My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 73: The Announcement
She wanted to stay in bed, but she already missed school for days, so she forced herself to take a bath.
A throbbing pain in her head made her dizzy. She had a dream of Caden visiting her last night and she felt him kiss her on the lips. But she knew it was just her hopeful wish.
"Alira, how are you? We missed you!" Samantha, and the others greeted her.
She smiled slightly at them. "I’m fine."
Lea frowned. "You don’t look okay. Are you sick?"
She nodded. "I’m just having a terrible headache."
Her friends glanced at each other and looked around the room.
"Where’s the prince?" Cassy asked.
She didn’t answer. Then they heard chatter from their classmates and other students who were passing by their classroom would look at her, whispering to each other.
Her heart pounded, and she felt like her body was trembling. She saw Samantha was looking at her phone and then glanced at her. She looked at everyone and they were all holding their phones.
"Alira?" Samantha called.
She snatched the phone to see what everyone was looking at.
"Is that true? They canceled your engagement? What happened? Did you fight with the prince?" Lea continuously asked.
She bit her lip to stop herself from crying. How could they announce it so soon? She hasn’t had a proper conversation with Caden and didn’t expect he could just make an announcement that the wedding was off.
With gritted teeth, she dashed out of the classroom. On her way to her residence, she bumped into Lucas and his classmates.
"Alira!"
She jumped into her brother’s arms and cried. Lucas would not let anyone see her so distressed and his friends knew how protective he was to Alira, so they wouldn’t dare to tell anyone what they saw.
Lucas brought her to Queens. Caden was stepping out of the mansion when they arrived.
"You’re really leaving." Lucas said.
Caden nodded. "I don’t have any reason to stay here."
"And school? Did you drop out?" Lucas asked.
"I tried. But since we’re already in the last quarter, they asked me to finish the year. So I guess I’ll stay in school for a while. We only got three months left anyway, so I think that’s fine." Caden answered in a bitter tone.
Lucas nodded. "Then I think this is it, huh?"
Caden hissed and walked toward the car. As she stared at him getting further away, she didn’t realize she grabbed his shirt.
Caden frowned, but didn’t turn to look at her.
"C–Caden, I–I"
"Don’t. I don’t want to hear anything from you. If you still have doubts about our relationship and could not fully accept me, then just let go. I will not force you anymore."
She couldn’t answer him. Her heart was in pain, and she felt layers of unsettling emotion. Lucas gently touched her hand and with his eyes, persuading her to let go. She let her hands fall to her side. Her face writhed as though she were struggling not to cry when Caden stepped inside the car.
Her heart was flooded with sadness and she cried in exasperation when the car disappeared into her eyes. Lucas held her tight. He couldn’t blame Caden for leaving because Alira still had doubts about her feelings.
"Will she be alright?" Brie asked when he got out of his sister’s bedroom.
He nodded. "She will. She just has to figure out what she really wants."
"It’s hard for her because she grew up being protected and had no idea of what it’s like to be part of the mafia. She always dreamed of her life inside the palace as a princess with Caden. Then suddenly she also became the future wife of the Mafia Boss." Brie commented.
"How about you? If I became someone you never expected, will you change your mind? Will you leave me?" Lucas asked, staring into Brie’s eyes.
Brie smiled and shook her head. "Never. As I said, I will love you until my last breath. Nothing could change that."
His heart skipped a beat, and he badly wanted to cross the space between them, but still managed to control himself.
"Whatever." He said then walked into his bedroom.
He didn’t close the door and turned to Brie. "Are you coming or not? Get inside before I change my mind."
Brie smiled and excitedly stepped inside Lucas’ bedroom.
Alira was standing on the other side of her bedroom door and heard what Brie said. Lucas was so lucky to have someone like Brie. Why couldn’t she be like her? Brie was younger than her, but the girl’s heart never falters. Not even once.
That night, she couldn’t sleep and let her mind drift as she thought about everything. But morning came, she still had no firm answer.
"You can stay home for now. You don’t need to come to school." Brie suggested.
"I’m fine. I need some distraction anyway." She said.
That was what she thought. In school, rumors about their break up spread all around the school. She could hear some chatters as they passed by the hallway.
"Maybe she’s too perfect, and the prince got bored." Someone from the group of girls said.
They were in the cafeteria for a half an hour break and the students started swarming inside to take their snacks.
"Ignore them." Lea said.
Silence surrounded the cafeteria when Caden walked in, followed by two girls.
"What the hell? The announcement was just yesterday, and now girls were already following him. How shameless!" Samantha gritted her teeth.
"Hey, that’s fine. Don’t worry about me." She said. But her heart was being shattered into a thousand pieces.
She already expected it. Caden was a blonde-haired prince. And everyone would love staring at his silver eyes because you could see your reflection in them. He’s tall, hot and gorgeous. And if girls would see his tattoos, they would definitely drool over him more.
"Alira!" Samantha almost yelled her name.
"What?" She frowned.
Samantha pointed at the pasta on her plate and was surprised to see that it was cut into pieces. She heard her friends sigh and stared at her.
"If you will get mad at those girls, why would you let go of him?" Lea pouted.
