My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 125: I’m Full
The change in him startled Nina Wynn.
She tried to struggle, but she couldn’t push him away.
"Don’t... it still hurts a little..."
Caleb Rhodes bit her lip, his hand slipping inside her shirt. "It won’t hurt," he murmured. "It’ll be even better than this afternoon..."
Gentle, yet forceful and firm, he claimed her.
Nina Wynn couldn’t escape; he made her sway like a small boat.
She lost track of time. By the time he finally let her go, the little bit of strength she’d managed to scrape together was gone once more.
After cleaning her up and dressing her again, Caleb Rhodes glanced at his watch. It was almost seven o’clock.
He stroked her weary face and murmured, "I’ll take you back to the hotel now. In a little while, I’ll have something sent to your room. Decide what you want to eat and tell me on the way."
Nina Wynn squeezed his hand and whispered, "Where are you going?"
Caleb Rhodes savored her dependence on him, and his voice softened. "I have a dinner party tonight on the top floor of the hotel. Does Nina want to come?"
Nina Wynn nodded gently. "I don’t want to be at the hotel by myself. I’m a little scared."
In truth, after what had happened that morning, Caleb Rhodes wasn’t comfortable leaving her in the room alone either.
Although Zyler Rhodes would be at the dinner, Caleb knew the man wouldn’t dare approach Nina Wynn right under his nose.
It was a short drive to the hotel, only about ten minutes. The car pulled up in front of a hotel with a classic, traditional Chinese design.
The moment he stepped out of the car, someone hurried over with a smile. "I never imagined President Rhodes would choose our hotel for his stay! It’s truly an honor."
Caleb Rhodes reverted to his usual cold, imposing, and regal demeanor, as if nothing could faze him and everything was perfectly under his control.
’It was at times like these that Nina Wynn would wonder if Caleb Rhodes had a split personality.’
’But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that.’
She followed Caleb Rhodes to the top floor of the hotel.
Everyone at the dinner party had already arrived; they were just waiting for the most important guest.
When Caleb Rhodes arrived, he naturally became the center of attention, and the once-quiet room instantly burst into life.
As everyone’s attention fell on Caleb Rhodes, they also noticed the young girl he had brought with him.
Nearly everyone knew about the marriage alliance between Caleb Rhodes and the Lowell Family. So when this delicate, high-school-aged girl appeared by his side, they all began to speculate if she was another young heiress from some prominent family, just tagging along with him in Aethelburg for a few days of fun.
But it wasn’t long before everyone realized something was off about the picture.
Caleb Rhodes treated this young girl differently. In fact, he was positively doting on her.
He frequently served her food, and he even had someone bring up a glass of warm, fresh milk, going so far as to specify the brand.
Everyone was stealing glances at the young girl, their curiosity piqued.
But the girl was remarkably quiet. She kept her head down and focused on eating the entire time, only tugging on Caleb Rhodes’s sleeve when she couldn’t reach a particular dish. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Even so, because of his connection to the Lowell Family, no one suspected anything improper between The Valorian Crown Prince and the young girl.
As the evening wore on and people loosened up, someone decided to inquire about the young girl’s identity.
Of course, no one dared to ask Caleb Rhodes directly. Instead, someone approached Zyler Rhodes.
Zyler Rhodes shot the man a glare. "What do you think you’re doing?"
The man gave a placating smile. "My son is in college and hasn’t found a suitable partner yet. This young lady seems quite nice. I was just wondering which family she might be from?"
Zyler Rhodes was already on edge because Nina Wynn hadn’t replied to his texts.
Now, even though he could see Nina, she was sitting right next to Caleb Rhodes, and he didn’t even have a chance to go over and speak to her, which only made him more irritated.
When he heard this man had designs on Nina Wynn, the young master’s temper flared. He glared and snapped, "She’s my sister, a member of the Rhodes Family. What university is your son at that makes him so damn special he thinks he has a shot with my sister?"
The man was, after all, a person of some standing in Aethelburg. Scolded so fiercely by Zyler Rhodes, he looked rather embarrassed. "Isn’t Mr. Rhodes’s sister Crystal Rhodes? This must be a relative of the Rhodes Family, then?"
Zyler Rhodes was already in a foul mood. Hearing the man’s question, he retorted, "She isn’t right now, but she will be. Chief Zimmerman, there’s no need to ask any more questions. She’s out of your league."
The implication was obvious: Nina Wynn’s status was extraordinary. The man asked no more questions and retreated in embarrassment.
While Zyler Rhodes was fuming, Nina Wynn was enjoying her meal.
She’d barely eaten at lunch and had just gone through quite an ordeal. Now she was ravenous and eating a bit too quickly.
Seeing her good appetite and how she’d eaten nearly everything he served her, Caleb Rhodes’s gaze softened. He reached under the table and took her soft hand in his. His voice remained nonchalant. "Slow down. There’s more food coming."
Nina Wynn jumped, hastily pulling her hand back. Her face flushed slightly as she whispered, her voice barely audible, "Uncle, there are too many people here."
Caleb Rhodes’s brow twitched almost imperceptibly, and his tone grew cold. "So what if they see? Are you that afraid of people finding out? You have no ties to the Rhodes Family anymore."
He had never intended to hide their relationship. Once Nina Wynn’s health improved, he was determined to make it public.
The wedding ceremony could wait, but as for registering the marriage, Nina Wynn was already twenty. That could be put on the agenda.
By now, the wine had been flowing and the atmosphere at the table was jovial.
Someone piped up with a laugh, "Third Lord Master, when is the wedding with Miss Lowell? I heard the Lowell Family is already preparing her dowry."
Another person immediately chimed in, "That’s right! I saw Miss Lowell just the other day. A true lady from a prestigious family, so refined. She and the Third Lord Master are a perfect match."
"You can say that again. The Third Lord Master and Miss Lowell grew up together. Their families have been friends for generations, and they’re a perfect match in terms of status. It’s a bond unlike any other."
"I heard that the Third Lord Master spent the last few years abroad with Miss Lowell. Third Lord Master, you didn’t happen to get married overseas, did you?"
At these words, the color drained from Nina Wynn’s face.
She clutched the fabric of her dress and said in a small voice, "Uncle, I’m full. I’d like to go back to my room and rest."
Caleb Rhodes’s expression darkened. Just as he was about to speak, someone else chimed in playfully, "Third Lord Master, when you and Miss Lowell get married, you have to remember to invite us! We have our wedding gifts ready and waiting."
"That’s right! We’re just waiting for the wedding invitation!"
"Third Lord Master, since you’re staying here for a while, why not set up a little home? Miss Lowell could come and stay for a bit. This place may not be Elysian City, but the winter scenery is lovely."
"How tactless! You should be calling her Mrs. Rhodes, not Miss Lowell!"
Hearing this, Nina Wynn couldn’t bear it any longer. She stood up and said quietly, "Uncle, I really don’t feel well. I’m going to go downstairs now."
Without waiting for a reply or caring if anyone was watching, she turned and walked out.
Her voice was quiet, and by that point, many of the guests were tipsy, so her departure went largely unnoticed.
Caleb Rhodes’s expression, however, had changed completely. He shot a cold glare at the men who had just spoken, his voice dangerously low. "You all talk far too much. Don’t bother bidding on the project."
With that, he also stood up and left.
When he stepped out of the private dining room, he saw Nina Wynn already standing at the elevators.
"Nina!"
He called out to her retreating back, his voice low.
Nina Wynn faltered for a second but didn’t turn around. She quickly stepped into the elevator.
Caleb Rhodes’s eyes darkened. He strode forward and wrapped his arms around Nina Wynn from behind.
