My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 157: Out with the Old, In with the New
Warner Zimmerman also glanced at the woman, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly. He whispered to Nina Wynn, "Miss Wynn, the Third Lord Master doesn’t like her. Don’t talk to her, or he’ll see and punish you again."
Nina Wynn hummed softly in agreement and said in a low voice, "I don’t know her. Caleb told me to wait for him here. You can rest assured, I won’t speak to her."
"You should go now. My back is getting cold."
Only then did Warner Zimmerman head downstairs.
The moment Warner Zimmerman was gone, the woman sat down on the sofa, picked up a pack of cigarettes from the coffee table, and lit one for herself. With a smirk, she said, "Does Caleb Rhodes keep you on such a short leash? It seems he really likes you."
"To turn your back on this life of wealth and luxury, only to insist on doing such strange things... What kind of deep-seated hatred do you really have for the Rhodes Family?"
Nina Wynn gazed outside without turning around, her voice distant. "I’ve already sent you what you wanted. You shouldn’t have come today. I don’t want Caleb Rhodes to suspect me."
As she spoke, she slowly turned to face Vivian Landon. "You’re a huge star—you’re too conspicuous. Caleb Rhodes is bound to find out that we met."
Vivian Landon blew a smoke ring and smiled. "What are you so afraid of? I’m just taking a little something. To him, it’s nothing more than a drop in the bucket. He won’t find out."
Nina Wynn stared at her, saying nothing.
Vivian Landon continued, "Should we release Chloe Joyce’s video on the major online platforms?"
Nina Wynn shook her head. "That’s not necessary. The Joyce Family is ruined beyond recovery. I don’t have to lift a finger; plenty of people will be lining up to kick her while she’s down. You just need to keep fanning the flames of the Ivy Lawson affair."
Vivian Landon smiled, looking Nina Wynn up and down again, her tone laced with regret. "You really don’t want to be a star? With your assets, I could guarantee you’d be a massive success!"
Nina Wynn didn’t answer her.
Vivian Landon added, "Still, I never would have guessed. You look so sweet and innocent, yet you’re completely ruthless in your actions. Ivy Lawson has already been driven to attempt suicide several times because of this. If Caleb Rhodes knew your true nature, would he still dote on you so much?"
Her words pierced Nina Wynn’s heart like a thorn. A sharp pain lanced through her chest, and she lowered her gaze, her voice turning cold. "You don’t need to worry about that. Just stick to your part of our deal."
She glanced at her phone. "If there’s nothing else, you should leave. Caleb might be back soon. If anything comes up, contact me by phone."
Vivian Landon handed Nina Wynn a small, button-sized device. "Put this in Caleb Rhodes’s study. Make sure it’s facing his computer."
Nina Wynn didn’t reach for it. "We agreed I would only photograph documents, not anything on his computer."
Vivian Landon looked at her and smirked. "And you claim you don’t like him? Protecting him like this... when it’s time to leave, will you really have the heart to be so cruel?"
Nina Wynn’s tone was sharp. "That’s none of your business!"
Vivian Landon reached out and stroked her cheek, laughing. "A woman who actually wants to leave Caleb Rhodes... now I’ve seen everything. I wonder how he’ll feel when he finds out about this! The look on his face will be absolutely priceless. I’m so looking forward to it!"
As she spoke, her gaze fell on the necklace around Nina Wynn’s neck. She froze for a second, then let out a soft laugh. "Selene’s Serenity. An eighty-million-dollar piece. So he bought it at the auction for you. He’s certainly generous. I couldn’t even manage to win the bid!"
Nina Wynn took a step back, avoiding her hand. "Please leave," she said in a low voice. "I won’t leak anything from his computer."
Vivian Landon sighed, stepped forward, and pressed the device into Nina Wynn’s hand, patting it gently. "Who is Hugh Chapman to you?"
Nina Wynn’s head snapped up. "Who’s Hugh Chapman?"
Vivian Landon smiled, satisfied by her reaction. "You really don’t know him?"
Nina Wynn stared at her, her voice hard. "What are you trying to do?"
Vivian Landon smiled. "The kid is a new talent at my company. He wants to be a star, and he’s got decent looks and potential, but he’s too desperate for instant success. He’s run into some trouble recently that’s proving difficult to handle. I thought you might know him, and I was considering helping him out."
She looked into Nina Wynn’s eyes and continued, "But since you say you don’t know him, then never mind."
Nina Wynn clutched the device in her hand, her pretty lips pressed into a tight line as she remained silent.
Vivian Landon raised an eyebrow and patted her shoulder. "If you’re not willing, we can stick to the original plan—just photograph some non-critical documents. If you change your mind, contact me."
She glanced outside and chuckled. "I’m really leaving this time. Caleb Rhodes is back."
After a brief pause, she added, "But, I should warn you about one thing: be careful of Rosalind Lowell. You’re no match for her scheming. Even I’ve suffered at her hands before. She would do anything for Caleb Rhodes, no matter how crazy. You’d best watch out. That woman is insane."
With that said, she tossed her hair and walked out.
Just as she reached the door, she came face-to-face with Caleb Rhodes.
Vivian Landon feigned surprise and moved to link her arm with Caleb Rhodes’s, purring, "Third Lord Master! To run into you here, it must be my lucky day!"
Caleb Rhodes sidestepped her hand, his brow knitting as his voice dropped, cold and heavy. "Scram."
The single word was laced with profound disgust and an oppressive aura.
Vivian Landon froze for a second, then shot a meaningful glance back at Nina Wynn before smiling. "On to the new and forgetting the old, are we? How heartless of you, President Rhodes."
Caleb Rhodes didn’t spare her another glance, walking straight toward Nina Wynn.
Before he reached her, Nina Wynn suddenly closed the distance, wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her face against his chest. "Where did you go?" she whispered.
Caleb Rhodes loved seeing her like this—so pliant and obedient. His own mood softened before he asked, "What nonsense did that Vivian Landon spout to you?"
Nina Wynn clutched his shirt, her voice tinged with grievance. "She’s your ex-girlfriend."
’That Vivian Landon must have a death wish! How dare she try to drive a wedge between me and my little thing!’
He narrowed his eyes, then lifted Nina Wynn and set her on a stool. He gently smoothed her hair before saying in a low, serious voice, "She’s merely the jewelry spokesperson my company hired. We’ve attended some events together on occasion, but she is not, and has never been, my girlfriend."
Nina Wynn’s soft, pale hands twisted together anxiously. "But last time, the two of you... the news said..." she murmured.
Caleb Rhodes’s expression softened. The slightly rough pad of his thumb traced a slow path across her porcelain-smooth cheek. His voice grew husky. "Are you jealous?"
Nina Wynn lowered her gaze and said nothing.
Caleb Rhodes lifted her chin, his own lips brushing against her soft ones. "Don’t pay any attention to that gossip. You only need to believe what I say."
His gaze darkened. "You are *only* allowed to believe me."
With that, he lowered his head and captured her lips.
