My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 81: Settling Accounts
Fang Zhen didn’t turn around immediately. His eyes remained fixed on the fat Mercenary as he called out loudly, "Leon, what is it?"
"Sir, there’s someone over here who’s about to die! He’s not a Mercenary, it’s... Max!"
Leon’s voice called out.
Fang Zhen’s brow twitched.
’Max?’
’The same Max from the Redstone Inn, the one who gave me all that information?’
’What’s he doing here?’
Fang Zhen glanced at the fat Mercenary, an answer already forming in his mind.
He turned his head and spotted a coil of rope on the hip of a dead Mercenary.
Fang Zhen walked over, picked up the rope from the dead man, and returned to the fat Mercenary’s side.
"Against the tree. Do it yourself," Fang Zhen said.
Pale from fear and blood loss, the fat Mercenary didn’t dare disobey. He trembled as he shuffled over to a large nearby tree and leaned against it.
Fang Zhen tied a knot with the rope, binding the fat Mercenary to the tree.
He tied the knot skillfully; it would be impossible to break free.
Once that was done, he turned and walked toward the spot where Leon had called out.
Leon was on the other side of the path, some distance from where Fang Zhen had fought. You wouldn’t notice anything unusual unless you looked closely.
Only when Fang Zhen walked over did he see Max tied up behind a large tree.
Max looked terrible. He had clearly been beaten and stabbed, his body was covered in bloodstains, and his face was deathly pale. He was barely conscious.
However, he was still breathing. It seemed he wasn’t dead yet.
Fang Zhen let out a small sigh of relief.
He drew his Nepalese Curved Saber and sliced through the ropes.
Max’s body went limp, and he slumped down from the tree trunk.
Fang Zhen stepped forward and helped ease him to the ground.
He felt Max’s temperature with his hand. He had a high fever. ’Looks like his wounds are infected.’
He frowned and called out, "Quade!"
Quade immediately jogged over.
Fang Zhen had Quade put down his backpack.
He found a small pouch inside and opened it. It was full of medical supplies.
It was only natural to bring medical supplies into a world like this. The kit contained hemostatic bandages, alcohol, several types of strong antibiotics to prevent infection, and medicine for dysentery.
He opened the kit and looked at the drugs inside, a little unsure of which to choose.
’For a wound infection, should I use amoxicillin or ciprofloxacin? Is roxithromycin not strong enough?’
As Fang Zhen was selecting a drug, Leon suddenly let out a startled cry.
"Sir... Mr. Max... he’s not breathing." Leon met Fang Zhen’s gaze, his eyes holding an inexplicable look of apology.
Fang Zhen’s lips tightened.
He carefully checked Max’s condition. There were indeed no signs of breathing.
A silence fell over the scene.
After a long moment, Fang Zhen stood up and let out a long breath.
He wasn’t close with Max. Strictly speaking, they were strangers who had only met once and had a brief interaction.
But Max had always been friendly toward him.
Witnessing the life of such a friendly stranger fade away still stirred something inside Fang Zhen.
He exhaled slowly, a cold glint suddenly flashing in his eyes. He turned and strode toward the tree where the fat Mercenary was tied.
When Fang Zhen reached him, the fat Mercenary was whimpering in pain from his injuries and blood loss.
"Explain. Why was Max here, and how did he die?" Fang Zhen asked, his tone icy.
The fat Mercenary had lost all will to resist. He would answer whatever was asked.
"That peddler overheard one of Rex’s secrets somewhere, and he has a big mouth."
"Rex targeted him. We kidnapped him as he was preparing to leave Redstone Town to teach him a lesson. We didn’t expect him to be so fragile... that he would die," the fat Mercenary said.
Fang Zhen snorted coldly and kicked the fat Mercenary in the gut.
The man cried out in agony but couldn’t move.
"Sir, what should we do?" Leon asked, having followed Fang Zhen and stayed by his side.
"Quade, you watch this guy. You and I are going to find Rex."
"He and I have a score to settle," Fang Zhen said.
「Twenty-some minutes later.」
Following Leon’s directions, Fang Zhen arrived at the depths of the forest.
Deep within the woods was a hillside. The area around it was thick with trees, and on the slope itself was a natural cave, like the gaping maw of some giant monster.
Leon was in the woods, about twenty meters from the cavern. The night sky had cleared slightly, and a few stars had begun to appear.
Using the faint starlight, Leon lowered his voice and pointed at the cave ahead. "That’s it. That’s Rex’s secret hideout. He kidnapped someone, and they’re in there too."
Fang Zhen nodded slightly.
He didn’t rush to attack the cave, instead choosing to wait patiently and observe.
Fang Zhen had waited less than two minutes when he heard Rex’s cursing voice from inside the cave.
Before long, through the view of his Night Vision Goggles, he saw Rex walk out of the cave. He seemed very displeased, kicking an inconveniently placed rock out of his way as he went.
Rex walked out of the cave, went about ten meters to the right, then turned his back to the slope and began to unbuckle his pants.
Rex had to answer nature’s call.
Seeing this, Fang Zhen let out a soft chuckle.
He raised the Cheetah Hunting Crossbow in his hands.
A Crossbow Arrow was already loaded and drawn.
Very calmly, Fang Zhen used the optical sight to aim at Rex’s left buttock.
He still showed some consideration, waiting until the trickling sound of Rex relieving himself was about to end before pulling the trigger.
SWOOSH!
A red streak shot out. In an instant, the Crossbow Arrow pierced Rex’s left buttock, the arrowhead emerging from the front of his hip bone.
"AH!"
Rex screamed. The intense pain instantly robbed him of his ability to fight, and he collapsed to the ground. His body writhed continuously, like a shrimp pulled from the water.
Fang Zhen lowered his Cheetah Hunting Crossbow and slowly walked out from the woods.
He stopped about three meters away from Rex.
"That last arrow pierced your gluteus maximus. It might have damaged your hip joint, the head of your femur, and also the nerves and superior gluteal artery."
"If I were you, I’d struggle less and try not to move. You might live a little longer that way."
Fang Zhen said, looking down at Rex, who was writhing and struggling on the ground.
When Rex managed to see in the faint starlight that his attacker was Fang Zhen, his face went pale as ash.
"Where are my brothers? You attack me, and my brothers won’t let you get away with it!" Even at a time like this, Rex didn’t forget to resort to threats.
"Your brothers were ambushing me, and here I am, perfectly fine. What do you think happened to them?" Fang Zhen replied, a hint of mockery in his voice.
Rex’s expression immediately soured even further.
A moment later, the fierce, threatening expression on Rex’s face, the one where he was gritting his teeth, suddenly changed into one of pleading and fawning.
"Please, don’t kill me! It won’t do you any good. I’m willing to pay to save my own life!"
"Didn’t you come to Redstone Town for money? I’m willing to pay. Just spare my life."
