My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 26: Looking for The Student Council Replacement
After giving his statement to the police, Dennis suggested they head back to their apartment, but Daisy insisted on going to the student council office instead. Dennis felt forced to follow along; even though he was trying his best not to suspect Daisy number three, his gut feeling remained, growing even stronger than before he tried to suppress it. As they walked through the hallway toward the office, Dennis glanced at Daisy, who was still hugging her watermelon, her face so calm it was as if nothing was happening around them.
"So, what are you going to do with that watermelon? You said earlier you wanted to get back at Charlie by smashing his head with it," Dennis said.
"Oh, this? Let’s just all eat it together. We’ll slice it up with a sword later in the council office," Daisy number three replied, relaxed and composed.
"I see. That’s fine with me," Dennis said.
"Who would’ve thought, right? Charlie was actually the son of the leader of the Crimson Cross, a pretty famous and large gang in this city," Daisy mused casually.
"That’s how it goes. I only found out this morning from Mario and Franky... hopefully, no trouble comes their way now that Charlie is gone," Dennis replied.
"Don’t worry, they aren’t gang members. They were just following Charlie because they were being paid, but it didn’t go beyond that. I think they’ll be just fine," Daisy replied casually.
"I hope you’re right," Dennis answered.
"Hey, you guys!"
Dennis and Daisy turned around. They saw Jason and Kimberly running toward them, so Dennis and Daisy stopped to wait for their two friends. Then, they all started walking together.
"Oh, you’re heading to the council office too, Daisy?" Kimberly asked.
"Yeah, you too, right?" Daisy asked back.
"Yep, might as well go together. Olivia is probably already there. The whole school was sent home because of what happened," Kimberly answered.
"How long do you think we’ll be off? Is this school going to turn into a gang war zone?" Jason asked.
"I hope nothing like that happens. It wouldn’t be good if a gang war broke out," Dennis answered stiffly.
"Ha... says the guy who challenged the school’s varsity team all by himself yesterday," Jason teased, nudging Dennis with his elbow.
"That was yesterday, and besides... I was high on weed yesterday, remember," Dennis said, nudging Jason back.
The two of them laughed, though Dennis continued to observe his own wife because his bad feeling wouldn’t go away. When they reached the council office, Kimberly opened the door and they walked in. It turned out Gary, Olivia, and three people Dennis didn’t know—one girl and two guys—were already waiting. "Thud," Daisy placed her watermelon on the table, making everyone turn to look.
"You brought a watermelon to school?" Olivia asked.
"Yep, bought it at the market earlier. I also picked this up, the president’s order from yesterday," Daisy number three answered while taking a wrapped book from under her shirt and placing it on the table right next to the watermelon.
A beautiful girl with tan skin and jet-black hair stepped forward to take the package. She opened it and immediately smiled when she saw the books inside, which turned out to be a comic and a novel.
"Wow... thanks, Daisy. I didn’t think you’d go through the trouble of getting these for me," she said, showing off the books she held with her ringed fingers.
"You’re welcome, Naomi. Glad I could help," Daisy replied to Naomi, the student council president.
"Hmm... you still like buying that stuff, huh? Just wasting money," a bald, dark-skinned, and muscular young man interjected.
"Don’t be a grouch, babe," Naomi said. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Give it a rest, Blake, leave your wife alone. So, who are you guys?" said a handsome, blonde, fair-skinned young man, looking toward Dennis and Jason, who were standing frozen by the door alongside Gary, who had apparently already been introduced by Olivia.
Without further ado, Daisy immediately introduced Dennis as her husband, and Kimberly introduced Jason as hers. The man who asked turned out to be Travis, the council secretary. Beside him was Blake, the vice president, and Naomi, the president and Blake’s wife. Naomi, Blake, and Travis were all 12th graders—seniors to Dennis and the others—who were technically supposed to have retired from the council, but there were no replacements yet because no one wanted the jobs. The temporary candidates for their positions, to whom they were delegating their duties, were Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly.
After the introductions, every eye in the room landed on the round watermelon sitting on the table.
"Well... how about we slice this up and eat it together?" Travis suggested.
"Yep, that’s the plan," Daisy number three replied happily.
"Alright, let me cut it for you," Blake said, standing up.
Blake walked toward the watermelon. He was about the same height as Dennis and Gary. He stared at the fruit on the table, took it out of its net, and set it back down. Then, with a sudden "tap," he struck the center of the watermelon with a palm-edge chop. "Crack," the watermelon split perfectly in two.
"There, go ahead and slice it up," Blake said with a smile.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason were stunned, watching Blake effortlessly split a watermelon with his bare hands while looking completely relaxed. Then Blake turned his attention to Dennis.
"You went to my class yesterday, didn’t you? Challenged Ivan and the others, wanted to take them on solo? I wasn’t there myself, but I heard the story—a big 11th grader with long hair, the candidate to replace the school’s varsity team. I’ve gotta admit, you’ve got guts, and maybe you’re a little crazy," Blake said, looking at Dennis with a smile.
Hearing Blake’s words, Gary, Olivia, Kimberly, Travis, Naomi, and even Daisy—who actually already knew—all turned to look at Dennis. Only Jason stood there shaking his head. Blake then extended his hand toward Dennis, intending to shake. Dennis, unable to come up with much of an answer, raised his hand to meet the handshake.
"Sorry, senior, I’d smoked way too much weed yesterday. Normally, I’m not actually that brave," Dennis said with a grin.
"What... since when do you smoke weed?" Daisy shouted, shocked and more than a little annoyed.
Jason immediately rushed over to Daisy and whispered something in her ear. She began nodding her head, though her eyes kept darting back to Dennis. Then, Daisy turned to look at Jason with a pout.
"So you’re the reason, huh?" Daisy number three asked.
"Sorry. There was no other way, and that was the only thing I could think of," Jason answered.
"You’re something else, man. You had me totally fooled just now, too," Gary added, having overheard the whole thing.
"Give me a break. Your brain is seriously only filled with that stuff," Olivia chimed in.
"Oh, drop it. He’s the one who saved Dennis from the lion’s den, so you all should probably be thanking my man," Kimberly shot back, clearly standing up for her husband.
After that, they all sat down together to enjoy the watermelon and discuss the incident that had just unfolded—the shooting of Charlie in the classroom by an unknown sniper. Dennis, who had been fighting his gut instinct this entire time, finally managed to swallow his doubts; he truly didn’t suspect Daisy number three anymore. As the conversation continued, Naomi, Blake, and Travis asked Dennis, Gary, and Jason to take over their positions on the student council.
However, their three wives immediately shot the idea down. Their reasoning was simple: Dennis, Gary, and Jason’s academic grades were a total disaster, and they had way too much catching up to do with their studies to ever have time for student council work.
"Sigh... it really is hard to find replacements," Travis said dejectedly.
"Hang in there, man. Someone will show up eventually," Blake replied, patting Travis on the shoulder.
"Hmm... do you guys have any other candidates in mind?" Naomi asked Daisy, Kimberly, and Olivia.
They all went silent, thinking hard to come up with other candidates they knew. The room fell quiet, save for the sound of everyone enjoying the crisp watermelon in their hands. After a few moments, Dennis raised his hand, and every face in the room turned toward him.
"How about appointing some 10th graders as council members? I happen to know four people who might be willing," Dennis suggested.
"Oh... do you mean the twins and their two husbands?" Daisy number three asked, turning to look at Dennis beside her.
"Yep, exactly," Dennis answered.
"Hmm... it’s worth a shot. What are their names? I’ll try to reach out to them," Naomi replied.
Finally, Dennis and Daisy wrote down the names of Mario, Viola, Franky, and Fiona on a piece of paper, along with the classes they were in. They handed it over to Naomi, Blake, and Travis, whose faces seemed to hold a new glimmer of hope. As for Dennis, he figured Mario, Viola, Franky, and Fiona would definitely be safer if they joined the student council because they would be protected by the school, so they wouldn’t become targets for the members of Charlie’s father’s gang.
