Chapter 61: The Invitation

Lucas nodded. "Yes. When we were kids, I thought it’ll be just you and me forever. Then Caden stepped in. He was our first friend. When he said he wanted to marry you someday, I thought it was just a child’s words. Every time I see you with him, I feel left out. But it all actually changed when I met Brie."

"How?" She asked.

Lucas smiled. "She was like your Caden. She say silly things all the time. She does everything she wanted and no one could stop her even her parents. I was jealous when you got engaged with Caden. I thought I lost a friend and a sister. But when I fell in love with Brie, I realized your feelings to each other."

"Will you apologize to Caden and Brie?" She asked.

Lucas sighed. "Yeah. I just don’t know what to do with Brie. I’m not sure if I deserve her. I always hurt her."

"You’re hopeless. Just tell her you love her. What’s so hard about that?" She ranted.

"She’s fifteen. If tell her now, do you realize what she would do?"

She wanted to laugh. Lucas was scared of Brie because the girl was not an easy opponent.

"Well, she will definitely force herself on you, and if you—" She paused. "That’s child abuse. So, maybe you should wait."

"Exactly. I’m going crazy."

She smiled and then held Lucas by his hands. "I don’t want us to fight because of Caden. I love both of you. I know you’re worried about me. But please, let Caden handle everything with his fake grandfather."

"Fine. I won’t tell our parents about his secret. I said those words out of frustration so you don’t need to worry." Lucas answered.

She shook her head. "That’s not what I mean. I already accepted the fact that I might lose Caden one day. As you said, he’s the boss of the most notorious mafia clan, danger always follows him. And if that happens, I want you to be there for me. I want us to talk like this. About Brie and about Caden. So let’s not fight okay?"

Lucas patted her head. "Caden would not disappear. So don’t think like that. And whatever happens, I will always be here for you."

"You made up." It was Caden.

She glanced at Lucas and waited for him to say his apology to Caden.

"You don’t need to apologize. I know how important it is to you. But Lucas, you need to take care of Wilson Group. I received a report that the Garcia Clan is targeting it." Caden warned Lucas.

She frowned. "I never heard of them. Do you know them?" She asked, looking at her brother.

Lucas nodded. "They have a business deal with us which I turned down a month ago because I found out they are connected with the Rossi’s."

"But isn’t the Rossi’s disbanded twelve years ago after they attack the palace? They lost their boss, Alejandro, and the members who received a pardon from the King moved to different countries." She commented.

Caden leaned his back on the wall, crossing his arms on his chest.

"Not all of them moved on." He muttered.

"Who’s the Garcia Clan? What’s their business?" She asked.

She turned to Caden when Lucas glanced at where he was.

"They’re an automotive company that started a year ago. But the company’s popularity and profit skyrocketed just after a few months of launching their first product." Caden answered.

"And do you think there’s something suspicious about them?" Lucas asked.

Caden nodded. "Based on the report I received from my men, Juliano Garcia, the CEO of Elite Motors, is financially supported by an underground organization."

"Do you think it’s the Rossi’s?" She asked.

Caden disagreed. "No. Not the Rossi’s. But the Trekker Clan."

She gulped. Hearing the Trekker Clan was once again involved with another clan, means the enemy had expanded and recruited more and more people to attack them.

"But how are they related to the Rossi’s? And you said they’re attacking Wilson Group, in what what way?" She frowned. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Juliano’s mom is Alejandro Rossi’s sister. She was sold by her father to the Garcia’s six years before the attack on the palace. So she had no idea and had no involvement in what happened. But still, we can’t set her aside." Caden then stared at Lucas.

He wanted Lucas to answer about the Garcia’s move against the Wilson Group.

"The business was not related to Elite Cars. They invited us to an antique exhibit. The offer was to simple. They would like us to buy one of their precious collections and if the others did the same, all proceedings would go to charity." Lucas started.

"Why didn’t you approve it? We never reject an invitation if it’s for charity." She asked.

"I was going to accept it, but there was one mistake in that invitation," Lucas said.

Although she badly wanted to know, she didn’t ask and just waited for Lucas to answer.

"The black diamond. It’s their precious piece."

Her eyes widened. "The black diamond was stolen a year ago."

"It was your great-grandmother’s necklace, right?" Caden asked.

She nodded. "Yes. It was quietly donated to Northbay Museum, but before they could put it on display, it was stolen. Mom didn’t want to make it public because it would ruin Wilson Group’s reputation."

"I did my research and found out about Alejandro’s sister. So, I rejected them. But that wasn’t the only reason. Everyone knows the black diamond belongs to our family, why would they put it on the invitation on purpose?" Lucas whined.

"There’s only one way to find out." Caden smirked.

Lucas shook his head. "I already rejected them. It would be too obvious if I contact them and accept the invitation."

Caden chuckled. Then took something from his pocket.

"You’re not the only one who got an invitation."

Lucas wasn’t surprised. He already expected Caden would also get an invitation.

"They really wanted us to come."Lucas commented.

Caden nodded. "Yes. It’s too obvious. They actually put my name and Alira’s. Then, yours and Brie."
