My Life In A Fantasy, Women-Dominated World-Chapter 105: UHRA:GB
They all had been in the car for nearly 1 day straight, only getting out to stretch their stiff bodies or to eat, but by no means was it a stressful trip.
The highway was open, the weather was pleasant enough and with the beauty of Snombi and surroundings, Aaron didn’t even feel like they were going on a dangerous mission.
But now that they were at the edge of Gammora, reality came rushing over them like a huge wrecking ball from a crane.
It hit them hard, especially Aaron who wasn’t used to such scenes.
He wasn’t the kind to care too much about people who weren’t related to him, but it pained him seeing the huge queues of cars that were continuously leaving the city.
And considering it had been more than a week since the labyrinth outbreak, yet people were still trying to leave, it was only an indicator to how bad the situation was.
No words were exchanged between anyone, but Jaq did step on the accelerator once again.
She pulled up ahead, slowing down when she realized that Aaron wasn’t following.
"Aaron, let’s go." Claire said lightly, keeping her palm on his shoulder reassuredly.
Aaron nodded in response, taking a deep breath to calm himself before following Jaq as they made their way towards Gammora.
Luckily even in panic, there was order. Out of 4 lanes, nearly 3 were being used for evacuation purposes, but one lane was left vacant for teams and raiders.
Half an hour later, driving slowly in the single lane that was vacant, two cars reached a checkpoint.
A small team of young ladies was stationed at the place, all of them dressed in military clothes and carrying specialized plasma firearms that were actually effective against monsters.
Seeing their cars approaching, the ladies got up and waved at Jaq to stop.
After a couple minutes, Jaq was allowed to pass by and then Aaron’s turn came.
"ID and purpose?" the guard said in a nonchalant tone, but when her eyes fell over Aaron, they widened.
Claire rolled down the window from the backseat and handed out her raiders ID, stating the purpose to be government mission whose slip she already had.
"Miss, I am sorry but the situation within the city is really bad. I don’t know what you were thinking but bringing a civilian into a monster infested city isn’t a smart decision." The guard said with fake politeness, her eyes fixated on Aaron who was driving.
Clearly, she didn’t think that a male like him had any place in being at such a place. Especially not one that looked so young, at least.
"He’s our party member, I appreciate your advice, though." Claire replied calmly, tapping on Aaron’s shoulder.
He understood the gesture easily, his eyes flicking to the standing guard before sighing and focusing back on the road.
It was only normal for everyone to think that a male like him had no place being in such a dangerous place.
The only males that could do anything worthwhile were purely physical, and even those took many years to build out their strength and stats.
Without even waiting for the guard’s reply, his foot pressed the accelerator lightly and maneuvered the car within Gammora’s outskirts.
Jaq seemed to know the ways, which made it an easier job for Aaron to follow after her.
And that was probably for the best, as if he was driving alone, he would’ve already gotten lost in the shattered state of the city...
Everywhere his eyes fell over was destroyed, broken and shattered.
Dried bloodstains were a common sight, with the occasional witnessing of rotting pieces of flesh, countless flies and rodents buzzing around.
All the windows were swiftly rolled up to avoid the disgusting smell, and the car had to be driven slowly and silently, following the exact trail that Jaq left behind.
Nearly half an hour trickled by, following Jaq’s trail and making their way deeper.
Luckily, they were still quite far away from the labyrinth’s entrance, sparing them from any huge car smashing monster.
But finally, the wait finished and the grim mood was raised slightly when Jaq parked the car near a huge building.
Built out of white marble and decorated with various types of fantasy-like metals, it was the one of the only buildings in the vicinity that appeared to be unharmed.
"If only they put as much effort in saving the city as they put in saving their HQ." Eva scoffed dryly when she saw the condition of the building.
On the front, ’UHRA:GB’ was written in bold letters, which entailed United Humanity Raiders Association: Gammora Branch.
"Easier said than done." Claire commented mildly, her eyes watching over the carnage with a strange sense of detachment before she put on a smile and walked closer to Aaron, "Calm down, I am here."
She wrapped her hand into his, intertwining their fingers as she pulled him towards the entry gate of the association building.
Jaq, Katie and Lia were already standing by the gate, all of them appearing as serious as they could be.
Even the all time playful Jaq wasn’t speaking out of her ass, however she appeared to be focused on a distant group of ladies standing beside a red coloured minibus.
There were nearly 10 women, all of them dressed in wine-red clothes and a bold symbol intricately woven onto their back.
It appeared like a serpentine face, mouth open and fangs bared boldly.
Seeing that she was distracted, the rest of her group members glanced in that direction too.
"Goddamn it, will that be an issue?" Lia cursed silently before looking towards Claire.
Claire smiled, but the smile didn’t quite reach her eyes as they seemed to be glaring at the women intensely, "From me? No."
Eva wasn’t convinced by her best friend’s words, "Clay, don’t even think about it. They are a bigger guild."
Jaq nodded, "I know we can thrash these 10 weaklings, but if the news reaches to their higher ups, this time it won’t end just with a few fractures."
Aaron didn’t even need to listen to their chatters to understand what they were talking about, after all, it was written right in front of his eyes.
On the red minibus, along with the serpentine logo, the name of their guild was boldly printed.
Sanguini.
