My Fiancé's Scandals Never End, So I Married His Uncle Instead-Chapter 103: A Moment of Impulse
The scene was a chaotic and bizarre mess.
Second Young Master Sutton was howling on the floor, his entire shoulder bleeding from embedded glass shards. His two assistants, their faces pale, had clearly not expected such a sudden turn of events; they crouched down, trying to shield him. Fragments of glass mixed with spilled liquor spread across the ground. The girl’s delicate crystal high heels stood in the gruesome, sticky mess. Her eyes were red as she nestled like a little white rabbit in the arms of a tall, handsome man.
Kian Sterling held Celia Sterling loosely with one arm, his sharp gaze falling on the remnants of the bottle. It was made of thick glass. To shatter it would have taken considerable force.
But he was notoriously protective of his own. He patted Celia Sterling’s head reassuringly. "Tell me," he said, "how did he bully you?"
"It’s the middle of the night, and he insisted on taking me out to fool around." Celia Sterling clutched Kian Sterling’s shirt. "A man and a woman, alone outside this late... he was trying to be a creep."
"A true scoundrel," Kian Sterling nodded.
Glancing at the wailing Second Young Master Sutton, he gave a cool order to the bodyguards behind him. "Take him to the hospital."
"K-Kian Sterling, I... I’m from the Sutton Family..." Second Young Master Sutton’s teeth chattered from the pain.
Kian Sterling cut him off coldly. "I don’t know any second son of the Sutton Family. I’ll cover the medical fees, but this business of you harassing my sister won’t be settled so easily. I will pay a personal visit later to settle this account."
The color drained from Second Young Master Sutton’s face, shifting between ashen and deathly pale, as he was escorted to the hospital by his assistants and Kian Sterling’s bodyguards.
In the hallway, the hotel manager arranged for the scene to be cleaned, not daring to utter a single word the entire time.
Kian Sterling lowered his head, silently watching the girl’s head buried in his chest for a long moment. He slowly pushed her away, his voice low.
"You’re about to be married, yet you still run into your brother’s arms at the drop of a hat. What would people think?"
His fingers were cool to the touch. Celia Sterling straightened up as he pushed, letting out a small, guilty cough.
Kian Sterling signaled for a bodyguard to swipe the key card and open the door. He shot her a glance. "Don’t just stand in the hallway. Let’s talk inside."
Inside the presidential suite.
Kian Sterling sat on the sofa, his stunningly handsome face now covered in a layer of frost. "Alright, talk. Why did you hit him?"
Growing up, Kian Sterling had cleaned up plenty of her messes. With Second Young Master Sutton gone, Celia Sterling answered honestly, "I just didn’t like the look of him. But I avoided any vital spots. I didn’t actually mean to maim him."
Kian Sterling frowned slightly. "My dear Cece, since when did you learn to bully people with your status just because you don’t like how they look?"
Celia Sterling lowered her head and admitted her fault. "I was wrong, Kade."
’In truth, she wasn’t entirely sure where that impulse had come from.’
’She had just come from Stillwater Cemetery. She was feeling an indescribable sense of regret and emptiness for Sylvia Lowell, that master of the Perfumery Guild whose career was as brilliant as it was brief. Then, in the blink of an eye, she’d run into the very culprit responsible for the woman’s tragic end. That, combined with an inexplicable revulsion toward his face, had made her temper flare.’
Beneath her delicate and soft exterior, Celia Sterling, the young lady of the Capital Circle, was fierce to the bone. And when it came to smashing bottles, she was an experienced repeat offender.
’She’d simply used what was on hand, grabbing the bottle and acting on a strange impulse.’
’It had felt good, alright.’
’But the guilt and fear that followed were real, too.’
At her side, Adeline Lowell gave Celia Sterling a gentle look and spoke up. "It was my fault. I mentioned that Sutton the Second is the illegitimate son of my older sister’s ex-husband and their nanny. Miss Sterling was likely feeling indignant on my sister’s behalf and acted on impulse. The Ninth Master shouldn’t blame her for this. If the Sutton Family causes trouble later, I will handle it."
Celia Sterling quickly took the blame. "I made this mess. I’m willing to bear any consequences."
Kian Sterling fell silent, deep in thought.
Celia Sterling couldn’t read his expression. "Kade, I really wasn’t expecting you to clean this up for me. Just punish me."
After a long silence.
Kian Sterling let out a cold scoff. "If it were anyone else, I would certainly punish you. But since it’s the Suttons... what’s done is done."
Celia Sterling hadn’t expected Kian Sterling to let her off so easily this time.
Over the years, she’d had her occasional wild moments. Even when Kian Sterling cleaned up after her, a scolding was unavoidable. This was the first time he had been so calm about it.
"Kade..." Celia Sterling cautiously poured Kian Sterling a cup of tea.
Kian Sterling allowed her, slowly toying with the delicate, mostly full teacup. He deliberately changed the subject, leaving her on the sidelines as he turned to chat casually with Adeline Lowell about business matters.
Celia Sterling sat beside him uneasily, knowing Kian Sterling was intentionally trying to temper her patience. She stayed quiet and well-behaved, continuously refilling their teacups.
More than half an hour later, a bodyguard at the door sent a message.
Kian Sterling glanced at his phone and finally addressed her again. "Have a nice chat with President Lowell. I’m stepping out for a bit."
She didn’t need him to say it. Celia Sterling knew he was going to personally handle the matter with Second Young Master Sutton. She felt a pang of guilt. "I’m sorry for causing you trouble, Kade."
"It’s hardly trouble." Kian Sterling’s well-defined fingers loosened his collar button, his voice cold and domineering. "Those two illegitimate brats from the Sutton Family have been making a scene in front of me for a while now. It’s past time they were dealt with." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
He walked out the door.
Outside, a bodyguard reported the situation at the hospital in a low voice. "A fractured clavicle. The doctor reset it, but it’ll take a month to heal. He also has multiple puncture wounds on his shoulder, which have been treated and dressed. He’s on his way back to the Sutton Family estate now."
Kian Sterling unhurriedly rolled up his sleeves, his voice languid yet chilling. "To the Suttons’."
Celia Sterling had no idea what Kian Sterling did in that one short night.
He didn’t return all night, apparently extremely busy.
He only returned to the hotel the next morning, still in the same clothes he’d left in. The clothes were neat, his expression calm; he didn’t look like he had been in a fight. Only his face showed a trace of fatigue, as if he hadn’t slept all night.
"I’m going to get some sleep," he said, pressing the bridge of his nose and speaking to her gently. "I’ll take you to the Blackwater Creek villa later. We’ll head back to Metropia directly from there this afternoon."
’The Blackwater Creek villa?’
’That was Kian Sterling’s villa here in Port Sovereign. He rarely stayed there. She had no idea why they were suddenly going.’
After a moment of surprise, Celia Sterling began to pack the things she needed to take back to Metropia.
A video call from Silas Norwood came in while she was stuffing small souvenirs for people back home into her suitcase. She casually answered the call.
"Silas."
Silas Norwood was still in his office. He had been back for a few days and had mostly dealt with the mess at his corporation. Now that he had some free time, he had started to check on his girlfriend’s return trip.
"When are you coming back? I’ll come pick you up."
"We’re heading back this afternoon. My brother and I are going straight to Sterling Villa, so you don’t need to come get me, Silas." Celia Sterling panned the camera over her open suitcase. "I’m already packing."
"What’s Kian Sterling doing?"
Silas Norwood thought about the news he’d heard from Theo Chambers. Last night, something had set Kian Sterling off. He had severed two major supply chains for a company under the control of Port Sovereign’s Second Young Master Sutton. A dozen of the Sutton Family’s board members had all run to the Port Sovereign Commerce Arbitration Commission to raise hell, and the news had even reached Metropia.
"My brother’s catching up on sleep."
Celia Sterling hesitated for a moment, then chose to be honest with Silas Norwood. "Silas... I got into a fight last night."
