Chapter 161: Chapter 161: I Can’t Wait Anymore

Nina Wynn’s head snapped up, her gaze meeting a pair of clear, bright eyes.

The young man at the door was as refreshing as a clear sky after rain. He wore a light gray turtleneck and a cream-colored jacket, looking handsome and slender—as perfect as a movie star on a poster, completely out of place amidst the exceptionally plain decor.

The moment their eyes met, Nina saw his were filled with shock and disbelief.

He looked like he wanted to rush over but forced himself to hold back, his gaze quickly shifting to Caleb Rhodes.

At the same time, Nina noticed the person next to the young man.

A pretty young woman, dressed thinly despite the dead of winter. She wore only a light trench coat over a crop top, and her heavy makeup couldn’t hide her youthful face.

Nina averted her gaze and glanced outside, spotting the car they had just gotten out of.

A fiery red Ferrari was casually parked by the entrance, its license plate number exceptionally distinctive.

Nina quickly looked away and said to the waiter taking their order, "Steamed sea bass, mouth-watering chicken..."

She rattled off a string of dishes, oblivious to the young man’s obsessive and helpless stare.

She only heard the young woman call out to him, "Hugh, that spot is taken. Let’s go to the table next to it."

Only after Hugh Chapman and the young woman had settled at a table behind them did Nina raise her head.

Caleb Rhodes poured the drink she had bought into a glass. Before Nina could take a sip, the young woman unexpectedly walked over.

She smiled confidently and said, "President Rhodes, what a surprise! I never expected to run into you in a small place like this! Do you remember me? I’m Wallace Nash’s daughter, Bianca Nash."

Caleb Rhodes just gave a faint nod. "How has your father been recently?"

The young woman smiled. "He mentioned you just yesterday. He said your project in Aethelburg is doing exceptionally well and that the higher-ups are taking it very seriously. He also said the projects in Plainsgate and Norwick will probably be yours as well."

Just then, Hugh Chapman also looked over at Caleb Rhodes.

His gaze held a mix of thirty percent contempt and seventy percent provocation, along with a hatred that Caleb couldn’t comprehend.

Caleb automatically ignored such childish behavior, simply assuming he was Bianca’s young boyfriend.

"I’ll visit your father when I have the time."

Bianca smiled. "My father would be thrilled. He keeps saying he lost to you in chess last time and needs to win a game back to save face."

As she spoke, she looked at Nina.

Then she feigned a slight surprise. "Oh, I thought you were Miss Lowell, but you’re not. This young lady looks so familiar, like I’ve seen her somewhere before..."

Nina nodded at her but said nothing.

After a few more pleasantries, Bianca returned to her table. Suddenly, she remembered where she had seen Nina before. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

She couldn’t help but glance back at Nina one more time and said to Hugh, "The person in the photo in your room... she looks so much like her..."

She frowned, about to say more, but Hugh immediately cut her off.

"There are tons of people in this world who look alike. Don’t jump to conclusions just because you see a slight resemblance."

Hearing the irritation in his voice, Bianca changed the subject. "I’ve already contacted a director for you. You have an audition tomorrow. We’ve settled on the second male lead. Since you have no acting experience, you can start with a supporting role. If you find you like acting, we’ll go for a lead role next time there’s a good script..."

After a pause, she added, "Don’t worry about what happened a few days ago. I’m already looking for someone to handle it. It shouldn’t be a big problem..."

"That industry is complicated, but you don’t need to worry too much. With me as your agent, it should be fine..."

Bianca spoke with great earnestness, but the person listening was no longer paying attention.

Hugh’s mind was completely on Nina, so lost in thought that he barely heard what Bianca was saying.

Unfortunately, Nina was sitting with her back to him, so he could only stare at Caleb Rhodes from time to time.

After a while, Nina stood up and went to the restroom.

There was a small door next to the restroom in this little restaurant. Nina went straight through it to the outside.

Not even two minutes later, Hugh appeared.

His voice was hoarse. He managed to choke out "Sis," and then couldn’t speak.

Nina stepped forward and straightened his collar, asking in a low voice, "You want to get into the entertainment industry?"

Hugh said, "Yes. I want to make money."

Nina frowned. "I can’t stop you from choosing your own path, but you haven’t finished your college entrance exams yet. You have to at least wait until they’re over."

Hugh gripped Nina’s hand, his tone firm. "I can’t wait. You’re suffering all day at the Rhodes Family’s home, and you still have to cover my medical bills. Life is too hard. Now I hear you’re living with Caleb Rhodes. He’s not a good person. He’s ruthless and has a lot of dirty tricks. Sis, I can’t let you live like that anymore."

The young man’s gaze was obsessive and helpless, filled with nothing but Nina’s reflection.

Nina pulled her hand free and glanced back inside the door. "This isn’t the place to talk," she whispered. "I can only say a few words, then I have to go. Listen carefully."

"First, you must finish your college entrance exams. Second, stay out of your brother’s business. I’ll handle it. Third, from now on, my affairs have nothing to do with you. Whether I live or die, you are to act as if you know nothing."

"This is what I owe your brother, and what I owe you. So..."

Before she could finish, Hugh grabbed her by the shoulders, his voice agitated. "What do you mean, ’whether you live or die, I should act as if I know nothing’? What are you talking about?"

Nina pried his hands off, her eyes cold as she looked back toward the door. "Your brother was killed protecting me, so I must avenge him. But the Rhodes Family is too powerful. It’s hard for me to even get close to Crystal Rhodes. If they find out I want to kill her, they’ll eliminate me before I can even make a move."

"Chloe Joyce and Ivy Lawson are done for now. All that’s left are Crystal Rhodes and Zyler Rhodes. They’re too well-protected. It’s hard for me to find an opportunity."

"If I can’t avenge your brother, my plan is to take Crystal Rhodes down with me. Hugh, you’re different. You’re still young. You just need to live a good life, the life you’re supposed to have. Don’t get involved in my quest for revenge."

"That way, I can consider my debt to your brother paid."

Hugh gazed at her delicate face, his eyes filled with a terrifyingly obsessive adoration.

Unfortunately, Nina’s attention was focused entirely on the doorway, and she completely missed the look on Hugh’s face.

He raised a hand to touch Nina’s cold cheek and whispered, "Sis, you have your convictions, and I have someone I want to protect. Crystal Rhodes has to die, of course, but you have to be with me. After it’s all done, we’ll leave this place."

"That’s why I need to make enough money in the shortest time possible, so we can leave this place for good and never come back."

Just then, an elongated shadow suddenly appeared at the corner of the hallway.

Nina’s heart leaped in alarm. She pushed Hugh away and started walking back inside.

But Hugh grabbed her hand, stopping her from leaving.

Seeing the shadow grow shorter, meaning its owner would soon come into view, Nina grew anxious. "Hugh, let go!"

Hugh held on tight. "No! I haven’t seen you in months! I’m not letting go!"
