Chapter 138: Chapter 108: Annihilation of the Pang Family, Overt and Covert Struggles

The head of the Pang family’s second uncle vanished, his mangled body twitching nonstop.

"Zhang Hongbo is here too. He’s probably just cannon fodder," Su Chen remarked, watching the body fall on the screen.

"I want to kill someone... I really want to kill someone!"

Bu Siqi’s eyes were crimson and shot with blood. Su Chen had thought this senior brother of his was a normal person, but now he found himself muttering under his breath.

’Where’s Pang Hui? And Pang Xingwen for that matter...’ Su Chen scanned the area, marveling at how perfectly Old Xia had timed his attack.

To show how much they valued him, the Pang Family’s entire leadership had seemingly gathered for the banquet.

"Pang Kuan, the Pang Family’s second-in-command..." Teng Liang glanced down at the corpse, then scanned the surroundings. "Where’s Pang Hui? Did he run?"

"Elder Xia is watching him. He can’t get away." Zhao Gang shook his head. The words had barely left his mouth when his gaze sharpened, fixed on a specific direction.

A slender figure emerged from the shadows.

"What crime has my Pang Family committed that the Judicial Court would seek to annihilate us!" Pang Hui’s eyes, fixed on the body on the ground, burned with a tangible fury. His cheeks twitched.

Zhao Gang opened his mouth, but he truly had no idea what was going on with the Pang Family.

"Colluding with the Deceitful God Sect with treasonous intent. For that crime alone, killing you ten times over wouldn’t be enough." Teng Liang’s voice was impassive, but his words sent a shiver through Zhao Gang, whose face turned even grimmer.

’So it’s finally come out...’ Pang Hui took a deep breath. Once he confirmed that this was the reason, he didn’t bother to argue. The Judicial Court had already made its move; arguing was pointless.

His thoughts couldn’t help but wander. Three hundred years ago, the Pang Family had produced a Chief Judge, bringing them a period of great prominence.

But the position of Chief Judge was constantly changing hands. The pie in Ying Feng, however, hadn’t grown much, and each new Chief Judge inevitably brought new people to carve out a slice.

The Pang Family fell into a gradual decline, to the point where its continued existence in Ying Feng was uncertain.

Until twenty years ago, when he met someone who claimed they could restore the Pang Family to its former glory.

He knew who that person was. But the Pang Family faced a choice: fade away into obscurity or take a gamble. He chose the latter.

"You want to destroy my Pang Family? Today, even the Judicial Court will have to lose a few teeth in the process!"

Pang Hui snapped back to the present. His pupils contracted to pinpricks and his spine arched like a bow. Two fleshy tumors bulged from his back, instantly transforming into a pair of wings wreathed in black fire.

He levitated into the air, his hair whipping wildly in the heatwave. Each strand, tipped with a burning black spark, seemed to absorb the surrounding light.

"A vice minister in the Inspectorate has to be at least a Tier Four Professional. While there are some Tier Five vice ministers, for someone from the Pang Family—a family that once produced a Chief Judge—it was a bit of a step down. The Judicial Court tried to get him to come back as a department chief several times, but he always refused..."

Bu Siqi, standing nearby, stared with wide, bloodshot eyes. "Looking at it now, he probably did it to make it more convenient for the Deceitful God Sect to operate in the city."

"Black Crow Flame Spirit, Tier Five Middle... With his wings manifested, his development should be in the later stages. I remember he only became a Tier Five Professional six or seven years ago. That’s incredibly fast."

Bu Siqi kept muttering, as if using the constant chatter to suppress some impulse within his body.

"...He’s actually Tier Five..." Su Chen was stunned. He could faintly feel a scorching heat as well.

He glanced at Xia Hanshi beside him. The old man said nothing, did nothing, and made no move to intervene. He simply watched.

BOOM!

Zhao Gang was instantly sent flying by the aftershock. His armor completely melted, and he scrambled out from within it, grimacing in pain. As the Deputy Chief of the Punishment Department, he was only a Tier Four Professional.

But it was his taciturn senior brother, Teng Liang, who truly opened Su Chen’s eyes.

"That’s... a little too big." He stared at the giant in his line of sight, which stood five or six meters tall, so large it had burst through the ceiling.

Its body cast a massive shadow, revealing muscles as gnarled as the roots of an ancient tree. Each bulging tendon shimmered with a cold, metallic light under the moon.

It could even withstand the black flames. And though it was still at a disadvantage, it was managing to hold its own.

"Ancient Spirit Giant..." Bu Siqi said, like a color commentator. "A Tier Five Top-tier Profession..."

"Tier Five Top-tier?" Su Chen looked over in astonishment.

"He forced the Profession change. Senior brother was making a life-or-death gamble at the time, so he decided to go for broke... Luckily, he succeeded." Bu Siqi’s voice trembled, and as he spoke, two sharp fangs poked out from behind his lips.

"He’s pretty strong..." Su Chen watched the fight. Black flames cascaded like waterfalls and their clashes roared like thunder. The containment perimeter was expanding as the Pang Family Mansion teetered on the verge of collapse.

In the distance, a crowd of onlookers had gathered. Although they were kept outside the battlefield, they pointed and gestured, their fear mixed with excitement.

Inspector Guards were already on the scene, conducting a more thorough evacuation and notifying their superiors.

And while Teng Liang was a Tier Five Top-tier, his Profession had been forced. He couldn’t develop it further, so for now, he could only fight Pang Hui to a standstill.

’Why hasn’t Old Xia made his move yet? What’s he waiting for?’

Su Chen glanced at the old man beside him. In the blink of an eye, he had vanished.

A sharp cry then erupted over the battlefield: "Stop!"

A terrifying pressure, an overwhelming life force, descended. Even from a great distance, Su Chen could feel it clearly.

A figure descended from the heavens, his expression grim. Water-like ripples emanated from him, and everyone—from the Judges and Judicial Guards to Pang Hui himself—was paralyzed by the pressure.

Wei Yinsuo’s brow twitched. He could already sense that there was almost no one left alive in the mansion below.

"Teacher!" Pang Hui immediately dropped to his knees, folding his wings and crying out in grief, "Please, you must help your student!"

Wei Yinsuo looked down on the crowd below, his voice frigid. "What exactly is going on here? Who’s in charge?! Zhao Gang!"

Zhao Gang flinched. Just as he was about to speak, he heard a familiar, raspy voice. "Old Four, so it really was you behind this."

"Xia Hanshi!?"

Wei Yinsuo’s expression changed. As if realizing something, he shot a vicious glare at the prostrate Pang Hui, who kept his head bowed without a word.

"It breaks my heart, it truly breaks my heart!" Xia Hanshi, also floating in mid-air, sighed mournfully. "You and I are both Chief Judges. I never thought it would one day come to us drawing blades on one another!"

"Wait!" Wei Yinsuo hastily cut in. "What is the meaning of this? Pang Hui is a Vice Minister of the Inspectorate, and the Pang Family has made many contributions to Ying Feng. Even if you were going to take action..."

Before he could finish, his words caught in his throat as if he were a strangled duck.

Xia Hanshi flicked his withered hand, and a leather scroll bearing five red seals appeared before him. He flashed a sinister, chilling smile.

"An Elder Council Order! The Pang Family has colluded with the Deceitful God Sect and is to be executed in accordance with the law!"

Colluding with the Deceitful God Sect!

Wei Yinsuo’s pupils contracted. A surge of fury rose in his heart as he shot a cold glare at the kneeling Pang Hui. "Pang Hui, you’re courting death!"

With an Elder Council Order, the evidence was all but confirmed.

"Still acting..." Xia Hanshi said, retracting the Elder Council Order.

"You colluded with the Deceitful God Sect! No one can save you!" Wei Yinsuo raged.

"Keep up the act..." Xia Hanshi shook his head. "You dare say you knew nothing? This is your favorite student, after all."

"I..." Wei Yinsuo felt like he was about to cough up blood. A wave of panic rose in his heart. He didn’t know if Xia Hanshi was deliberately trying to frame him, or if the Elder Council truly believed he was involved.

"Teacher, you can’t abandon me!" Pang Hui cried out, suddenly lifting his head from the ground.

"Wretch!" Wei Yinsuo trembled with rage. He was about to strike when another sonic boom echoed from the horizon. The newcomer was moving so fast they left a vapor cone in their wake.

"Wei Yinsuo! Xia Hanshi!"

The newcomer skidded to a halt, kicking up fierce gusts of wind. He was a man with a full black beard, his eyes wide with fury. "What do you two think you’re doing?!"

"To take action within the city without informing my Inspectorate... Hm? Pang Hui!?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

He froze when he saw the man kneeling on the ground.
