My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 149: Crush
A heavy silence filled the study.
The scent of old books and polished wood hung in the air, mingling with the faint smokiness of the fireplace, where embers glowed beneath the charred remains of burning logs. The dim lighting cast long shadows across the vast room, stretching over the mahogany desk where Elion sat, one hand resting against his temple as he stared down at the polished surface.
Kade stood near the bookshelf, his arms crossed, a calm look settling over his usually sharp features. His eyes flickered with a seriousness as he broke the silence.
"The situation is more dire than I expected," he said, his voice low.
Elion didn't respond immediately. His fingers tapped lightly against the wood, slow and rhythmic, the only sound in the room besides the occasional crackle from the fireplace. His gaze was distant, as if replaying something in his mind.
He thought back to the previous day.
That strange, unsettling feeling of being watched. The moment his instincts had flared—primal, unshakable—as if something, or someone, had been observing him and Raelynn. He had brushed it off then, telling himself it was just paranoia. But then, later that night…
Raelynn had seen something too.
She had heard something.
And then she had gotten hurt.
Elion's jaw clenched slightly. Coincidence? He didn't believe in those. Not in his world.
Finally, he looked up, his icy blue eyes meeting Kade's. "What about those men?" he asked, his voice calm but carrying an underlying weight.
Kade exhaled sharply, pushing away from the bookshelf and walking toward the desk. He leaned against it, arms still crossed. "They claim they were hired to ambush you. Paid well, but never saw the face of the one who gave the order."
Elion narrowed his eyes. "And you believe them?"
Kade let out a short, humorless laugh. "If it's that shitty organization, then yes. They never show themselves to anyone." He shook his head, his expression darkening. "It makes sense, doesn't it? No names, no faces, just pawns sent to do their bidding. They get what they want, and if their men die in the process, they don't care."
Elion leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepling as he considered this. His eyes flickered with something cold and calculating. "It was reckless," he mused. "Too reckless to attack me in a public space like that. Unless…" He trailed off, a thought forming in his mind.
Kade finished the sentence for him. "Unless they were testing something."
A muscle in Elion's jaw twitched. "Exactly."
Kade let out a long sigh, raking a hand through his dark hair. "Good grief," he muttered, shaking his head. "They really sacrificed those men's lives just to test the waters?"
Elion leaned back slightly, his fingers tapping once against the armrest before curling into a fist. Ironic. That was the only word for it.
They always called him heartless, a monster incapable of empathy, yet here they were—sending men to die, knowing full well they wouldn't stand a chance. And for what? A test? A gamble?
Elion's fingers curled slightly against the desk. He had seen this kind of strategy before. The organization in question never wasted resources unless there was a greater purpose behind it. If they had sent pawns so openly, it meant one thing:
They were measuring his strength.

Assessing his limits.
Pushing to see how much they could get away with.
That thought alone made his blood simmer.
His gaze shifted back to Kade, his expression unreadable. "And their fate?"
Kade shrugged, though there was something sharp in his eyes. "One of them tried to attack me again after our little conversation." His lips curled slightly, but the amusement didn't reach his gaze. "I had no choice but to kill them all."
Elion's brows lifted slightly. "I believe the right term would be self-defense."
Kade smirked. "Of course, boss."
Despite the faint humor in his tone, the air between them remained tense. They both knew this was only the beginning. If this organization was truly making a move, then what happened yesterday had just been a warning shot.
Kade tilted his head slightly. "So? What's the plan? You want to move to your other mansion?"
Elion's eyes darkened, a dangerous glint flickering in them. "No need," he said smoothly. "That would only show them that I'm afraid." He leaned forward slightly, resting his arms on the desk. "And we both know there's something they're after. Something they're trying to confirm."
Kade's expression shifted subtly. He knew exactly what Elion was implying.
Raelynn.
For the past few weeks, things had been shifting. Elion had felt it. The moment Raelynn had come into his life, things had started moving in ways he hadn't anticipated. And now, this? It was too much of a coincidence.
There was silence between them for a moment, the weight of unspoken thoughts settling into the room like a heavy fog.
Then, without another word, Elion slowly removed the bandages wrapped around his hand. Unraveled the last of the bandages, letting the fabric slip from his fingers, his hand, once marred by a deep wound, was now completely unscathed. Smooth, pale skin stretched over his knuckles, untouched, as if the injury had never existed.
He turned his hand over slowly, watching the way the light caught against his palm. Not even a faint scar remained. It was expected, of course. A mere knife would never harm him.
Flexing his fingers, he tested them out of habit rather than necessity. There was no pain, no lingering discomfort—just the quiet confirmation of what he already knew. Without a word, he placed his hand back down, his expression unreadable.
Then, a smirk curled at his lips.
"They can keep their stupid antics going," he murmured, his voice low and edged with quiet menace. "But I'll be the one who crushes them."
His gaze flickered up, meeting Kade's.
The light cast sharp shadows across his face, highlighting the determination in his eyes.
Kade let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "Well," he drawled, pushing away from the desk, "I almost feel bad for them."
Elion's smirk deepened.
"Almost."
