My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 28: Aftermath
That night, after returning to the apartment and finishing dinner, Daisy went into the bedroom to rest. Dennis, who was washing the dishes, utensils, and mugs in the kitchen, kept thinking hard; he was still worried about the fate of Mario, Viola, Franky, and Fiona, who had been captured, and there was still no word on their rescue. His hands kept moving, washing the plates, even though his face looked blank and his eyes were fixed on the dish in his hand, as if hoping it could provide an answer to the questions in his mind.
"Clack," after placing the last plate on the rack, Dennis’s eyes drifted toward his smartphone on the table. He dried his hands and picked it up, walking toward the sofa while reopening the message. He read the text sent from Fiona’s phone—the one the kidnappers used to threaten him. His finger hovered over the on-screen keyboard, ready to reply, but just as his fingertip was about to touch it, he pulled back and changed his mind.
Now his finger moved as if to press the call button, but just like before, he hesitated and stopped himself. Finally, he set the smartphone down on the coffee table and clenched both his fists until they trembled.
"This is infuriating. For the first time in my life, I’m in a position like this—completely powerless. I want to act, but I’m afraid of messing everything up... and I clearly can’t just give up like I used to when I’d stop trying because there was no way out. My head is spinning right now; it feels truly awful to be in this position," Dennis muttered to himself, looking down and clenching his fists so hard they trembled and his knuckles turned white.
Finally, he picked up the remote and turned on the television to watch whatever movie happened to be on, even though he didn’t actually want to watch anything. Suddenly, a shadow flickered past him and "blugh," Daisy number four—the one with cat ears, short hair, and a tail—landed in his lap, facing him. Daisy number four held a smartphone and immediately shoved the screen in front of Dennis’s face.
Dennis’s eyes widened as he saw a photo of a warehouse exit swarmed by police and medical personnel. They were coming out with Mario, Viola, Franky, and Fiona, whose bodies were wrapped in towels; all four appeared to be safe. Dennis took the phone from Daisy’s hand and swiped through the photos, seeing the process of the four hostages being helped by the police until the medics arrived. Then he checked the sender’s name: Naomi. He looked directly at Daisy number four, who was now hugging him from the front with a wide grin.
"Naomi saved them by calling the police?" Dennis asked.
"Hmm... yep. After that, there are no photos of the criminals being arrested, right? Because the bad guys were already handled by Blake, her husband," Daisy number four answered.
"Huh... what do you mean handled? Who are they exactly? Does Naomi have connections with the police or the military or something?" Dennis asked, curious.
"Hmm... just think of it like that. Don’t worry your head about it, sugar. The main thing is our four juniors are safe, right? Now read the bottom part," Daisy number four said.
Dennis went back to reading the chat on Daisy’s screen, which showed a message history between Daisy and Naomi from an hour ago. The chat stated that Mario, Viola, Franky, and Fiona had agreed to join the student council and were willing to become Blake and Naomi’s subordinates outside of school—though it didn’t explain in what capacity or for what organization.
The rest of the chat was just Naomi venting about still waiting for Blake to come home. Right now, Blake was out drinking with his crew to celebrate, watching a game at some bar, which left Naomi fuming all by herself back at the apartment.
Dennis, still curious, lowered the smartphone and turned to look at Daisy number four, but just as he opened his mouth to ask a question, suddenly "smooch," Daisy number four silenced him with a passionate kiss. It was as if she wouldn’t let Dennis ask anything else, simply because she couldn’t be bothered to find the right answers to give him. After they finished and broke the kiss, Dennis stared at Daisy number four in front of him.
"Hey... why are you out now? Is it already your turn?" Dennis asked.
"Yep, it’s my turn now. We’re going to have fun until tomorrow night. It’s perfect since we’ll be home all day tomorrow for remote learning," Daisy number four answered happily.
"Hmm... there hasn’t been an official notice from the school yet, has there?" Dennis replied.
"There has. Haven’t you checked your email yet?" Daisy number four asked.
Dennis immediately grabbed his smartphone, and it turned out Daisy number four was right. There was an official email from the school stating that, starting tomorrow, classes would transition to remote learning until a later date was determined. The email even included links for the online classrooms, organized by grade, which would be accessible starting tomorrow morning.
As it turned out, the email had been sent two hours ago, exactly while they were having dinner.
"Oh, you’re right... I was so wrapped up in my own head that I didn’t even notice the notification for the incoming email," Dennis muttered while staring at his phone screen.
"Yep, everything’s calm now, right? They’re safe, so there’s no need to worry anymore," Daisy number four replied, her tone light and relaxed.
"You’re right," Dennis replied, wrapping his arms around Daisy’s waist and kissing her as she sat on his lap.
After breaking their kiss, Daisy number four moved to sit beside Dennis and leaned against him, resting her head on his shoulder. Dennis responded by putting his arm around her, and they began watching a drama film about criminal cases and court trials. However, a few moments later, Dennis heard the sound of typing next to him.
He glanced over and saw Daisy number four typing on a holographic keyboard, with an interface screen visible in front of her face. What Daisy number four was typing was a series of incredibly complex code, and of course, he had no idea what that coding was actually for.
Suddenly, Daisy stopped typing and turned her head to look at Dennis, who was pretending to watch the television.
"Hmm... sugar, can you see what’s in front of me? Be honest," Daisy number four asked.
"Yeah, what are you typing those codes for?" Dennis asked while turning his head to look at Daisy’s face.
"Oh, this? I’m opening a new bank account for us. I’m too lazy to go wait in line just to open one. I’ll head over there tomorrow to pick up the book and the card, or maybe I’ll just have them sent... I’ll see what my mood is like tomorrow," Daisy answered.
"Wait, why open another account? Don’t we already have a joint account?" Dennis asked.
"This one is specifically for receiving income from the school. I’ve stopped working, and the others have stopped too. We’re all focusing on being hunters now. This account is for all of us, so I can close the others," Daisy explained.
"Oh, so when you say ’us,’ you mean you and everyone else inside. I thought you meant just the two of us," Dennis remarked.
"Yep, sorry sugar, I sometimes forget to explain. I’ll get back to work for just a bit," Daisy number four said while shifting to lean closer against Dennis’s chest, resting her head there.
"Yeah, go ahead. Don’t mind me," Dennis said, putting his arm around Daisy’s shoulder.
Daisy immediately went back to typing beside him, while Dennis returned to watching the show in peace. However, inside Daisy’s head, in the Council of Daisies room:
"Huaah," the voices of numbers one, two, three, five, six, and seven let out a collective sigh of relief.
"Sorry... sorry, I had to make sure whether he could see what we’re doing or not, right? Relax, he doesn’t understand it. I told him we’re opening an account and he believed it without asking more," number four said.
"I told you already, he knew when I opened my dimensional storage and saw my alchemy process, which ordinary people aren’t supposed to be able to see... why didn’t you believe me?" number five asked.
"My bad, I was just making sure. I’ll be careful from now on," number four answered.
"Fine then. So, what’s the status? Have all our tracks in the underworld been erased yet?" number six asked.
"I’m working on it right now, have some patience," number four replied.
"Okay, the important thing is everything must be clean. We can’t have our husband hearing things from outside sources. Even though we’re friends with Naomi and Blake, we still can’t trust them one hundred percent, right?" number one said.
"True. So we have to wipe every trace of our work from the past year, so we don’t get exploited by someone connecting the dots back to us," number two said.
"Right... right," number three added while nodding.
"Don’t worry, I’ve created a program to track everything and delete it instantly. If it can’t be deleted, it’ll be diverted, and we’ll double-check it together later. Now, I’m going to have some fun... don’t bother me... bye-bye," number four said before disappearing.
The atmosphere turned silent. After number four vanished and headed back out, no one spoke at all.
"Oh well, let her have her fun. She deserves some love from our husband too, right?" number seven said.
"True. After all, if she starts getting intimate with our husband, we’ll all feel the same pleasure. So yeah... just wait for it. Knowing number four, she won’t be satisfied with just one round; looks like tonight is going to be a long, hot night," number six said.
Not long after, the room began to shake, and there was the sensation of hands grazing their bodies, their lips becoming wet, and their tongues moving.
"Okay, it’s starting," they all said.
