanished, and the vast wheat fields were no longer there.
Instead, lab personnel in white robes entered and took them away.
Ji Minghuan was, as usual, the first to leave. This time, the Mentor did not notify in advance.
"Happy birthday... sweet dreams."
He waved goodbye to Sun Changkong, offering his blessing once more before stepping into the elevator.
Ji Minghuan leaned against the cold wall of the car, giving them one last glance through the gap before closing his eyes slowly.
