My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 182: Just Waiting for the Right Moment
Jack Yates sneered, "She’s the one who rushed to play the shield."
Aiden Grant understood, "Third Brother, you want to use Sydney Thorne to divert attention, to attract the Hawthorne and Shaw families’ gaze?"
Jack Yates coldly ordered, "Investigate anyone who has a grudge against Sydney Thorne, start from kindergarten."
Aiden Grant: "...Alright."
Jack Yates continued, "Then investigate Wren Hawthorne, start from her birth."
Aiden Grant: "...Alright."
After hanging up, Jack Yates called Kyle Sheffield.
Kyle Sheffield was being lectured by a group of elders, telling him that he was almost thirty, and that a man at thirty is not young anymore, it’s time to get married. If he doesn’t marry now, it’ll be hard to find someone when he’s forty.
Having children at thirty is still timely, but having children at forty would be too late.
While he is still young and successful, he should quickly find a wife, have a child next year, and lead a harmonious life.
Blah blah blah...
A group of middle-aged and elderly women surrounded him, chattering nonstop.
Kyle Sheffield was going crazy, regretted coming home, and would rather be in Northcity, enjoying his undisturbed solitude in his 200-square-meter penthouse apartment.
Just when Kyle Sheffield felt like his head was about to explode, he suddenly received a call from Jack Yates, a lifeline amidst drowning.
He stood up excitedly, with a serious face, saying, "My boss is calling, it must be something important!"
Immediately everyone stopped talking, and after a brief silence, one of Kyle Sheffield’s aunts pouted and whispered a complaint. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Calling employees during the New Year, what a demanding boss, doesn’t treat employees like humans at all."
Kyle Sheffield answered the phone with utmost respect: "Hello Mr. Yates, what can I do for you?"
Jack Yates: "At 3 PM today, I will go to Starkwood Plaza with Sydney Thorne. Have Sierra Doyle contact some reliable media, have those reporters ready to follow us, blur the photos, and get the PR department to work overtime to write an article, make it trending first, and offer five times the overtime pay."
Sierra Doyle is the PR Director.
Kyle Sheffield asked, "Do we need to blur just your face, or should Miss Thorne’s face be blurred as well?"
Jack Yates: "No need to blur her face."
Kyle Sheffield understood, this was going to elevate and dampen Sydney Thorne, then asked, "Should the article emphasize your deep affection for Miss Thorne, or is a simple report of you being together enough?"
Jack Yates: "Just report the facts, for the rest, get some internet trolls to push it."
Kyle Sheffield didn’t ask why, these things were not for him to question, just following the boss’s instructions, especially since the overtime pay was five times; it was far more rewarding than listening to idle talk from relatives.
Jack Yates looked up to see Frederick Yates standing in front of him, frowned, and asked impatiently, "What are you standing here for?"
Frederick Yates, holding a cigarette, extended a hand toward Jack Yates: "Third Brother, hush money, you decide how much."
Jack Yates: "Renee Winslow’s small tavern at Westlake is being renovated and will open after the New Year. Teach her how to manage it, and arrange some reliable people to oversee it."
Frederick Yates almost choked on smoke, coughed, "...I mean, I didn’t even collect the money, how did I end up spending it?"
Jack Yates patted him on the shoulder, "Once the Moon Landing Device is successfully developed, you’ll be the first to go to the moon."
Frederick Yates: "..."
Jack Yates ordered in a commanding tone, "Go to Thatcher Manor now, and take a Signal Interference Instrument over there."
Frederick Yates: "..."
Jack Yates: "What are you stunned for, hurry up!"
Frederick Yates pointed at his own nose, looking stunned like "Scuttler being assigned by Nine-Headed Serpent to kill Tripitaka and his disciples".
"...I mean, my brother, it’s broad daylight! How am I supposed to sneak past your girlfriend’s eyes and put the Signal Interference Instrument in your house? How do you expect me to do it?"
-
After Jack Yates left, Renee Winslow immersed herself in the study on the second floor, reading books, doing exercises, and memorizing vocabulary.
After finishing a set of exam papers, Renee Winslow stood up, stretched lazily, picked up her phone, and checked the time; it was eleven thirty.
She planned to relax by watching some videos and continue studying in the afternoon, but found that the internet was down and she couldn’t access it.
More bizarrely, her phone was showing a 2G signal!
Renee Winslow thought there was a problem with her phone, so she hurried downstairs with it, calling out as she went.
"Shana, Shana!"
Shay emerged from the kitchen wearing an apron, "What’s wrong?"
Renee Winslow asked, "Does your phone have any signal?"
Shay wasn’t good at lying, turned her head unnaturally, "I don’t know, I was chopping vegetables, didn’t check the phone."
Renee Winslow: "Didn’t you always watch TV on your phone while preparing vegetables?"
Shay: "I never watched my phone while chopping; I’m afraid of cutting my hand."
Renee Winslow: "Give me your phone, let me check."
Shay wiped her wet hands on her apron, went to the kitchen, picked up the phone from the countertop, and handed it to Renee Winslow.
Renee Winslow took it, opened it, and found that Shay’s phone was also at a 2G signal, and the wifi was down too.
So it wasn’t only her phone having an issue, there was a signal problem in the house.
Renee Winslow called Jack Yates: "The internet at home is down, and there’s a signal issue too."
Jack Yates: "Yeah, I had someone temporarily block the network signal."
Renee Winslow: "Why?"
Jack Yates: "Aren’t you studying English? You need to focus when studying; if you study, do it properly."
Renee Winslow: "..."
Jack Yates: "To stop you from being distracted while reading, checking your phone now and then, so I cut the internet."
Renee Winslow: "..."
She really felt like cursing!
Jack Yates: "Be good, when I get back tonight, you can play on your phone for half an hour."
Renee Winslow gritted her teeth, "Don’t come back!"
After hanging up, Renee Winslow was so mad she wanted to smash her phone! But raising her hand, she gently placed it back on the sofa.
What Jack Yates said wasn’t wrong; she did need to clear her mind and concentrate on studying. After all, she wasn’t an English major; if she didn’t work hard, she might not pass the IELTS.
But clearly, Jack Yates’s actions weren’t to make her focus on reading; it felt more like he was covering something up.
But what could possibly require blocking the internet from her?
Probably just his engagement.
But didn’t they already talk about the engagement last night? What else was there to hide?
Renee Winslow couldn’t figure it out and didn’t bother to think further. Taking advantage of Shay cooking, she grabbed an English vocabulary dictionary and went outside, walking in the yard while reciting vocabulary.
What does it matter what Jack Yates is up to, she’s ready to leave anyway, just waiting for the right moment.
