My Dreams Connect to Ancient Times-Chapter 104 - 91: Differential Treatment, Killing a Celestial Human Again
A towering gateway, seemingly of bronze and gold, stretched boundlessly in all directions, dim and indistinct.
A Bronze Mask. A Golden Long Robe. Shrouded in shadow, exuding Profound Mysteries. The being seated upon the great throne calmly regarded the crowd, its aura and presence utterly soul-stealing.
Though most of these prodigies were worldly and more than a few had faced life and death, their legs were now trembling uncontrollably, sweat pouring down like rain.
An irrepressible chill shot up from the base of their spines, and in an instant, it flooded their entire bodies, seeping into every pore.
Deep inside this great tomb... there was actually a living being!
An Ancient Creature that had lived through countless Years, one that had witnessed ages pass and mountains turn to dust!
The area fell into a strange, dead silence. Everyone held their breath, the only sounds being the frantic, uneven rhythm of their own heartbeats and ragged gasps.
"S-Se... Senior!"
In the end, it was Wang Zhiyao who managed to suppress her terror. She shuffled forward a few steps and offered a fearful salute.
Then, she saw the mysterious Ancient Creature lift its head. Its two terrifying pupils, like a pair of Great Sun Golden Lamps, turned to face her. Their divine light seemed to drain the soul, and its presence was overwhelming.
The back of Wang Zhiyao’s neck prickled, but she held her ground, not retreating, merely maintaining her respectful posture.
After another long moment, the Ancient Creature spoke, its voice raspy but perfectly calm:
"Those who have yet to become a Celestial Human, who wish to proceed into the depths of this tomb and obtain a world-shattering opportunity, must endure one blow from me. The living shall pass. The dead... will simply be dead."
The placid voice reverberated, bouncing off the bronze walls again and again, until it boomed like a great bell, its resonance deafening.
The prodigies exchanged glances. ’Endure one blow, and if you don’t die, you can enter?’
Some hesitated. They had no idea how terrifying this Ancient Creature was. Normally, a Celestial Human only had a lifespan of a thousand years.
An Earth Immortal, on the other hand, lived for at least ten thousand years, and at most could reach ninety thousand... 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The problem was, this mysterious Ancient Creature had likely been sitting here for tens of thousands of Years, at the very least. Its true age was probably...
’A... True Immortal??’
Many of them were caught in a dilemma. On one hand was the "world-shattering opportunity" the Ancient Creature spoke of; on the other was the very real possibility of having to withstand a terrifying blow from a True Immortal!
Once again, the area fell into a dead silence. They all looked at one another, but no one said a word.
No one dared to be the first to step forward.
"You!" Sakata Izumi’s gaze swept across the group before his finger landed viciously on Chu Han, the one with the weakest background. "You go!"
"M-Me?" the young-looking girl stammered, her voice thick with tears. She pointed a trembling finger at herself, on the verge of crying.
"Go!" Sakata Izumi’s voice was brutish, making no attempt to hide his killing intent. The threat was plain to see.
Chong Shanhu’s brow furrowed. He looked like he wanted to say something, but ultimately remained silent. Chu Han wiped away her tears, a look of grim resignation on her face, and began to shuffle forward, one tiny step at a time.
"Hurry up!"
As she passed Sakata Izumi and his group, someone shoved her. She stumbled forward a few steps, nearly falling to the ground.
Wang Zhiyao’s brow furrowed deeply, and she couldn’t stop herself from speaking out.
"Pass and receive an opportunity, fail and die—this is clearly a trial. That being the case, what gives you the right to force someone else to take it? Xiaohan, if you don’t want to do this, just leave. You can return to the surface."
Sakata Izumi’s face twitched, and just as he was about to retort, Chu Han wiped away another tear and whimpered:
"I’ll go!"
With that, she resolutely stood before the Ancient Creature and offered a trembling salute.
"Please... Please, Senior, grant me your instruction!"
Lu Xuan gazed at the girl before him, a flicker of interest stirring within him.
’This girl seems so timid, as if she’s already resigned herself to death, but...’
’...under the insight of my Form Acupoint, I can clearly see a trace of calm and tranquility deep in her heart.’
’Interesting... very interesting...’
Making a mental note, Lu Xuan slowly raised his palm, his voice booming like a great bell:
"One blow. Pass, you live. Fail, you die."
As his voice faded, a hand emerged from the Golden Long Robe’s sleeve and gently descended.
Countless pairs of eyes focused on it, staring intently at the palm, which was as fair as white jade. A dark aura coiled around it, making it seem hazy and indistinct at a glance.
Trembling like a leaf, her face streaked with tears, Chu Han faced it with grim determination.
The next second.
PAT!
The jade-like palm tapped her lightly on the head, making a crisp sound.
"Live. You have passed."
the Ancient Creature said nonchalantly.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
"Huh???"
Even Chu Han herself was stunned for a moment. She touched her head, then looked at her small hand. ’Huh, it’s not even swollen...’
She blinked a few times, then, after a long pause, she dazedly went to stand beside the mysterious Ancient Creature. Meanwhile, the other prodigies had all grown excited.
"I get it!" exclaimed one of the prodigies standing next to Sakata Izumi. "This Ancient Creature has lived for tens of thousands of Years and through the End of Dharma Era! It might have been powerful once, but it must be incredibly weak now!"
Wu Shangpin nodded slightly, a glint in his eye. He smiled and said:
"That has to be it. To think we all held back... we completely forgot about that. The End of Dharma Era caused a massive rift in history, nearly wiping out the path of cultivation entirely!"
Sakata Izumi also breathed a sigh of relief and smiled faintly.
"Well then, there’s nothing to worry about. Let’s go, one by one, and take this so-called trial. A little pat with no force behind it?"
At that, everyone began to laugh, and the atmosphere instantly relaxed.
