MY Masochistic CEO-Chapter 157 A reconciliation
Back at the office, Melody stood up to greet me. But when she saw Grace behind me, her expression immediately darkened.
I ignored her and walked past her with Grace, chatting and laughing.
"William, come here!"
Melody’s expression was gloomy.
I stopped, said goodbye to Grace, and walked up to Melody. "What’s the matter?"
My tone was very indifferent.
"Why are you with Grace?"
"Oh, she’s the project assistant, and we went to Wallace Company together."
Melody frowned. "Why didn’t you reply to my messages?"
As she said this, she lowered her voice.
"I’ve been busy, so I didn’t check my phone."
Of course, that was just an excuse. Even if I was busy, I could still find time to reply to messages.
She took a deep breath, anger flashing in her eyes. "Is that your explanation?"
"What do you want me to explain to you?"
I looked straight at her.
Melody seemed flustered. "You will stay and work tonight."
"Sorry, Ms. Wilson, I have something to do tonight, so I’m afraid I can’t stay."
I said lightly, "Let’s talk about it tomorrow."
Then, I turned and walked away.
I knew Melody must be furious at this point, but so what?
She could be angry. But I had every right to be mad too.
Back at my desk, I was surprised to see that the partition I had punched through had been replaced.
Just then, Paul walked over, and I asked, "Who replaced this for me?"
Paul pressed his lips. "Ms. Wilson had it replaced."
I looked at Melody’s back with a complex expression.
"After you left, Ms. Wilson went to the director’s office."
He whispered, "And I heard they seemed to have an argument."
What?
Melody argued with Jessica?
How was that possible?!
"Is it true?"
"Of course it’s true. According to colleagues near the office, Ms. Wilson has been speaking up for you."
So, I got Melody wrong?
She actually argued with her best friend, for my sake?
I suddenly felt like a jerk.
"You really made a big move today. Now they’re all making fun of Nicole."
Paul gave me a thumbs-up. "Who would still bother with Nicole now? She’s just unreasonable."
I shrugged. "Well, she deserves it."
"But be careful. She seems to have her eye on you now, and she’s threatening to ruin you if you make a mistake!"
"I’m not afraid of her!"
After chatting with Paul for a while, until it was time to leave, I walked up to Melody and said softly. "Ms. Wilson, I’d like to work an extra hour tonight!"
Melody ignored me, and I was actually a bit nervous, afraid she might leave.
But thankfully, she didn’t.
After a while, most people had left, including Jessica. Only two of us were left in the marketing department. I mustered up the courage and walked over, grabbing her delicate hand. "Ms. Wilson."
"Let go of me. This is the office. What if others saw this?"
I held her hand tightly, not giving her a chance to shake me off. She struggled a bit and then placed her hand under the desk. "You’re just a rascal!"
"Otherwise, I will lose you." I exaggerated.
"I never belonged to you!"
Melody gave me a glare and then snorted. "You ignored me before, and was indifferent to me. Why are you coming to me now?"
I quickly smiled, "No. We agreed before not to let others see our relationship in the office, so I have to act a bit indifferent."
Her expression softened slightly. Apparently, she agreed with my explanation. "Alright. Explain to me. What’s the deal with you and Grace! I mean in the elevator?"
"That was just a misunderstanding. The elevator was crowded, you know. You’re overthinking it, even making me afraid to take the elevator again. Even if it wasn’t Grace, there would be others. I won’t be able to explain even if I’m innocent!" I said with a bitter face.
Being persistent was the right way.
"If you care it so much, I won’t take the elevator when there are female colleagues in it. Or, I’ll take the stairs to work every day. Okay?"
I sighed, "As long as you’re happy, I’m willing to do so!"
Melody’s face softened. She bit her lip. "So, I was wrong?"
"No." I shook my head, looking at her affectionately. "It just shows that you care about me. I’m actually very happy because I hold a significant place in your heart."
Melody looked a bit flustered. "Then tell me, why didn’t you reply to my messages? Don’t use that silly, incredible excuse to deceive me."
I knew she would ask that question.
I spoke, "Do you know why Mrs. Lawrence called me in?"
She nodded.
I sighed. "Did you argue with her?"
She pursed her lips. "No."
"Thank you."
I said, "I was impulsive today, not replying to your messages because I didn’t know how to respond, and I was feeling a bit down, so..."
"Are you really going to sue Philip?"
She believed what I said and didn’t press further on that issue.
"I have handed over the lawsuit to the lawyer, and these days Philip will receive a court summons."
I didn’t hide anything. "There’s no turning back on this matter. He repeatedly pushed the limits, not taking it seriously. They think I’m joking."
Melody frowned. "Have you thought about the consequences of doing this?"
I remained silent for a while and nodded. "I know it will involve you and even Mrs. Lawrence."
"But I don’t think I’m wrong."
I said, "If you feel uncomfortable, I can resign."
"You’re just a jerk."
Melody angrily pulled her hand away from mine. "Then you can just resign. Let’s not see each other again. I don’t like impulsive men who don’t think things through." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Her face turned cold, and I felt incredibly frustrated.
"Should I simply endure mockery and slander? Do I lack dignity?"
I grumbled. "In your eyes, my dignity and my grievances are not worth mentioning."
"You go withdraw the lawsuit. I have already talked to Mrs. Lawrence. She will find a way to deal with Philip and give you an explanation."
Melody may have felt her tone was too harsh and softened it.
