My Dreams Connect to Ancient Times-Chapter 119 - 98: Conclusion, The Daoist Ancestor Tempers the Youth
’Even though it’s just a residual soul, it’s still immensely powerful. If the Three Masters weren’t here, this wisp of a soul could have probably killed me with ease...’
As he had this thought, his expression gradually turned cold. He asked:
"Let me ask you, do you know about Qianlong City seven years ago? That city was also subjected to a grand sacrifice. Do you know who did it?"
The Grand Grade Residual Soul looked around blankly, not daring to lie, and just shook its head.
"Although many Grand Grade experts tacitly approve of such matters, they’re ultimately not something that can be brought out into the open. What’s more, a number of powerful individuals detest this kind of behavior, so it’s always done in secret."
After a pause, it added timidly:
"Besides, many True Immortals don’t just use grand sacrifices to perfect their own foundations. Some Grand Grade experts attempt to use them to form rituals, to help them break through to the Immortal realm..."
Lu Xuan’s expression darkened. After a long moment, he asked again:
"So, does no one do anything about it?"
"Of course there are people who get involved."
The Grand Grade Residual Soul confessed in a rush:
"The Life Tower will step in, the Death Tower will step in, and some so-called champions of justice will step in too. When a grand sacrifice is carried out, formations are usually used to conceal and seal off the area. The killing itself is left to members of the Evil Cult, so the perpetrators don’t get their own hands bloody and are even less likely to be discovered."
"Who formed the Evil Cult? And what kind of organization is it?"
The Grand Grade Residual Soul shook its head and answered bluntly:
"I do not know. There is indeed a great power behind the Evil Cult, but no one knows who they are. My coming to East Sea City this time was also because a True Immortal from the Evil Cult bewitched me."
"Who was that True Immortal?"
"He was shrouded in Chaos. I couldn’t see him clearly."
Lu Xuan’s brows knitted together tightly. He asked again:
"There aren’t that many True Immortals, are there? You can’t guess who it was?"
"How could I possibly guess?" The Grand Grade Residual Soul gave a bitter smile. "True Immortals are extremely rare, but there are still twenty or thirty of them known publicly. And that’s not even counting the hidden masters some great powers keep in reserve..."
Lu Xuan fell silent, frowning in thought for a long time. Suddenly, he turned his gaze to the Three Masters, his eyes filled with expectation.
The Lame Daoist lifted his eyelids slightly.
"What are you looking at me for? I do know everything, all of it. But what would be the point in telling you? Should I also help you sweep away all your enemies, refine their bodies and Souls into a Great Pill, and make you an Immortal in a single step?"
Lu Xuan was stunned for a moment, but then he understood and hurriedly waved his hands in refusal.
’In the end, I have to walk my own path.’
After a long moment, he sighed softly.
"Three Masters, I have no more questions."
The Grand Grade Residual Soul suddenly grew frantic, stammering,
"I stood as Governor of the Great Wall for many years! I drove back countless Demons! I was just bewitched by the Evil Cult, that’s all! I was just bewitched..."
Lu Xuan glanced at it and shook his head.
"I have no way of knowing if what you say is true. What I saw was you using the Evil Cult to slaughter innocent people, killing so many..."
As he spoke, his voice grew cold.
"Even if what you claim is true, merits are merits, and faults are faults. I will hand you over to the Three Masters. Let him be the judge of your deeds and misdeeds, of right and wrong."
After finishing his speech, Lu Xuan turned and bowed in respect.
"Three Masters."
The Lame Daoist remained silent for a long moment before chiding him with a laugh:
"You little rascal, you’re quite the cunning one!"
He had seen through Lu Xuan’s little scheme. By handing over the judgment of merits and faults to him, the young rascal could then observe and deduce for himself how much of the residual soul’s story was true and how much was false...
’Ah, well. So be it.’
The Lame Daoist blew out a gentle breath. That single breath scattered the trembling Grand Grade Residual Soul—already as fragile as a candle in the wind—sending its Soul into oblivion.
Seeing this, Lu Xuan’s expression flickered.
"Three Masters, this..."
"Don’t worry."
The Daoist spoke calmly:
"What it said was ninety percent true and ten percent false. However, lying in my presence merits the punishment of utter annihilation. I have allowed its True Spirit to remain intact. In millions of years, it may be able to re-enter Reincarnation. That, in itself, is an act of grace."
Lu Xuan let out a breath of relief, and a faint smile finally touched his lips, only to be immediately washed away by a wave of sorrow.
’So many people had died.’
"Alright." The Lame Daoist sighed, looking Lu Xuan up and down. After a moment of contemplation, he spoke again, his words measured.
"Your Physique has now reached Perfection, stepping into the ranks of the Extreme Realm... Hmm. Since I’m already here, I shall grant you one more fortuitous encounter. I will reforge your Physique and help you reach the absolute pinnacle of this state."
He paused before adding,
"Your foundation is already substantial. This reforging will be merely putting the icing on the cake, not a case of ruining things by rushing them. And it doesn’t violate any rules."
Lu Xuan froze for a second. ’Rules? What rules?’
He didn’t ask the question aloud, however, merely bowing respectfully.
"I ask for your guidance, Three Masters!"
The Lame Daoist smiled profoundly.
"In that case, you’d better be prepared. It’s going to hurt a little bit. Just a little..."
With that, he made a casual grabbing motion. The void itself trembled as Creation brought forth a massive bronze furnace. Raging flames erupted as the furnace roared, gathering the power of heaven and earth, reflecting the vast Floating World and the splendor of All Realms!
"In you go!"
The Daoist grabbed the astonished youth and tossed him into the bronze furnace. A longsword then appeared in his hand. A Cyan Lotus bloomed on the blade before the sword transformed into a massive iron hammer.
He casually strode forward, aimed at the youth writhing in agony within the furnace, and brought the hammer down with a single strike.
The raging fire searing his body and Soul was already more than Lu Xuan could bear. But with each resounding blow from the great hammer, it felt as though the impact was striking the deepest core of his being, the very depths of his mind.
’This bone-deep, heart-gouging agony... it’s even worse than the three rulers from my teacher back then!’
Lu Xuan couldn’t hold it in and let out a low, guttural roar. The Daoist, however, paid him no mind, simply bringing the hammer down again and again, mercilessly.
The youth’s Physique was like an embryonic sword in the forge. Though it had already attained a state of Perfection, it continued to improve at an agonizingly slow pace under the relentless burning and hammering.
