Chapter 72: 72. The Lightheart Citadel.

The beast roared in pain and its movement became erratic. The archers quickly nocked another arrow and aimed straight at the other eye, and the beast staggered a bit but Aaron used this opportunity to charge forward and he landed a strike on the beast exposed flank, but this only forced the beast to violently lash out its tendrils on all directions.

Meanwhile, Diana swiftly moved to intercept the tendrils and her blade flashed as she cut through the dark tendrils of the beast, forcing it to let out a loud deafening roar.

The beast swiftly gathered miasma to release a massive pulse but Aaron activated {Dual Strike} to link his mind with that out of his beast.

Now, his three beasts knew exactly what was expected of them.

"Now!!!" He shouted and Glimmer, Thunder and Blizzard focused all of their attacks on the beast. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Glimmer’s Inferno Strike engulfed the beast’s chest in flames while Blizzard’s icy breath froze the tendrils attempting to lash out but Thunder charged forward with a devastating Lightning Strike, shattering the beast’s hopes to creating a counter.

Aurora continued to douse the crystal in purification vials while casting a spell as well and it didn’t take long for a beam of light to erupt out of her hands to destroy the crystal.

The red crystal shattered into a million pieces just right when the massive demonic beast couldn’t withstand Aaron’s combined beast attack.

Of course, Aaron released a barrage of attacks as well and his attacks helped in bringing the beast down to the ground, forcing its body to disintegrate into ashes..

With the beast dead and the artifact destroyed, the Grove grew silent and the miasma in the air slowly vanished.

Seeing this, the knights dropped to their knees with tears streaming down their cheeks and they all cheered in unison. "We did it!!!"

Diana sheathed her sword with a smile on her face and Kain did the same as well.

Aaron rewarded everyone with a few hours to rest but within those few hours, Aaron utilized the time he had with him to pay someone a visit.

The moment he returned back and he noticed that everyone had rested well enough, Aaron announced that it was time for everyone to turn their attention to their final target. The Lightheart Citadel.

The journey to the Citadel took Aaron and the group through increasingly hostile terrain. The air was filled with the stench of decay and the trees were wilted as well.

Kain led a group of scouts but returned with a grim report. "My Lord, the amount of miasma here is worse and we’ve spotted demonic beasts patrolling the area,"

Aaron pondered on what he had heard. He knew now would not be a good time to carry out a direct confrontation because with what Kain had said, it seemed like the beasts were being controlled by someone.

So, the best option would be to safely survey the area before knowing what to do next.

And so, with this thought in mind, Aaron and his team pressed on, but as they did, it didn’t take them too long to hear strange noises echoing through the woods.

The snapping sound of branches filled the air and Glimmer’s fur bristled as she m a warning growl.

"We’ve got company," Diana drew out her sword as her eyes scanned the perimeter.

"Stay sharp," Aaron cautioned as well and everyone tightened their grips on their weapons.

The attack came suddenly from the dark spots of the forest and the dark hounds leaped straight at Aaron and his men but Diana was the first to charge into the fray.

Her blade flashed as she struck down the first attacker. Kain and his men formed a defensive line to hold back the advancing beast while Aurora launched long ranged attacks.

Meanwhile, Aaron notified his beasts on what to do, and his three beasts moved with precision.

Glimmer darted around the attackers with her flames and fireballs disrupting their formation while Blizzard unleashed a frozen domain that trapped several creatures in ice.

Meanwhile, Thunder’s lightning strike scattered the remaining beasts, allowing Diana and the archers to easily get rid of the remaining beasts.

Within moments, the ambush of the demonic beasts were neutralized and all the demonic beasts disintegrated into ashes.

"Everyone alright?" Aaron surveyed the group.

"Yes," Aurora replied and Diana walked behind her.

"I’ve had tougher fights," Diana wiped her blade clean with a smirk on her face.

However, Aaron looked around once again but he could see how exhausted his men were, so he decided to give them a break, and besides, it was getting dark, so they really needed to rest for now before doing anything else.

As night fell, the group set up camp in a small clearing. Aaron sat by the fire with Aurora and Diana while his beasts rested nearby.

Glimmer curled up beside him while Aurora and Diana leaned against Blizzard’s soft fur

The girls didn’t waste a second to fall asleep and Aaron did the same as well, right after he had eaten for the night.

The next day, the group reached the edge of a vast, barren plain but they could also see the silhouette of Lightheart Citadel from a distance as well.

"There it is, that’s the citadel," Aurora pointed to the citadel and Kain approached Aaron with a grim look on his face. "Based on what the scouts have seen so far, the scouts report that the Citadel is heavily defended and the walls are reinforced with some kind of dark magic,"

Aaron studied the citadel through the spyglass he was holding and he noted the movement and placement of defenses as well. "We’ll be splitting into two teams. One group will create a distraction at the front gates while the other will infiltrate through a weak point on the rear."

Hearing this, Diana grinned and spoke first. "I call the front. I’ve been itching to fight against more demonic beasts,"

Aaron rolled his eyes with a smirk on his face. "Figures. Then it means Aurora and I will take the infiltration team while Kain and Diana will lead the distraction team,"

"Understood," Kain saluted and everyone made preparations to carry out the plan.

Once a final decision had been made, Aaron addressed them one last time. "This is it. The Citadel is all that remains for us to completely reclaim the elf kingdom and once we do, no one will ever question the might of our strength,"

He looked at each of them and continued with a steady voice. "We’ve come too far to fail now. Trust in yourselves, trust in each other and let’s end this once and for all!!"

The knights erupted into cheers and their spirits were lifted high as well, despite the looming danger ahead of them.

As they moved towards the citadel, Aaron could feel the weight of what was about to happen but since his beasts were with him, he knew victory was within reach.

The Citadel loomed ahead and the group charged forward.

Aaron split the group into two teams as planned, allowing Diana and Kain to lead the frontal assault and to create distractions while Aurora, Aaron and his beasts would infiltrate through a weak point in the rear.

Diana’s team advanced towards the gates and their war cries echoed as they clashed with the forest wave of demonic beasts

Thunderous booms reverberated as Diana led the charge and her blade cleaved through enemies with precision.

Meanwhile, Aaron’s team moved swiftly through the rough terrain, behind the Citadel and Glimmer scouted ahead.

Her fiery body illuminated the shadows and Blizzard stayed close to Aurora. The group continued to slowly approach their destination and the moment Aaron spotted it, he pointed towards it. "Over there. That’s our entry way,"

The knights nodded and they approached cautiously. As they neared the citadel’s rear defenses, Aaron gestured for the group to stop. "Stay low everyone, Glimmer, distract them and Blizzard, be ready to freeze the path if they spot us,"

’With pleasure,’ With his command at the back of her mind, Glimmer darted ahead and her fiery body drew the attention of a few demonic beasts. They hissed and lunged towards Glimmer, not knowing that they were leaving a clear path for the Aaron’s remaining group to slip through the crack in the wall.

Upon entering, the group noticed that the interior of the citadel was like a labyrinth of corridors. As they navigated the corridors, they were able to encounter a few resistance from demonic beasts that lunged at them from the shadows. Glimmer and Blizzard worked together to neutralize the threat while Aurora picked off stragglers with her fire arrows.

And, in a matter of minutes, they were able to reach a large chamber where a glowing orb of dark energy floated at its center.

This was a dark magical artifact and as such, Aaron aimed to destroy it.

However, they were a lot of small demonic beasts guarding it.

More demonic beasts emerged from the darkness but they weren’t the only ones because they were also a few humanoid creatures amid the demonic beasts.
