My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin-Chapter 50: Medicine
Everyone could only hold their breath, standing stiffly at the side of the room. All eyes were on Lucian, sensing the heavy aura emanating from the big boss of Dominion.
Lucian sat right beside Primo’s bed; his silence was more deafening than any internal scream echoing in everyone’s heads at that moment.
Primo, on the other hand, remained on the bed, staring at his father just as sternly.
"Primo." Finally, Lucian broke the prolonged silence, his voice low and commanding. "Drink your medicine."
From what the doctor had said, it was just a simple viral infection—manageable. However, Primo was making it difficult for everyone by refusing to take medicine or be cared for. No one could even get close to him as he threw a tantrum.
He wouldn’t even hydrate.
It was the reason Lucian had rushed back, as Nolan had no choice but to call the big boss. But even with Lucian present, Primo remained stubborn.
"Take this now," Lucian said, picking up the small cup. "If you want to get better, then you have to—"
SLAP!
Before Lucian could finish, Primo’s small hand shot out, knocking the cup away.
The moment everyone saw the young master’s action, their breaths hitched, eyes widening. But instead of feeling guilty, Primo simply glared at his father as if Lucian had wronged him.
As for Lucian, the air around him dropped. His eyes iced over, a layer of frost settling within them, clearly displeased by Primo’s stubbornness.
"What did I do to upset you?" Lucian asked, his voice cold and harsh. "Do you not want to get better?"
"..."
Primo pressed his lips into a thin line, lowering his head slightly before lifting his gaze again. He didn’t answer. He didn’t shake his head or nod—just stared back at Lucian.
For a moment longer, the father and son locked eyes.
The aura emanating from both of them was suffocating, as if they intended to smother everyone present without lifting a hand.
Nolan quietly glanced between the two before stepping forward.
"Young Master, I know the medicine doesn’t taste good," Nolan said gently. "However, you have to take it. You need it—and water as well."
But alas, the only response Nolan received was Primo grabbing the tray at the bedside and shoving everything off.
The glass shattered, the tray clanged, and the medicine spilled. The sounds overlapped, echoing sharply through the room.
Everyone gasped, while the child care team looked horrified and overwhelmed.
But Lucian remained unfazed, simply watching his son’s tantrum. Even without saying a word, Primo made one thing clear: he didn’t want the medicine, he didn’t intend to listen, and he rejected everything being forced on him.
"Will you be like this no matter what?" Lucian asked after another stretch of silence.
This time, he caught the brief flicker of hesitation in Primo’s eyes, but it vanished just as quickly. The boy met his father’s gaze without fear.
If one didn’t know better, they wouldn’t think Primo had a fever at all.
With how fiercely he resisted, it was hard to believe he was even sick. But at this point, everyone was used to it.
Although clearly, this was the first time Primo had held his ground against his father for this long.
He would usually give in... but with conditions.
"Fine," Lucian nodded slightly, resting his hands on the armrest before pushing himself up.
A glint flickered in his eyes as he turned to Nolan, about to give an order when suddenly...
"Huh?"
The frustration on Lucian’s face vanished instantly as he turned toward the source of the voice.
Not just him, but everyone in the room instinctively snapped their heads in the same direction.
At the doorway, peeking her head in, was Ashley.
Almost everyone’s expressions soured.
What is she doing here?
Can’t she pick a better time?
Is she really this clueless to walk in right now?
Why did she have to go here now? To cause trouble?
Even Nolan frowned at the sight of her, but Ashley simply smiled, noticing everyone standing stiffly in place.
"Oh? Primo?" she intoned, spotting Lucian as well, taking the chance to step inside. "How are you feeling now?"
"Master—" Nolan began, turning to Lucian, only for the latter to raise a hand.
Ashley clasped her hands behind her back and paused upon noticing the mess on the floor—the shattered glass, the tray, the spilled water, the medicine.
"Huh? What happened here?" she asked, glancing between Primo and Lucian.
Lucian didn’t answer, but Nolan did.
"It just spilled, Madam," Nolan said quickly, covering for Primo, even though he knew it was pointless.
"Oh..." Ashley nodded, smacking her lips lightly before looking back at Primo. She tiptoed forward and perched herself at the edge of the bed.
"Madam—" Nolan reached out, panicking. This wasn’t a good time to approach the young master.
But it was too late. Ashley had already taken her seat.
To everyone’s surprise, Primo didn’t push her away. He didn’t even attempt to move. He simply stayed still.
Ashley tilted her head. "Did you drink the medicine like a don?"
"..." Primo pressed his lips together, making her raise a brow.
"Ah, Madam, the young master was about to take it, but it slipped," Nolan added, once again covering for him. "We’re getting a new one."
At that, Nolan shot a discreet look at one of the maids. The maid stiffened, then quickly nodded and rushed out to fetch another dose, despite knowing it would likely end the same way.
"Ahh..." Ashley nodded, then smiled at Primo.
Then, suddenly, she reached out to him.
Seeing her hand, Nolan had the urge to scream and stop her. But the words were stuck in his throat.
Even Lucian held his breath, expecting her hand to be slapped away. Instead, her hand landed gently on Primo’s head.
She stroked his hair safely, her smile soft.
"Primo, get better soon, okay?" she hummed, worry evident in her eyes. "I don’t like it when you’re sick. It’s not fun when you’re like this."
To everyone’s shock, Primo lowered his head slightly... and nodded.
"Good boy," she smiled in relief, just as the maid returned with a fresh dose. "Oh, time to drink—"
Ashley paused when Primo suddenly clutched her sleeve, stopping her from moving away.
She looked back at him. Around them, mouths dropped open even wider.
"Nolan, Lu, can I make him drink his medicine?" she asked.
Nolan opened his mouth, closed it, then turned to Lucian, who simply nodded.
"Nice!" Ashley chirped, turning back to Primo. "Primo, do you want to know a trick to drink medicine without tasting it?"
Primo tilted his head slightly, watching her as her smile widened.
Everyone could only stare in stunned silence as Ashley measured the dosage and handed him the cup.
Primo took it without resistance.
At her signal, he drank it in one go.
"What in the world..." one of the child care team whispered. "She made him drink it... just like that?"
It was that easy?!
Why was he acting like a suspicious emperor with them, as if they were trying to poison him, yet obedient now?
Their stunned gazes shifted to Ashley, who simply smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Good job, Primo."
