My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 1999: Terrifying Brainstorm
"No...it’s nothing, you don’t need to worry." Yiyi didn’t want her fragile foster mother to worry unnecessarily before anything was confirmed. Her brows furrowed; it seemed that she had to investigate through other channels, and she needed to act quickly.
Just as she was about to hang up the phone, Madam Aisha let out a sound of surprise, as if she suddenly remembered something.
"Oh, I did hear a bit of gossip. I accidentally overheard two ladies serving the Queen in the palace discussing in hushed voices. They seemed to say that the Queen hasn’t been well for the past few days, got sick, and even privately invited a very famous doctor for treatment."
Yiyi stopped breathing, her eyes widened, realizing this was an unusually significant piece of news, something that might trigger a dramatic political change, her mood inevitably grew tense.
"Did you hear what illness the Queen is suffering from?"
"No, but to invite such a renowned doctor, the illness must be serious. Just that, before now, there hadn’t been any news of the Queen being unwell, the illness seems to have come quite suddenly!" Madam Aisha was puzzled.
Yiyi’s gaze darkened, instantly becoming sharp.
This unexpected news made her think of many possibilities.
First possibility, the Queen suddenly fell ill because she’d been having health issues for a long time but deliberately kept them hidden. She was worried the Councilman Party would use this to weaken her power, so she didn’t let the outside world know until now, unable to conceal her illness.
The second possibility is that the Queen has always been healthy, but suddenly fell ill, perhaps someone tampered with her and caused her serious illness, which would be a severe palace conspiracy.
But no matter the situation, it’s clear that with the Queen now sick, it is greatly disadvantageous for the Queen’s party; the Councilman is an old fox, cunning and deceitful, having maneuvered in politics for years. Would he miss the opportunity of the Queen’s weakness?
Such a great opportunity might prompt him to do everything possible to weaken the Queen’s power, even to take control of the palace and place the Queen under house arrest, imposing his authority in the guise of royal command!
This was still her relatively less dark speculation; if the Councilman were more ruthless, he might even kill the Queen, find an excuse saying the Queen died from illness, and then overthrow the monarchy, which would be even more terrifying!
Yiyi shuddered, startled by her own horrifying imagination, goosebumps rising.
Yet she didn’t think she was being overly conspiratorial; in this world, for the sake of obtaining ultimate power, there are even more terrifying plots and schemes. Politicians, when their hearts are exposed, reveal a world of darkness, capable of unimaginable brutality.
If news of the Queen’s illness is true, there is indeed a high possibility that the scenarios she envisaged would come to pass.
It seems that not long from now, chaos will begin to unfold in the Imperial City, surely there will be a blatant or clandestine military, administrative, or political coup, sweeping through the city.
Yiyi grew anxious at this thought, but she didn’t care who would come to power in this country.
Clearly, however, the fall of the Queen would be bad for her and Madam Aisha; after all, both she and Madam Aisha had ties to Governor Yun. Governor Yun was a valuable ally of the Queen, giving his all to help the Queen counter the Councilman, it was practically suicidal.
If the Queen were to die, remnants of the Queen’s party would likely become targets for elimination by the Councilman’s faction. Though in this modern society, she and Madam Aisha, as family members, might not be publicly arrested and convicted and thrown into prison, there’s no guarantee that clandestine punishments wouldn’t be imposed to make their lives miserable.
