My five ghostly husbands-Chapter 234 Heat (1)
Chapter 234: Chapter 234 Heat (1)
"Wife!" Karl called out loudly as they wandered through the city market, eyes wide with curiosity.
"Wife!" he said again, louder this time, catching sight of Ruby standing in front of a street food cart, looking far too focused on steamed buns and sugar-dusted bread.
"Ah, yes?" Ruby turned quickly, blinking as she snapped out of her food thoughts.
"I want to go to the washroom," Karl said, pouting dramatically and shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
Ruby’s eyes softened with instant understanding. "Alright. Legs—find a hotel fast," she said seriously, her focus now shifting from tasty snacks to urgent business.
Julian, who had been quietly scanning the area, heard her words and turned his head toward Karl. A quiet smile appeared on his face, and he whispered softly, "Thank you, Brother Karl."
Karl gave him a small thumbs-up, still pouting, but proud nonetheless.
Soon, Ruby found a nearby hotel and booked an exclusive room, a full suite with two bedrooms and private bathrooms. The staff was kind and respectful, guiding them up through quiet halls into a large, elegant space.
The room was beautiful.
High windows let the daylight spill in, golden and soft. The floor was cool underfoot, and there was a round coffee table in the center where Ruby gently placed her bags.
Without wasting time, Julian and Karl rushed toward the rooms.
But Julian—
The moment he entered the washroom and closed the door, everything changed.
He stood still.
His hands moved down slowly, and then he saw it—
That red.
That awful, warm, unmistakable sign.
His eyes widened.
His knees went a little weak.
And then the wave hit him.
No. No. Please no. Not today... not here... not now...
His body had gone into heat.
Just once a year, it happened. Their kind had something like a cycle, a bleeding period through their egg-laying canal.
And today was his day.
He leaned against the wall, covering his face with both hands as the sting of tears filled his eyes.
"Why..." he whispered. "Why today?"
It burned.
The slow trickle, the aching pressure, the sudden weight in his chest.
"I didn’t even bring any wraps..." he muttered shakily, tears falling faster now. "God, why do you always choose me for this? Why do I always get the worst timing..."
He needed a canalwrap, a special cloth used to cover the bleeding area and keep the flow under control. But he hadn’t expected it. He didn’t pack one. He thought he had more time.
And now he was stuck.
In the middle of the city.
With everyone just outside.
His hands shook as he sat down on the tiled floor, burying his face in his knees. He didn’t want anyone to see him like this. Not Ruby. Not Karl. Not even gentle Milo.
And so he cried, quietly—
Alone in the silence of a luxurious bathroom.
Ruby noticed something strange.
Karl had returned from the washroom already talking as usual, rummaging through his bag like nothing happened. But Julian... hadn’t come back.
At first, she thought he might be taking his time.
But then something in her heart tightened.
That quiet stillness... it didn’t feel right.
Without saying anything, Ruby walked slowly toward the other bedroom, her steps cautious. She stopped outside the bathroom door, hand hovering near the wood. The hotel claimed to be exclusive, but the soundproofing was poor and that’s when she heard it.
A soft, broken sob.
Her eyes widened.
"Jules?" she called gently, her hand pressing to the door. "Are you okay?" frёewebηovel.cѳm
No answer.
Only the sound of muffled crying.
Ruby’s chest tightened. A strange panic rose in her throat. Julian had been smiling this morning. He looked so peaceful, so calm. What changed?
"Jules, can you hear me?" she said again, more worried now. "Please open the door."
She knocked lightly, her voice soft but trembling. "Is something wrong? Please, baby, talk to me..."
For a few seconds, there was nothing.
Then—a small click.
The door opened.
And Ruby’s heart broke.
Julian stood there, his soft black robe slightly wrinkled, his hands trembling, and his eyes red from crying. His face was pale, his bottom lip shaking like he was trying to hold everything in but failing.
Ruby didn’t say a word.
She pulled him into a tight hug, her arms wrapping gently around his trembling shoulders.
Julian let out a weak sob and leaned into her, burying his face in her shoulder. Her clothes were quickly soaked with tears, but she didn’t care. She rubbed his back slowly, her other hand cradling the back of his head.
"Shh... Jules..." she whispered. "Tell me what happened, sweetheart."
He didn’t reply.
"Don’t cry like this, baby..." she said gently. "Please tell me. If you don’t, how will I know what’s hurting you? Are you feeling sick?"
Julian choked out another sob.
Her voice was so calm, so warm... it made him cry harder.
And finally, between broken breaths, he muttered,
"I... g-got... h-heat..."
His voice was shaking, small and ashamed.
But Ruby understood instantly.
Thanks to the memories of the original body, she knew exactly what that meant. About their kind. Their biology. That once a year, their system triggered something deeply delicate and hard to speak about.
She pulled back just enough to cup his tear-stained face, brushing strands of hair away from his forehead.
"Oh, Jules..."
He sniffled and looked down, unable to meet her eyes.
Ruby leaned her forehead gently against his.
"You should’ve told me, baby. You don’t have to go through this alone."
And this time, Julian cried not from shame... but from relief.
Ruby guided Julian carefully to the bed and helped him sit down. His legs were trembling a little, and his eyes were still wet from crying. She sat beside him for a moment, her hand gently resting on his back, giving him time to breathe.
He sniffled, wiping his face with the back of his sleeve.
"What should I do, wife...?" he whispered brokenly, his voice filled with guilt. "I ruined your day, didn’t I?"
Ruby turned toward him, her expression soft and full of warmth. She reached for his hand and held it gently.
"Please don’t say that," she said softly, shaking her head. "You didn’t ruin anything."
She looked around the room for a second, already thinking. "Okay... where should I buy pads?" she asked, her voice calm but focused.
Julian blinked, confused. "Pads?"
Ruby tilted her head slightly, realizing something. "Wait... what did you use during those days before?"
He lowered his gaze, embarrassed, and murmured, "Canalwrap. That’s what we use."
Ruby nodded with understanding.
"Alright. I’ll buy it for you, okay? Just wait for me."
