My Servant System-Chapter 1570 - 1569: It’ll Never Be ’Easy’
Since it still took a few minutes for Kavya to reach us, Anput held me close as we stared out the window, observing the oncoming hordes of monsters and taking this moment to just... be up front about everything that was happening.
Her hands were always near my stomach, and since we had stopped so suddenly I could tell she was holding back very hard to not just suddenly have me help soothe her throbbing ’ache’ in the ways that had resulted in what was currently keeping me stuck in our home.
Even with her current physical ’ailment’ the Jackalkin was more than capable of restraining herself since she too was feeling a bit... irritated by the current circumstances, yet despite not having the same ’restrictions’ that I had - the Soul Bond but also the bond between us as mates - she was stuck here too.
"Monsters are dangerous, yes, but with all of the Demons we have here plus both of them, there is nothing to worry about Kat..."
Her murmur was meant to reassure not only myself but also herself, something I could tell simply by how her arms stiffened around me as she rubbed her cheek idly against my shoulder, seeking some comfort from this situation.
"Yet here we are, adding to their risk by being up here while they are down there..."
"We have to be here, Kat, because whilst they can handle themselves and one another, us being down there means their attention will forever be split between what is in front of them and then what we are doing."
I let out a long sigh before murmuring "I know, Anput... I just... I just hate it, so Goddess damned much...", earning myself a soft kiss on the cheek as she hummed in agreement; when she resumed stroking my belly she whispered "Some things are just that valuable though Kat... You might not be able to ’see’ it just yet, but that’s why Jahi was the way she was."
Another sigh escaped my lips since I didn’t want to ’argue’ with her over this, since what she was saying was something that I understood and agreed with, yet it didn’t mean I couldn’t feel these contradictory emotions at the same time.
That was just one of the many parts about being mortal, and in this situation it was simply something that I couldn’t avoid no matter how logical I wanted to be about any of this, because everything about this situation made me very emotional and as such, ’illogical’.
Kavya arrived not long after, knocking on the door and entering when Anput shouted for her to just come in, and soon enough we were joined on the ground by the older Beliali Demoness, her eyes resting on the hordes for a few moments before she gave us a wry smile.
"If you two weren’t pregnant this would call for a glass of wine~! Take a knife to the melancholy up here and serve it with some cheese, maybe~?"
I couldn’t help but chuckle at that since our current atmosphere here wasn’t that ’good’, and as such the tension could be felt by anyone that stepped inside; it wasn’t something that we could help though since we were watching our home get attacked, and there was nothing we could do to be of help... 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Well, I say this simply because leaving us in silence sounds utterly dreadful, but this is something that you, Lady Katherine, might need to start getting accustomed to if things continue the way they are. Unless you happen to find yourselves a nanny that you trust, I imagine someone will be with the little ones at all times, which..."
She waved her hand loosely at the window before giving me a small smile when she watched the realization dawn on me, though Anput hugged me tight for a moment and said "It won’t be just Kat with the babies though... Three of us should be able to help nurture them at any given time and then the ’Mom’ of our family will need to figure out a system that works best for us."
"That is a lot~ of pressure you’ll be putting upon Lady Jahi’s shoulders though~! But that is for you and your family to decide. Either way, this feeling... it will never fully go away, but you can make use of it. Remember how this feels and work for a way to lessen it the next time it comes around. I heard you are quite the Enchantress~?"
Kavya gave me a smile before adding "Sometimes that is all you can hope to do. I know that Bakari used to hate how I had to be in the frontlines every single time something happened, and after us getting rapidly aged things never really got easier, for either of us. I know the feeling is what I’m trying to say."
"Ah, speaking of, if you don’t mind me asking I was always curious about you and Bakari... That just never seemed to be something that seemed like it would take off, at least from afar..? Or is this just a case of opposites attract?"
"Now you really~ make me want to have a wineglass, Lady Anput~!"
Kavya’s laugh and her relaxed posture was very much welcome here, and admittedly the question was one I had as well, so when she decided to start telling us the story it helped get my mind off of what was going on down there and more on her.
"Well, the thing about the Clans is that we’re sort of told from an early age that we should prioritize picking someone from the other Clan first when it comes to relationships. Try to stick to our own kind since we already know about our own quirks.
Having that drilled into your head as a Beliali means trying to woo and impress the quieter and more reserved Cimeriesa’s, and as a result things get a little fierce. You’ve seen Bakari; handsome, quiet, scholarly... for us Beliali Demonesses that was just the sort of man we wanted. Pliable but reliable, y’know?
Bakari didn’t want any of us at first, which pissed us all off quite a bit since... well, how come he’s got that sort of audacity when we were practically throwing ourselves at him? Since he was so overwhelmed, I had the idea to just start knocking heads and playing matchmaker for my friends, until eventually no one was really paying attention to Bakari anymore.
Fun thing about that, he told me he actually liked the attention but was too shy to say anything about it~! Thought that was funny, but it did piss me off a bit since he started looking at all my friends again... all that hard work of mine almost swept away because all Cimeriesa’s are utter imbeciles socially..."
She clicked her tongue and gave us both a glance before smirking when she noticed how intrigued we were, and when Anput asked "Wait, he wanted the attention after he lost it? I didn’t think men even really noticed that sort of thing..?", making Kavya laugh as she shrugged in reply.
Storytime with Kavya about her love life whilst people fought and bled down below... it felt somewhat morbid when the thought crossed my mind, but then she began to talk more about it and forced me to pay attention, because now I was genuinely curious...
