Chapter 38: Chapter 38

At that moment Valentina’s expression remained unreadable, but deep down, a slow, simmering anger was brewing inside her. She knew. She had known all along that Victoria was behind this. The sudden arrest, the humiliation, the petty revenge—it all reeked of her.

Yet, she refused to give Victoria the satisfaction of a reaction.

Victoria, however, was thriving off the moment, her voice sharp and triumphant as she continued, "I told you, Valentina, I warned you! But you just had to act all high and mighty, didn’t you?"

At that moment her eyes gleamed with cruelty, her lips curling into a mocking smirk.

"Now look at you." She gestured toward Valentina’s restrained form. "Caught. Helpless. Powerless."

She tilted her head slightly, pretending to ponder, then let out a dramatic sigh.

"I hope you’ve learned your lesson. Maybe next time, you’ll know better than to challenge me."

Hearing Victoria words.

Valentina’s hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her palms, but she remained silent.

Then Victoria leaned in, her voice lowering, but every word dripped with venom.

"And since today is such a special day..." she paused, then smirked, "

"your mother’s remembrance day, isn’t it? Well, guess what? You’re not going."

At that moment her eyes sparkled with satisfaction, watching for even the smallest flicker of emotion in Valentina’s gaze. "Consider it your punishment."

A cold silence settled in the room, thick with tension.

Victoria stood tall, her chin lifted in triumph, knowing she had just struck Valentina where it would hurt the most.

Valentina’s fists tightened as an undeniable rage swelled inside her. Her jaw clenched, her breath uneven, but she forced herself to stay composed, her sharp gaze cutting through Victoria like a blade.

"You wouldn’t dare," she said, her voice low, but carrying enough weight to still the air around them.

Victoria tilted her head mockingly, a slow, taunting smile playing on her lips. "Wouldn’t I?" she mused, her voice dripping with amusement.

Valentina stepped forward, her eyes blazing with fury, but she refused to let her emotions overtake her. "You’ve crossed the line before, but this time... I’m going to make sure this nonsense stops for good."

Victoria only laughed, tossing her hair back as if Valentina’s anger was nothing but an entertaining spectacle to her.

Valentina’s heart pounded. She knew this wasn’t something she could handle alone, and there was only one person who could pull her out of this mess—Raymond.

Though she had never intended to call him, this situation left her no choice. Swallowing her pride, she was about requesting for her phone.

But then, it hit her.

Her mouth froze, her stomach sinking with a bitter realization—she didn’t even have Raymond’s phone number.

The disgrace of it burned more than her anger.

At that moment Valentina jaw tightened, her knuckles turning white as the realization sank deeper. She had spent almost every moment with Raymond since their marriage, so much so that she never once considered needing his number. But now, standing in a police station, held captive by Victoria’s taunting gaze, she was utterly powerless.

Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out. Her mind raced, but the shame was suffocating.

Victoria’s laughter cut through the silence like a knife. She clapped her hands slowly, her smug grin widening.

"Oh? What happened, Valentina?" she sneered. "Just now, you were so confident. So sure of yourself. But look at you now—silent. What’s wrong? Did your words finally betray you?"

She tilted her head mockingly, her eyes dancing with amusement.

"Go on, say something. No? That’s what I thought, what took you so long to realized how useless you’re."

Valentina’s jaw clenched, but she said nothing. She couldn’t. The disgrace of it was too much.

At that moment one of the officer entered the room with the items in hand.

Edward glanced at the items placed before him, his eyes narrowing in frustration. He picked up one of the opened boxes, his fingers tightening around the edges as if trying to control his rising anger. The gleaming treasure inside was untouched, yet the mere fact that it had been unsealed made it unfit for their usual elite clientele.

"Unbelievable," he muttered under his breath, shaking his head. His jaw tightened, his expression hardening as he turned his attention back to Valentina.

"Do you even realize what you’ve done?" His voice was low, laced with restrained fury.

"These are not just ordinary items. They hold value beyond what you could possibly comprehend, and yet—" he gestured toward the opened boxes, "—you handled them like some cheap market goods."

Valentina remained still, her posture unwavering, but deep down, she knew this wasn’t looking good for her.

Victoria crossed her arms, smirking with satisfaction.

"Well, well, Valentina," she taunted, "looks like you finally ran out of luck. What are you going to say now?"

Edward ignored Victoria’s remarks and focused on the police officers standing nearby.

"Now that these items have been unsealed," he said coldly, "there’s no turning back. We’ll have to sell them at a loss, which means someone has to pay the price. And guess what?" He leaned forward slightly, his tone dripping with finality.

"That someone is you."

Valentina felt her fingers curl into fists. She exhaled slowly, forcing herself to stay calm, but her mind was racing.

"And how exactly do you plan to make me pay?" she asked, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.

At that moment Edward let out a sharp, humorless chuckle, shaking his head as if amused by her audacity.

"Oh, don’t worry," he said, his voice chillingly smooth.

"You’ll find out soon enough."

The interrogation room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of his words sinking in.

Edward smirked, his gaze sharp and cold as he turned back to Valentina.

"Well, well, Valentina," he said, his tone laced with mockery.

"Not only did you commit fraud by accepting something that was never meant to be sold, but you also had the audacity to tamper with the items."

Then he gestured toward the opened boxes, his expression darkening.

"Now, not only will you compensate for the loss, but you’ll also pay for the damages. Every single cent."

However Valentina remained silent, her shoulders tense, her hands tightening into fists at her sides. She felt the weight of the situation pressing down on her, but she refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing her break.

Edward turned slightly, handing the unopened boxes over to Victoria, who grinned triumphantly as she accepted them. She held them up like trophies, her eyes glinting with amusement.

"See?"

Victoria taunted, "I told you, Valentina. You think you’re untouchable? Look at you now."
