My Perfect Revenge: Flash Marriage With My Vampire Tycoon-Chapter 149: – He’s Your Son Too –
Lucian nodded. "Yes. She’s okay."
Relief washed over her instantly.
She gave him a weakened smile. "You... You’re crying." Her hand reached out, palm cradling his cheek.
The maan nuzzled into her touch, his beads of tears, warm. "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have left you. I don’t know what to do. I am confused and I am so lost. I’m trying so hard not to lose my mind, but..."
If he’d stayed behind with Francesca, not that he knew this would happen, Nikolas would have—
"It’s okay. I’m glad that you went. Niko can be reckless sometimes and he needs you." Francesca smiled. "Did everything go well? How is he?"
Lucian froze.
He didn’t speak.
His gaze was cast down and his shoulder had gone slumped.
Francesca blinked in confusion. What was going on? She didn’t like the look on his face. She didn’t like this feeling that had suddenly occupied the atmosphere.
"Lucian...?" Her hand on his face trembled. "Say something, will you? Is-is Nikolas okay?"
Lucian met her eyes. "I’m sorry." He shook his head. "I was useless. I couldn’t do anything. I-I couldn’t fucking do a thing. He was in so much pain, he was dying before my eyes and I just stood there, unable to do anything."
"No." Francesca shook her head. She chuckled like none of it made sense. "That’s impossible. This is Nikolas we’re talking about, Lucy. He wouldn’t die just like that. He’d been my best friend for a long time in my life and I know he wouldn’t just die like this. That makes no sense!"
Lucian sat at the edge of the bed and helped her into a sitting position.
Francesca gazed at him with eyes, wet and warm with tears. "Honey, he’s not dead is he? Please tell me that he’s not."
"I don’t know." Lucian shook his head and gently pulled her into his arms, hugging her. "I don’t really know..."
....
The doctor eventually came and took another look at Francesca. He said with a happy smile, "Your wife is okay and so is your baby. She’s two weeks in for now and it’s a miracle everything is okay."
He added, "She should be careful from now on. Make sure she doesn’t move around too much, and that she eats properly. She should get enough sleep too. And maybe come every three weeks for a checkup."
Lucian nodded. "Thank you, Matteo. Can we go home now?"
"Of course. She’s perfectly okay to go home."
The doctor, Matteo, gave each an assured smile before he turned and left. Lucian walked over to Francesca. He squatted down, grabbed her shoes and helped her put hewer feet into them.
He straightened up after and instead of letting her walk, he turned, having his back to her. "Come. Get on."
"You don’t have to do this, Lucy. I can walk."
"I know you can, love. But I want to take care of you. Come." He urged.
She stared at him and her lips tremblingly stretched into a smile. "Oh you." She sniffled, unable to stop herself from sobbing just a bit. She got to her feet and got onto his back, arms looping around his shoulders.
Lucian tucked his arms under her thighs, lifting her properly into a piggy back. Then he left the room, heading out to meet his mother who was still carrying Lucia.
The little girl had fallen asleep in her arms. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"We can go home now, mom."
Loredana nodded. And as they left, she relayed. "Massimo has brought back Nikolas... He’s at home."
Lucian paused on his feet. His eyes flickered and he tried to swallow the lump in his throat. "I see."
"We have to make sure, Lucy doesn’t find out, okay? I don’t think she’s old enough for this at all. She’s..." Loredana found it hard to make out her words. She kept walking and Lucian, who was watching her, called out, "Mom."
She stopped, and looked at him. "What?"
"Are you okay?" He asked. "You know that you can cry. You can let it out."
She stared at him. A soft smile slowly painted her lips. "If I cry and break apart... who will keep you all standing?"
Francesca and Lucian widened their eyes, their pupils dilating.
Massimo deeply bowed at them.
"Welcome back madam."
He shifted to Lucian and Francesca, holding a concerned smile. "Are you much better now Mrs. Bastiani?"
Francesca nodded at him.
"Where is my brother?" Lucian asked.
"He’s in the master bedroom, sir."
"And how is he?"
"Well... Mr. Tasso found him, he took care of him until I came. But..."
Lucian’s heart sank. "But what?"
"He’s not breathing. I don’t know if he’s still here or if he’s completely gone. But even his heart has stopped beating. The only thing I could notice was his weak scent that could barely be noticed."
Lucian swallowed the lump in his throat. He slowly nodded, understanding. "I see. Could you hold Lucia? We’d like to have a look at him."
"Of course, sir."
Massimo nodded, carefully taking the little girl from Loredana. While they walked off toward the master bedroom, Massimo sighed, his heart heavy.
Nikolas was neither his son, nor a relative, but... he’s worked for this family longer before they were even born. He watched the two brothers grow up and to suddenly have to watch one of them be nothing but a damn man.
It hurt him too.
"Sleep well, little dear." He patted Lucia’s back.
....
Lucian hesitated.
"Lucy." Loredana grabbed his hand. "If you can’t see him just yet, you don’t have to. He’s your twin brother and I can’t begin to imagine how it hurts you. So I think you should take a step back."
But Lucian shook his head. "He’s your son too. And if you can do it, why can’t I?"
She squeezed his arm.
He took a deep breath and finally turned the knob of the door. Pushing it open, he stepped in first. Loredana grabbed Francecsa’s hand and walked in with her. The door was shut behind them.
They all swallowed at the same time, gazes crossing to the bed where someone was of course laid, asleep if that’s what they would even call it.
