Chapter 300: Chapter 300

Satou watches as everyone was surprised beside him and Loki , Satou had sensed her presence from the beginning but chose to remain silent since it was Sylvara and not an invader.

"How long has she been there?!" Kelvin demanded.

"The entire time," Sylvara said, her voice soft but carrying clearly.

Loki explained. "She’s been to Valstrath before on various missions. Knows the territory, the patrol patterns, how to move through human lands without detection. She can guide you to Richard Clay and ensure you get back alive."

Sylvara stepped forward, moving with the same fluid grace her father had possessed. She bowed to Satou—a formal gesture that carried genuine respect despite the complicated history between them.

"Lord Satou, I would be honored to assist you on this mission." Her smile was genuine, warm, transforming her unmemorable features into something almost beautiful. "I accept it. I was looking for a way to repay Sir Satou and everyone’s kindness. I am glad I could be of help."

The room had gone very quiet. Those who knew the history—Jessica, Lyra, Loki—were watching the interaction with careful attention. Those who didn’t were confused by the sudden tension.

Satou studied her for a long moment and he saw her sharp eyes was filled with sincerity and since she knows the place having been there , it will be nice to have an extra hands "

"Then I accept your assistance," Satou said quietly. "Thank you, Sylvara."

He stepped forward and did something that clearly surprised her—he reached out and gently rubbed her head, a gesture of affection and gratitude.

Sylvara’s eyes widened, her professional composure cracking completely. For a moment she looked incredibly young, almost vulnerable. Then she smiled again, this time with genuine warmth that reached her eyes and made them shine.

"You’re welcome, Lord Satou."

"We leave today," Satou said, his mind already shifting to mission planning. "Immediately. The faster we move, the better our chances of catching Richard before he leaves."

"Today?" Jessica protested. "Satou, you need to prepare—"

"No time," Satou interrupted. "Every hour we delay is another hour Richard might finish his research and return to Chronus. We move now, travel fast, strike fast, return fast."

He turned to Sylvara. "How quickly can you be ready?"

"I’m already ready," Sylvara replied. "I travel light. Give me ten minutes to gather my weapons and we can depart."

"Good." Satou looked at Jessica and Lyra, seeing the worry in their eyes. His heart clenched, but this had to be done.

He moved to Jessica first, pulling her close and kissing her thoroughly. When they broke apart, she was breathless.

"Come back to me," she whispered.

"Always."

Then to Lyra, who met his kiss with fierce intensity, her fingers gripping his shoulders hard enough to hurt.

"Don’t do anything stupid," she said when they separated.\

"Define stupid."

"You know exactly what I mean." But she was smiling through her worry.

Satou addressed the room. "Jessica, Lyra—you’re in charge while I’m gone. Continue preparations exactly as planned. Integrate the new forces. Coordinate with Commander Vex’ahlia and Chief Ssk’thar. Maintain training schedules. I’ll be back in ten days maximum."

"And if Lady Seraphina arrives?" Lyra asked.

"Welcome her. Explain the situation. Tell her I’ll return as soon as possible." Satou paused. "And if for some reason I don’t return in ten days—"

"Don’t," Jessica said sharply. "Don’t finish that sentence. You’re coming back. Period."

He smiled. "I’m coming back."

To the others: "Urgak, maintain combat readiness. Kelvin, keep the scouts active—I want intelligence on human movements. Grimnir, continue weapons training. Chief Ssk’thar, integrate your forces with ours. Commander Vex’ahlia, coordinate with everyone to ensure smooth cooperation."

"Understood," they responded in unison.

Loki moved forward, his eyes serious despite his usual playfulness. "Satou, this is dangerous. Richard Clay is formidable even alone. And you’ll be in the heart of human territory without backup or easy escape routes."

"I know."

"But it’s also the best chance we’ll ever have to cripple Chronus permanently," Loki continued. "Kill Richard, and the Time Lord loses half his power and soul. He drops from a serious threat to manageable problem." His expression hardened. "Do whatever it takes. Don’t hold back. Don’t show mercy. Richard dying is too important to risk failure."

"I understand."

Sylvara reappeared carrying a small pack and several additional concealed weapons. "Ready when you are, Lord Satou."

Satou took one last look around the room. At Jessica and Lyra, who he loved. At Urgak and Kelvin, who’d been with him since the beginning. At Grimnir, who’d survived the original human massacre. At the new allies—Ssk’thar, Vex’ahlia—who’d come to fight beside them.

"Hold the settlement," he said simply. "I’ll be back soon."

Then he and Sylvara turned and walked out of the administrative building.

[DEPARTURE]

They left through the northern gate, moving fast but not running—that would draw attention. Satou wore practical travel clothes rather than his usual armor, with weapons concealed. Sylvara moved beside him like a ghost, her footsteps completely silent despite the uneven terrain.

Behind them, the settlement continued its frantic preparations. Warriors training. Defenses being built. Supplies being gathered. A community preparing for war.

But Satou couldn’t focus on that right now. His attention was forward, north, toward a monastery five days away where Richard Clay researched in isolation.

They walked in silence for the first hour, leaving the settlement far behind. The forest was quiet except for normal sounds—birds, insects, wind through leaves.

Satou then breaks the silence . "Tell me about Valstrath," he said, changing the subject. "What should I expect?"

Sylvara’s expression shifted to professional focus. "Northern human kingdom, relatively small but wealthy from mineral resources. Military is professional but not exceptional—maybe five thousand regular troops total. They’ll have patrols throughout their territory, but they’re not on high alert since they’re far from demon lord territories."

"What about the monastery?"

"The Sanctum of Eternal Wisdom. Built three centuries ago, houses about fifty monks who study ancient texts and practice martial arts. They’re not pushovers—these are warrior-scholars who can fight as well as read."

Sylvara’s voice dropped lower. "The real danger is getting there and back. Five days through human territory. We’ll need to avoid patrols, stay off main roads, move primarily at night. One mistake and we’re dealing with human military response before we even reach Richard."
