My Roleplay System-Chapter 233 - 333: Demon King (2)
The stadium was alive with noise and chatter. Many of the onlookers watching the screen had been left in a state of deep shock, unable to utter a word, but once the initial shock had dissipated, their voices did not die down.
In a corner of the stadium, many guild representatives were busy contacting and coordinating with their members back at the office who were watching the stream. Everyone was prepared to analyze the battle footage in real time.
On the screen, the Demon King—Lake—stared at the startled students from across the hall, a heartless smirk on his face.
[Holy shit. It’s here. The Mage has finally made his appearance!]
[Just when I was starting to think he wouldn’t show up...]
[This is it! This is what I was waiting for!]
[Popcorn already prepared.]
The reaction online was even more absurd, with thousands of messages popping up each minute.
[To think he was the Demon King, just what is the academy thinking?]
[Heh, lol. Is this even meant to be a challenge?]
[I mean, I know he’s strong, but isn’t this a bit too much?]
[Is he being punished? I heard he pulled some pretty crazy stunts this semester.]
[Down with the haters! Don’t doubt the Mage!]
["Heh, with one spell I’ll blow you all away!" - The Demon King.]
Needless to say, the online community was thrown into a frenzied discussion.
"This is the worst..."
Back in the castle, most of the students raised their weapons while nervously stepping back.
The first years especially instantly shrunk back the moment Lake got off the throne, while some of the second years managed to stay steady.
Only the third years seemed relatively relaxed. They were usually out on missions and didn’t have time to pay attention to the first-year student causing trouble everywhere, unlike Gwen and her team.
Sylph in particular looked particularly startled. She was standing behind everyone but her eyes seemed to cut a path through the crowd, landing directly on Lake. In an instant, memories of what happened over the past few days flashed through her mind as her eyes started to water slightly.
"...Just why?"
Her inner emotions were thrown into turmoil as she tried to piece together what was going on.
"What do we do now?"
Despite the tension, there were still a few students who managed to regain their calm as they turned to Kate for further instructions.
Noticing their gaze, she couldn’t help but bite her lip as she tried to rack her brain to figure out a solution to the current dilemma. However, each strategy she came up with was easily crushed by one of that demon’s numerous abilities. Just then, a notification played on everyone’s wristwatch as a holographic screen appeared in front of them.
[Detected the defeat of the Ghost of the Dungeon. Demon King’s Presence Erasure Skill has been sealed.]
[Detected the defeat of the Great Nymph. Demon King’s Command Skill has been sealed.] 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
[Detected the defeat of the Sage. Demon King’s Magic has been sealed.]
[All Three Horsemen have been defeated. The Demon King has been greatly weakened!]
Kate stared wide-eyed at the notifications. She had almost forgotten about the weakening effect of the previous trial.
"Wait..!"
Listening to the notification that echoed through the castle, many students were stunned into a daze. They all focused on one fact.
"His magic...is sealed?"
"Greatly weakened..."
"Doesn’t that mean...heh, haha."
Suddenly, the students’ original nervousness seemed to have vanished, their eyes shining like predators that had spotted their prey.
Outside the exam, unlike the students joyful mood, the viewers were more skeptical, with many of them questioning the academy’s thought process.
[Is this really just a free pass?]
[No magic? That’s not my mage.]
[If you seal so many of his abilities, how is he supposed to fight back?]
[With his fist, duh.]
[1 vs 100.]
They were all questioning the legitimacy of this final battle, with many stating that it seemed to anticlimactic.
"Don’t get careless!"
Kate’s voice echoed throughout the hall, snapping everyone back into focus. "Remember, even without his magic or abilities, his physical strength is at least at the level of a Peak Martial Warrior!"
Her words were like a wake-up call to most of the students, as they recalled the long bloody nights out in the field. Back then, he also didn’t use magic...
A somber and resolute mood began to settle in the atmosphere.
Kate’s eyes remained locked on Lake, who simply stood on the opposite side of the hall, a subtle smile on his face. Just then, his eyes met hers.
His smile seemed to deepen as he took his first step down from the throne.
"Pestilent fools. Daring to invade my castle. Do you really think you bunch of nobodies could stop me?"
His words were filled with arrogance and mockery, a tone of voice nobody had ever heard from him before, yet fitting for his current title of Demon King.
His palms crackled with power as he clenched his fist, raw mana bursting forth from his body. His steps did not slow down or speed up as he closed the gap between them.
"Focus! Stick to the strategy for now. Third years, prepare to engage!"
Despite the earlier confusion, everyone still reliably fell into formation.
The third years took to the front, followed by the second years and first years.
"Archers! Ready! Wide!"
Students drew their ranged weaponry, ranging from bows to throwables such as spears, rocks, and daggers.
Lake barely cast them a glance but did not stop his steps, the distance between them now less than fifty meters.
"Fire!"
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Dozens of projectiles whipped through the air at incredible speeds, their range spread out wide, leaving no chance to escape.
Seeing the approaching storm, Lake made a clawing motion with his hand as mana seemed to condense around it.
"HAH!"
With a loud shout, he swung his arm upwards, causing a powerful wind barrier to form right in front of him. The flying projectiles that came into contact with this force were thrown off course, creating a gap just narrow enough for him to fit through.
With the rain of arrows failing, the students did not panic and quickly adapted.
"Engage!"
With that final shout, the army of a hundred students rushed the Demon King.
Seeing this, all he did was smirk.
"Come! Face your end!"
