Chapter 40: Tribe Negotiations

After the Riverfang Tribe finished their lunch, Kael asked Castor to help him pass a message to Ulric.

As expected, he had asked for a meeting.

Ulric agreed to his request under the condition that the Chieftain of the Riverfang Tribe come alone. Kael readily agreed.

When Kael arrived at the cave, Ulric brought him to one of the small clearings Maximus dug, which they had converted into a reception area.

Leone was already there, waiting for their arrival. The young man wore wolf pelt clothes, a wolf cap, and a mask to hide his face.

His clothes were a little shabby, but it was still better than joining the meeting wearing his noble clothes. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

He intended to hide his identity until Kael became his vassal. Also, he couldn’t risk the scouts of the different tribes discovering him at this point in time.

"Please sit," Ulric said to Kael before sitting crosslegged beside Leone.

The middle-aged man stared at the third person in their meeting. He was a little surprised, but if Ulric didn’t ask the other person to leave, the person wearing the wolf mask must be someone special.

"I’m sure you already know why I have brought my entire tribe here, Ulric," Kael said calmly. "After the Black Wolf Tribe’s defeat, I felt like staying in our ancestral home was no longer possible.

"As such, I ordered my tribe to evacuate to the Grimjaw Mountain, hoping to seek asylum under your tribe. I hope you will not force our tribe to merge with the Alborin Tribe. In return, we promise to become your most steadfast ally, facing all dangers alongside you."

"You mean to say... you’re willing to make the Riverfang Tribe the retainers of the Alborin Tribe, and you only want to keep your tribe’s name and legacy intact?" Ulric asked.

"Yes," Kael answered. "That is our most sincere wish to you."

Ulric could empathize with Kael. If their situations were swapped, he would have asked for the same favor.

"Understood, but I have a condition," Ulric crossed his arms over his chest. "Your warriors must obey and prioritize my orders over yours. Rest assured. I will not give them any unreasonable orders.

"The Riverfang Tribe can keep their name, but your warriors must belong to us. We don’t need a separate group of warriors to defend our territory, and I believe this arrangement is the most beneficial for all of us."

Excluding the two old men, Swain and Darius, as well as the women who had been hastily trained to fight against the Black Wolf Tribe, the Warriors of the Alborin Tribe numbered less than a dozen.

The Riverfang Tribe had at least thirty warriors, about three times bigger than their forces.

If they were to act autonomously instead of serving one Chieftain, things might get complicated. As such, Ulric named this condition.

Kael had already expected this move from Ulric. Since their tribe had more warriors, it was understandable that they took measures to prevent them from taking over the Alborin Tribe’s domain by force.

The only factor stopping them from doing so was the threat of the Gryphon that had assisted Ulric’s tribe during their battle against the Black Wolf Tribe and their allies.

"I need to talk to my warriors first," Kael answered after thinking for a few minutes. "But I think convincing them is no issue. Will they also stay at that big camp at the base of the mountain that has a training field?"

"Yes," Ulric nodded. "That is our barracks. We plan to let our warriors train there. Other tribes might try to invade our domain, so we need them to grow stronger."

Kael was also very worried about the movements of the other tribes. If the warriors of the Alborin Tribe and the Riverfang Tribe didn’t fight as one, the chances of them losing from an invasion was high.

"These are indeed hard times." Kael sighed. "The spark Arlo lit forces the weaker tribes to either band together or be absorbed by the stronger ones."

"Indeed. But you have nothing to worry about." Ulric smiled faintly. "As long as the Riverfang Tribe is sincere in lending us their strength, we will be unstoppable."

Leone had already told him that their priority was to strengthen the warriors of the Alborin Tribe and upgrade them to Rank 2 Elite Warriors.

Daedalus had already come up with a plan to achieve that. They just had to arm the warriors with Rare Weapons, raising their combat power by a good margin.

Once Leone unlocked more rare blueprints, he could then mass produce armors next, which would strengthen their defenses.

Their priority right now was to let Leone finish his ten territorial missions and increase their territory rank to Rank 2.

Daedalus assured them that, by then, Leone would gain the power to make individual warriors stronger.

After their meeting ended, Kael returned to his camp at the base of the mountain. Leone was kind enough to let the old man ride Arion, so he could also experience what it was like to ride a Pegasus.

This would also show the members of the Riverfang Tribe that the Alborin Tribe held them in high regard, giving way to cooperation between the two tribes.

"It’s a shame he didn’t wish to merge with us," Ulric shook his head helplessly.

"It’s fine," Daedalus replied. "We can start with enticing their warriors. Once we get them, the rest will follow without problems. Everyone wants to get stronger. Once they notice that only the members of the Alborin Tribe are getting stronger, they’ll be curious. After they learn why, they’ll definitely jump over to our side."

Leone then glanced at his sixth mission, which would soon be completed now that the Riverfang Tribe had arrived inside their domain.

The young man already decided which rare armor blueprint to choose, which would complete the equipment set of his warriors.

All they needed were materials to make them. Fortunately, Daedalus could scan the borderlands and pinpoint which location they could gather the materials needed.

Last but not least, he was also excited to introduce the uncommon mounts to his warriors, which would raise their motivation.

The safest bet for mounts was Forest Wolves. But Daedalus said it lacked exclusivity.

In the end, they narrowed it down to Raptors.

Raptors were lizard-like mounts that could also attack if needed. They were also useful in long-distance journeys due to their great stamina.

After Leone and Daedalus discussed which Raptor species would be best, Leone decided to get ten Forest Raptors for everyday patrols in the forest.

The last five tickets would be exchanged for Ironclaw War Raptors.

These raptors would be exclusively reserved for fighting, serving as the war mounts of the Alborin Tribe.

Ulric watched with amusement as the young man and the Grimoire both chuckled like third-rate villains, imagining their warriors armed to the teeth and repelling the fools who would dare to invade their domain.
