My Core is the Boss-Chapter 169.2: The Truth Behind the Great Calamity
Within the Glory Rise Sect, True Lord Dan Heng was in the middle of refining pills.
He glanced at the time and frowned. "That brat still hasn't come back after delivering the pills. Who knows where he's off fooling around?"
He sighed helplessly. His disciple reminded him strongly of his own younger self—lazy when he could be, fond of boasting, always cutting corners.
Just then, a hearty laugh rang out.
"Brother Dan Heng, I never expected you to hide things this well!"
Dan Heng froze, then looked up to see Lord Ye Chen arriving with Ye Chan at his side.
"Greetings, Senior," Dan Heng said, bowing politely, though confusion flickered in his heart. He had no idea why Ye Chen would visit him personally.
"You've taken in a fine disciple," Ye Chen remarked with a chuckle.
Dan Heng's heart skipped a beat. Oh no. Don't tell me Gao Xiaoyu has caused trouble again...
"Senior Ye Chen, what do you mean by that?" Dan Heng asked carefully, a hint of irritation in his voice. "Could it be that my useless disciple failed to deliver the pills?"
Did that boy lose sight of what’s important?
"The pills aren't important," Ye Chen replied, studying Dan Heng with a curious gaze. "Do you truly have no idea who your disciple is with right now?"
"With a friend, I believe." Dan Heng sighed, embellishing the story. "That boy values loyalty above all else. One of his friends came here with a powerful enemy to face. Afraid he couldn't handle it alone, he asked my disciple for help. Please forgive him for the delayed delivery of the pills, Senior."
Ye Chen narrowed his eyes and smiled. "Then it seems, Brother Dan Heng, you really don't know."
"Who is it? Did he offend you, Senior?"
"I wouldn't dare offend his friend."
"What?"
"He is the Blood-Clothed Sword God."
Dan Heng stood there in a daze. "What?!"
Ye Chen's smile widened. "With that connection alone, Glory Rise Sect is guaranteed prosperity for ten thousand years."
***
Half a month passed.
During that time, the Blood-Clothed Sword God nearly traversed all of Eastern Lands. The mournful cry of the suona echoed everywhere he went.
Anyone who had once slandered him on the Divine Flower Society forums received their due punishment. Now, when Qi Yuan posted on the forum, every reply overflowed with praise. The hostility, arguments, and snide remarks were nowhere to be seen.
Qi Yuan scrolled through the comments, pleased.
"It seems our campaign to cleanse the cultivation world has been a great success."
Not far away, Jiang Ya remained silent. Success? People are just too scared to speak now!
Lord Great Wisdom sighed. "The atmosphere has indeed improved. Regardless, beneath the flourishing peace, darkness and injustice still lurk like oil blazing atop a roaring fire."
Qi Yuan's gaze grew distinct and thoughtful. "The cleansing isn't finished yet. We still have work to do."
Jiang Ya chimed in. "Senior, we've nearly arrived at Heavenly Ascension Pavilion. My master said all of its techniques will be open to you."
Back on Moonwatch Continent, she and Qi Yuan had made a deal to exchange cultivation manuals. This visit was Qi Yuan's purpose to gather techniques. Though he had obtained many methods from other Yin Spirits, it still wasn't enough. The Golden Core chapter of the Qi Yuan Scripture was a bottomless pit.
The Heavenly Ascension Pavilion had gathered techniques from across Canglan World and beyond. Eastern Lands bordered the Northern Territories, but other regions like the Central Heavens were so distant that even Yin Spirits could not casually reach them. If there was one place with the most complete collection of cultivation techniques in Eastern Lands, it was the Heavenly Ascension Pavilion.
About the time it took for a stick of incense to burn, the spirit ship descended.
A towering pavilion, rising straight into the clouds, appeared before Qi Yuan.
Jiang Ya smiled brightly. "We're here."
Even she hadn't expected that a simple trip to the Eastern Lands Prodigy Battle would lead to so many twists and turns. Everything felt surreal.
A man in white robes stepped forward. "Greetings, Lord Blood-Clothed Sword God."
He was tall, elegant, radiating scholarly grace.
"Senior Brother," Jiang Ya called.
This was her eldest senior brother.
Lord Great Wisdom glanced at him. "Old man Wutian didn't come down?"
The man showed no surprise at the casual address. "My master remains seated within the pavilion. He will not descend until he solves his riddle. Please forgive him, Senior."
"Fine. Take me inside," Qi Yuan said.
He had little interest in meeting Wutian. What he wanted was the Heavenly Ascension Pavilion's collection.
"Please follow me," the man said.
Qi Yuan entered alone, while the others remained outside. Soon, he stood within Heavenly Ascension Pavilion itself.
His left eyebrow twitched and he smiled faintly. "Looks like something good is about to happen."
The white-robed man bid farewell and slowly vanished, leaving the vast pavilion to Qi Yuan alone.
He gazed at the countless jade slips on the first floor, satisfaction spreading across his face. "So the legend is true." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
With a single sweep of his divine sense, he detected over ten thousand cultivation manuals. Basic, Intermediate, High, Jade, and Profound-tier techniques could be found. On the first floor alone, he found five Heaven-tier techniques.
Even after killing Venerable Ye Qiong and Youqing, he had only obtained six Heaven-tier methods total. The wealth of this single floor rivaled that of an entire Yin Spirit, yet Wutian was merely a Violet Palace cultivator. And the Heavenly Ascension Pavilion had five floors in total.
"Greetings, Great Venerable Moonwatch," someone said in a hoarse voice.
Qi Yuan turned and saw an old man seated in a wheelchair. He seemed like withered wood, yet his eyes burned with sharp clarity.
Qi Yuan raised an eyebrow. "You're already a Violet Palace cultivator, and you still need a wheelchair?"
[He is an unusual cultivator. Pavilion Master of Heavenly Ascension Pavilion, Wutian.]
"I've grown used to it," the old man rasped. "I can't leave it."
Qi Yuan tilted his head. "If you get married someday, will you still sit in a wheelchair in the bridal chamber?"
The old man chuckled. "Senior is truly unique."
He showed none of the fear other Violet Palace cultivators did. They spoke as equals, which Qi Yuan didn’t mind.
"If I can't break free of these shackles, what right do I have to speak of marriage?" Wutian asked softly. "I envy you for becoming a Great Venerable. An unconventional escape, but still an escape. At least you have ten thousand years of freedom."
"Enough riddles," Qi Yuan said flatly.
Wutian stared at him. "Do you know what the Great Calamity truly is?"
Qi Yuan paused, then looked surprised. "You know?"
He had asked many Yin Spirits, but none could explain it clearly.
"Look up at the brightest star in the sky."
Qi Yuan followed his gaze.
Above them, the crimson sun glowed like a burning, luminous fruit.
"The sun?" Qi Yuan's eyes narrowed. "The Great Calamity... is the sun?"
According to what he knew, that sun represented a Yang Spirit, the strongest being in nearby worlds. Hence why its radiance overwhelmed the heavens.
"Yes and no," Wutian replied. "The Great Calamity is deeply entangled with that great sun. Because of this, even the strongest of the Canglan World can only endure humiliation, allowing themselves to be carved apart."
Qi Yuan fell silent. If Wutian spoke the truth, then the calamity was indeed nearly unsolvable.
"Three hundred thousand years ago, a peerless prodigy was born in the Canglan World. He carved his own path and ascended to become a powerful Great Venerable. When the great calamity arrived, he struck back so fiercely that he nearly suppressed it," Wutian explained, then paused. "But at that moment, the stars of the heavens ignited. Countless immortals and gods descended. And so that peerless expert fell."
