My Demon Wife In The Apocalypse: I Can Control Minds!-Chapter 87- Beyond The Limit
Chapter 87- Beyond The Limit
"Goddamit... God fucking dammit." Jack cursed as he slammed his hand into the rock. "I didn’t level up from that hit? What more do you fucking want? I killed so many of them in one hit!"
He felt so outraged at how unlucky he was that he could only curse. The hit had gotten him extremely close to leveling up, but it came a bit short. That was the worst possible outcome that Jack feared. If he didn’t level up, that means he had to deal with this horde with a broken leg and a tired body with no Aether left in his pool. That was a recipe for disaster.
But what other choice does he have? This was his bet, and it failed; now he had to deal with the consequences of that risk. Sucking a deep breath, he brandished his sword and stared up. The horde noticed his presence and attacked immediately. They recognized him and knew that he was the one who killed their queen.
"Sigh... Fine, all I need to do is kill a few more, and then I should be able to level up and get some well-needed advantage." Exhaling, he brandished his sword as he faced the creatures with a confident look on his face. So what if he can’t properly move? He didn’t even need to move; he just needed to kill more of these things.
’One more strong attack should do it.’ He mused as he charged his sword again with lightning and Myth’s Resolve. He felt a sharp headache assault his head upon using his Aether. He was entering dangerous areas with the amount of energy left that he could use to fight. If he uses more of it, then he would be at risk of fainting or getting an Aether overcharge.
*Swish*
Sending the brutal sword attack toward the horde, it devastated the front line completely, killing even more monsters. Jack would never cease to be amazed by how powerful that attack is. It was like a literal missile, except even stronger, and he can control where it goes with great accuracy.
The next round of notifications rolled down his retina as he anxiously waited for the level up. However, for one reason or another, that also wasn’t enough. Jack expected it to get him even closer, but he also anticipated it not being enough as he quickly held the sword with both hands.
’Well, I guess I will have to slice them with my own hands.’
As the horde finally reached him, the first few insects attacked. Like a flash, Jack sliced through them before they can even get close. Then, he quickly dodged another attack that came from the side and stabbed the creature in the stomach, killing it on the spot.
A moment later, his grip changed as he sliced three monsters with a single swing. Even without realizing it, Jack was honing his own style of swordsmanship with every fight. He unconsciously would discover the best way to attack that fits him.
He was an aggressive fighter, one who attacks relentlessly and doesn’t leave room for his opponent to even catch a breath. His monstrous stamina, coupled with his sharp awareness, made escaping or countering his relentless assaults almost impossible for weaker enemies. To defeat such a style of battle, Jack had to face someone who was either way faster than him or way stronger than him.
Other than that, anything weaker was like a free target. His sword moved like a whirlwind, dissecting everything without any mercy. Each kill, he waited for the notification to finally pop out.
But, after a dozen kills, then a dozen more, nothing yet. At the same time, the number of insects attacking increased exponentially. Jack started limping back while attacking everything. At some point, he started using his free arm to grab and crush the insects. It was disgusting and vile, but he had no other choice here if he wanted to survive.
He kept resisting the pressure while getting cornered. He was already extremely exhausted and in so much pain, but he still held his ground well. He wasn’t going to fall easily, not by these things.
*CRUSH* *SLICE*
His eyes moved like a flash, left and right, as he took everything in. He was so aware that he didn’t even realize that he had stopped thinking completely and started relying on his instincts to control his body. His body had reached a state where it was working like an automatic killing robot.
The numbers, however, always but courage. Jack knew that if he didn’t level up, he was going to die. Escaping was impossible, and all he could do was battle his way through.
The notifications kept rolling endlessly, kill after kill, experience points added to his status. 10, 15, 30, and all kinds of numbers. The boy completely forgot about that as he couldn’t afford to waste thoughts on the guy or anything else.
That was precisely when...
[You have leveled up!]
[You have gained +3 extra points.]
In an instant, Jack’s body changed magically. His bent leg suddenly straightened, and the bone fortified again, becoming stronger than ever before. All the scratches and injuries on his body disappeared, his Aether pool charged up to the brim again, and he felt as if he had completely recovered from all the tiring work he had done.
His clouded brain cleared up completely, and his senses returned to their peak sharpness. It took Jack by surprise, who was so engrossed in the battle that for a moment, he didn’t notice that he could finally stand on his broken foot.
’Great. Took you long enough.’
Suddenly, Jack’s speed and monstrosity increased tenfold as he started pushing the monsters back. He had underestimated how necessary his leg was, as it gave him far more room to move and attack.
With his Aether back, his strength and speed increased greatly, and the number of monsters he killed each second increased greatly. Each swing took the lives of countless insects. With his red lightning and Myth’s Resolve available again, the devastation returned.
Each hit blasted everything in its way. Jack felt invincible, completely unkillable by these things. The feeling of strength pulsating through his body was intoxicating to say the least. He never felt this powerful before in his life. He was one against an army, and yet he was not losing and was holding his ground against the endless wave of these creatures.
He was truly a one-man army in every sense of the word. Such a power was a mere fantasy a few days ago, and yet he was now doing exactly that.
’Nothing can stop me. Not these insects, not this world, not even the Great Ones. I am beyond all of them. I will carve my own path.’
As blood drawed out of his enemies, his speed increased. Jack wanted more, no, he needed more. Killing all these monsters wasn’t enough, he wanted to make sure that he kills more, gets stronger faster, become better in every aspect of battle and everything else.
He wanted to attain perfection. A status nothing in existence had achieved before. He wanted to become a flawless being, one that can’t be defeated or even rivaled. Even if it was merely a pipe dream at that moment, or perhaps the result of his boiling blood and excitement, he was now hell bent on achieving it or at least getting as close as possible from it.
He wanted to know what it feels like to truly be the strongest to ever exist. One that is above the Gods and even the Divine Records.
He assumed that the ceiling of power was the very system that gave him this power, and so to attain beyond it meant to break the limits the Divine Records had set for him. Perhaps it was completely impossible... But what could he lose trying?
’Perhaps the Divine Records is searching for a rival. One that could threaten its control over all the realms.’ He licked his lips as he moved and sliced through a dozen monsters. ’Perhaps it is bored and wants to see how far I can go?’
Jack couldn’t tell, but he was certain the answer wasn’t that far away from it.
The battle continued for a long while. Jack pushed against the monsters while the horde tried to surround him. The boy maneuvered through the pressure with great agility while keeping the same aggression and control over the area. The number of insects was dwindling rapidly and he knew that with each kill, the task was getting easier, if even by a small fraction.
However, unbeknownst to him. A bit farther away from the battlefield, something was moving. A looming shadow traversed the destroyed terrain. The shadow easily eclipsed the buildings as it marched. Its presence should’ve been easily detectable for Jack with its size. However, for one reason or another, he didn’t notice it at all as it grew closer and closer to him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Something even Jack’s worst nightmares couldn’t create.
