Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Likes Them Small

A flash of panic crossed Nina Wynn’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by clarity. She looked at him, a little bewildered. "I don’t know."

As she spoke, she grabbed his wrist again. "Where’s my cat?"

Finn Prescott held her small head, his expression serious. "Little thing, tell me, what exactly is your relationship with Caleb Rhodes? Why is he so concerned about you?"

Nina Wynn looked as if she didn’t understand what he was saying. Gazing at him in confusion, she said, "He’s my uncle."

Finn Prescott stared at her, his tone taking on a sharp edge. "But you’re not related by blood. For him to be this controlling of you, isn’t that going too far?"

Nina Wynn lowered her gaze and said softly, "What are you trying to say?"

Finn Prescott’s thin lips pressed into a hard line. A frigid glint flashed in his eyes as his large hand gripped her chin, his voice dropping low. "I don’t like liars. Don’t lie to my face!"

Nina Wynn said softly, "What did I lie about? You’re nobody to me, so why would I lie to you?"

She paused for a moment before continuing, "You said it yourself, we’re not related by blood. So what if there is something between us? It would just be an ordinary relationship between a man and a woman."

Finn Prescott stared at her and said in a low voice, "I don’t care what your relationship is, but let me give you a word of warning. If you’re seriously thinking about being with him, you’d better give up that idea right now. For families like theirs, profit always comes first."

His rough fingers brushed against her delicate cheek, his voice dropping to a whisper. "They only ever take the path of strategic marriages. Caleb Rhodes is the Rhodes Family’s biggest golden goose. Even if he doesn’t marry Rosalind Lowell, he’ll marry the daughter of some other family of similar standing. That’s the only way they can maximize their profits."

"Also, do you have any idea how badly the Lowell Family wants to lock down Caleb Rhodes? Rosalind Lowell represents the entire Lowell Family. Even though the Lowells aren’t as prominent as they used to be, they’re still a major family with deep roots."

His eyes glinted as he stared at Nina Wynn’s face and continued, "Caleb Rhodes has been causing a huge stir in Aethelburg these past few days. I heard it was over a woman. I hope it’s not you. Because if it is, the Rhodes Family won’t tolerate you, and they won’t even need the Lowell Family to make a move. Do you understand?"

Nina Wynn looked up at him. "Young Prescott, why are you telling me all this? Is it because you’re about to marry Crystal Rhodes? Are you afraid I’ll ruin the Rhodes Family’s plans and prevent you from getting the biggest benefit?"

Finn Prescott frowned, released Nina Wynn, and turned his face away. His tone was somewhat detached. "I’m not like him. No one can control who I marry!"

Nina Wynn said softly, "Yes, you’re not like them. So, can Young Prescott take me to see my cat now?"

Finn Prescott’s handsome brows knitted together. He draped his jacket over her shoulders again. "Keep it on."

Soon, Nina Wynn followed Finn Prescott into a small operating room.

Roy was lying in an incubator, a thin needle inserted into his body, receiving an IV drip.

When he saw Nina Wynn, he seemed to want to get up but lacked the strength. His little paw twitched once before falling limp again.

Nina Wynn’s heart ached, and her eyes began to well up. She fought back tears, and just as she was about to reach out and touch Roy, a man who had just entered stopped her.

"Don’t touch him! Your hands aren’t clean, and he’s too weak!"

The man quickly stepped forward and added something to the IV bag before saying, "He should be out of the woods after tonight. Just be patient."

As he spoke, he looked up at Nina Wynn, a flash of astonishment in his eyes.

"I was wondering who could get our Master Prescott to come out in the middle of the night to treat a cat. Turns out it’s for such a tasty little kitten!"

He clicked his tongue and punched Finn Prescott’s shoulder. "Not into the tall, slim-waisted, busty types anymore? You like them small now?"

Finn Prescott shot him a glare and gritted his teeth. "Cut the fucking crap!"

The man laughed heartily. "A little late to be playing innocent now, don’t you think?"

Finn Prescott pushed him away and pulled Nina Wynn towards the exit. "Let’s go. With him here, the cat won’t die. I’ll take you to get something to eat."

He was tall with long legs and walked quickly. Nina Wynn was dragged along and had to break into a trot to keep up.

They quickly reached his car. Without waiting for her agreement, he pulled open the passenger door and shoved Nina Wynn inside. "Let’s eat!"

By now, it was the early hours of the morning. Although Plainsgate wasn’t small, many restaurants were already closed. They finally managed to find a place in a 24-hour shopping mall.

Finn Prescott ordered a huge pile of food.

Worried about Roy, Nina Wynn had no appetite. She only took a couple of bites before stopping.

Finn Prescott was not pleased. He lit a cigarette and watched her through narrowed eyes. "Not even going to give me this much face? I spent my birthday yesterday helping you get your damn cat treated. Is it that hard to have a meal with me now?"

Nina Wynn was a little surprised. "Yesterday was your birthday?"

Finn Prescott looked at her with a half-smile. "What do you think? I ditched a room full of people and ran from Aethelburg to Plainsgate to get your cat treated, and you won’t even have a proper meal with me. Isn’t that a bit much?"

Nina Wynn bit her lip, stood up, and said softly, "Wait for me a moment."

She remembered there was a cake shop near the mall entrance, but at this hour, they might not have any cakes left to sell.

The cake shop was still open. When she asked, she found out they did have one cake left—one that a customer had returned. The only problem was that it was pink, and the little sugar figure on top was a little princess.

At this hour, it was impossible to have a new one made right away.

Nina Wynn thought for a moment, then went to a nearby lighter counter and bought a lighter. The starting price of 3,999 made her head spin, but when she thought about Roy surviving, she gritted her teeth and paid.

Then she asked the cake shop staff to remove the little princess sugar figure, wrap the lighter, and place it on top.

When she returned to the restaurant, Finn Prescott was still smoking lazily.

She placed the cake on the table and said softly, "This was all they had. Sorry. But it’s better than nothing."

Finn Prescott glanced at the pink frosting and raised an eyebrow. "Pink?"

He then picked up the wrapped lighter from the top and said languidly, "A lighter?"

He clicked his tongue, twirling the silver lighter in his hand. "I’ve never received such a cheap gift before," he said, dissatisfied.

Nina Wynn’s expression soured. She reached out to snatch it back. "That’s the most expensive thing I could afford! If you don’t want it, fine! Give it back!"

Finn Prescott’s hand froze, and he gripped the lighter tightly. "You want to take back something you gave me? Believe it or not, I’ll go throw out that damn cat of yours!"

Nina Wynn was genuinely afraid he would throw her cat out, so she had no choice but to sit back down.

The meal lasted for an hour. Finn Prescott seemed to really like the lighter, playing with it in his hands for a long time.

「Meanwhile, in Aethelburg.」

Warner Zimmerman looked at the news on his phone and said expressionlessly, "There was a car accident just now on Westfolk Road. A young woman was hit by a car. She was holding a cat in her arms."

Caleb Rhodes snapped his head up, his eyes shot with red. "What did you say?"
