My Multiple Identities Revealed After Marrying the Bigshot-Chapter 445: How about we also sell it to Lu Youxi
Chapter 445: Chapter 445: How about we also sell it to Lu Youxi
"I just said," the village chief spoke, "dividends are calculated based on the quality and quantity of rice. For instance, if you provide a certain amount of Grade A rice, you get paid a certain amount according to the dividend ratio for Grade A, and the same goes for how much Grade B rice you provide."
"This way," Lu Youxi had suggested, "without the village chief having to supervise too strenuously, everyone will naturally strive to maintain and even improve the quality of the rice they produce for the sake of a higher dividend."
After the village chief finished speaking, he let everyone disperse.
Everyone went home with high spirits, except for Ge Guifen and Lu Youzhen.
The two of them returned home with gloomy expressions, and Lu Youzhen asked unwillingly, "Mom, how much do you think Lu Youxi could raise their price by? Could it really be higher than ours?"
"How would I know!" Ge Guifen replied irritably.
She used to take pride in selling their rice for a higher price than others.
But her joy had been short-lived; soon, everyone in the village would be raising their prices and earning more than her.
And they had end-of-year dividends, too. Even though they all grew the same rice, she was left with nothing. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Mom, why don’t we also sell our rice to Lu Youxi?" Lu Youzhen advised. "I don’t like Lu Youxi either, but we can’t turn our backs on money. Now we can let Lu Youxi make money for us without us having to do anything. Actually, when you think about it, that’s pretty good."
Ge Guifen thought for a moment and said, "I’ll go talk to the village chief."
She couldn’t just stand by and watch everyone else in the village make more money than her.
It made her feel incredibly imbalanced!
Ge Guifen briskly made her way to the village chief’s house and called out from the gate, "Village chief, are you home?"
"I’m home. What’s the matter?" The village chief came out to the yard, having just changed his clothes into something more comfortable.
"Village chief, I want to discuss selling rice with you." Ge Guifen, thick-skinned, showed no signs of embarrassment about having sold rice to the factory secretly and then lied to the village chief about continuing to sell to Lu Youxi, as she stood there unabashedly bringing up the matter of selling rice.
The village chief had done business in Imperial Capital and had seen his share of the world.
He had met the likes of President Cheng, who treats people according to their status.
He had seen the down-to-earth and hardworking President Zhang.
And the scum like Hu Xingwei.
Having dealt with many people in Imperial Capital, the village chief couldn’t completely conceal his emotions, but concealing them in front of Ge Guifen was still within his capabilities.
"Selling rice?" The village chief knew what Ge Guifen was there for but pretended to be oblivious. "Are you still planning to sell to the factories? That’s fine."
"No," Ge Guifen chuckled twice. "Village chief, my partnership with the factory has ended."
The village chief internally sneered. Ge Guifen certainly knew how to flatter herself.
Her partnership with the factory?
A partnership was supposed to be on equal terms.
Did the factory ever consider Ge Guifen a partner?
"I figured, now that my partnership with the factory is over, I can continue selling rice to Lu Youxi." Ge Guifen rubbed her hands together and chuckled dryly. "Village chief, what do you think... you’ll still take my rice, right?"
"Of course," the village chief replied much to Ge Guifen’s surprise, "as long as your rice meets the quality standards, we will certainly accept it."
Ge Guifen was both taken aback and pleasantly surprised. She had expected the village chief to give her a hard time or outright refuse her.
She had been mentally prepared for that.
But she didn’t anticipate that the village chief would agree so readily.
The village chief once again admired Lu Youxi’s judgment.
Lu Youxi had told him just yesterday that after Ge Guifen heard about their price increase and end-of-year dividends, she would surely come to him wanting to sell her rice.
If Ge Guifen came, he should agree to take her on.
At first, when Lu Youxi mentioned it, the village chief had been somewhat reluctant. "I know taking Ge Guifen’s rice would increase our Hexing Rice’s supply, but just thinking about it depresses me."
Lu Youxi was aware that the village chief understood the logic; it was just that he found Ge Guifen’s behavior disgusting and didn’t want to give her the benefit.
Lu Youxi had then said with a smile, "What sort of important figure is Ge Guifen? Why bother about her?"
"I’m just worried she’ll change her mind again and disrupt our business," the village chief said.
"I’ve already thought of that," Lu Youxi replied, taking out a stack of contracts from his briefcase.
The village chief had seen Lu Youxi’s briefcase before but hadn’t expected it to contain these documents.
"The contract doesn’t specify how much rice the villagers must deliver, only that for the next ten years, they must sell their rice only to us. If they breach the contract, they will have to pay us a hefty compensation," Lu Youxi explained.
"We won’t shortchange our villagers, but we also have to secure our own interests. As our business grows, if one day the villagers are swayed by somebody else and stop selling rice to us, wouldn’t that be troublesome for our company?"
"If Ge Guifen wants to make money, then she should sign the contract," Lu Youxi declared coldly. "With a signed contract, there’s no fear of her backing out."
"You’re right."
The village chief recalled his conversation with Lu Youxi; because Lu Youxi had anticipated the situation, the village chief was no longer as upset as he had been the day before when Ge Guifen came to him.
"Come inside, let’s talk in detail," the village chief said.
In Ge Guifen’s mind, everything had been agreed upon already; she could continue supplying rice, so what else was there to discuss in detail?
She suspected the village chief just wanted to warn her about something.
Thinking this, Ge Guifen followed the village chief inside.
The Village Chief’s Wife saw Ge Guifen and didn’t even greet her.
She was utterly fed up with Ge Guifen and couldn’t even pretend to be polite.
Ge Guifen snorted, thinking to herself why the Village Chief’s Wife felt so superior.
Without paying her any attention, Ge Guifen found a seat without waiting for the village chief to speak.
"Hold on a moment," the village chief told Ge Guifen before he went into another room.
He did not instruct his wife to offer Ge Guifen a cup of water or make her a cup of tea either.
The Village Chief’s Wife just casually sat down and stared at Ge Guifen.
Ge Guifen pursed her lips in annoyance at the Village Chief’s Wife’s suspicious gaze.
It wasn’t long before the village chief returned with the contract.
He handed it to Ge Guifen, "This is the contract. Have a look, and if you agree, sign it. Once signed, we’ll accept your rice."
"What’s this about a contract?" Ge Guifen said discontentedly.
"It’s not just you, every villager who intends to sell rice to us has to sign this exclusive contract."
"Otherwise, if everyone starts thinking of selling their rice to other parties, won’t that mess things up?" the village chief explained. "We’re not insisting on this contract. It’s up to you if you want to sign it."
"If I don’t sign, you won’t take my rice?" Ge Guifen countered unhappily.
"That’s right," the village chief affirmed. "So you need to decide for yourself. We’re not insisting on having your rice sold to us."
