Chapter 58: Someone Crossed The Line

Dennis kept trying to reject the calls from Bella, who was calling him without stopping, until he finally set his ringtone to vibrate. After that, he just gripped the smartphone in his hand as it continued to buzz, all while looking at Brad, who was a mess and now staring at him with the look of a man who had already been defeated. He then glanced at Ivan and Hyunjin, who simply shook their heads, surrendering whatever would happen next to the universe.

Jason also seemed unable to do anything and just gave up. They all remained frozen, not moving, just staring at one another. Finally, Dennis’s smartphone stopped vibrating. Dennis peeked at the screen and saw that Bella had called him five times in just the few minutes they had been standing like statues in front of the stairs. Shortly after, a barrage of notifications flooded his phone. He peeked again; Bella was showering him with messages.

Of course, Dennis didn’t open the messages and tried to smile, though it looked weird since he was forcing it toward Brad, Ivan, and Hyunjin.

"Forget it, let’s go, Brad," Hyunjin said, turning to give a quick wink to Dennis and Jason.

"We’re heading out first, Dennis, Jason," Ivan told them while keeping his arm around Brad.

Without saying another word, Ivan and Hyunjin continued to lead Brad away. Brad kept looking back at Dennis until, finally, he walked on with his two friends and stared straight ahead.

Dennis and Jason immediately looked relieved. Only then did Dennis check the messages Bella had sent. Jason glanced at Dennis’s smartphone.

"What does Bella even want with you?" Jason asked.

"I don’t know, I’m not even in the mood to open her messages," Dennis answered.

"Just delete them, dude. It’s not important. She always treated you—her so-called childhood friend—pretty badly before you changed, right? I saw it in class, Kimberly too. We’re not blind," Jason said, sounding annoyed.

"I know," Dennis replied, staring at his smartphone screen.

Finally, Dennis opened the very last message. It turned out to be a long paragraph that started by saying Bella was finally ready to be with Dennis because she had divorced Brad, and it ended by asking Dennis to follow her south after he divorced Daisy. Dennis immediately deleted all the messages without reading the rest or replying to anything, then shoved his smartphone back into his pants pocket.

Jason watched Dennis’s face as his expression shifted, even though he was trying to look calm. He gave Dennis another pat on the back.

"You have to step up and be firm, dude. Don’t let Bella mess with your life. This is just advice from a friend—the final call is yours," Jason said.

"Yeah, I’ll figure out how to handle that woman," Dennis replied, knowing Jason was right. What Bella was doing was too risky for his life, especially his marriage to Daisy.

"Let’s head back to class," Jason suggested.

"Yeah, let’s go," Dennis replied.

The two of them walked back toward their classroom. They went straight inside; Dennis sat in his own seat, while Jason sat next to Kimberly in his. Dennis could see Jason telling Kimberly something because she turned back to look at him and gave a quick thumbs-up with a smile, even if it was only for a moment. After that, the bell rang and the lesson began as Mason walked into the classroom.

Dennis just sat there, stunned, watching Mason explain the lesson at the front of the room; he turned to look out the window and thought about how he should handle Bella, because he was certain Bella wouldn’t stop just because he ignored her. He knew Bella’s personality all too well because it hadn’t changed toward him since they were kids.

While Dennis was lost in thought, he suddenly heard a noisy commotion in his head, but it was muffled, as if something was blocking it, which caught him off guard.

[Sir, your wife wants to speak with you; I’ll connect her now.]

Immediately, Dennis heard the conversations of Daisy number one through seven, which they seemed to be having in their council room.

[Mrs. Daisy, your husband is connected.]

Sami’s voice broke through the chatter, and everyone went silent instantly. Suddenly, "honey, my husband, love, sugar, hon, baby, dear," every Daisy called out to Dennis at once using their own nicknames, making Dennis’s head ring.

"Ouch... okay, okay, what’s going on?" Dennis asked inside his head.

"Sami, could you please show sugar what I’ve summarized?" number four asked.

[Alright, one moment.]

Suddenly, a holographic interface appeared in front of Dennis’s face. Dennis’s eyes widened as he saw the message history between Bella and Daisy. It turned out that because Dennis hadn’t replied to her messages, Bella had gone straight for Daisy. Their conversation started with greetings but quickly heated up into an exchange of insults. Essentially, Bella demanded that Daisy let Dennis go because Dennis was hers and she had known him since they were kids.

Naturally, Daisy refused and called Bella delusional. Bella then threatened to harm Daisy, claiming she knew some powerful people who could make Daisy’s life miserable if she didn’t comply. In the messages, Bella genuinely believed that she and Dennis were soulmates and that he belonged to her because they had been brought together since childhood.

Dennis went silent as he read it. Although Daisy hadn’t sent her response to Bella yet, she was clearly beyond furious. On top of that, all of her personalities seemed ready to demolish anyone Bella sent to make their lives difficult. Something happened inside Dennis; his blood, which had been boiling, suddenly went cold. His last bit of sympathy for Bella completely evaporated. Bella attacking Daisy was the final straw, and she had truly gone too far.

"My husband, I am going to destroy her with the data I have. Don’t protest," number two said firmly, already set on her path.

"If the legal route doesn’t work, let me handle it," number three said in a flat voice, though she was clearly livid.

"I’m going to create a dedicated social media profile for this, and I bet it’ll go viral across the other four cities. Just watch," number four said, seething.

"Let’s run an experiment. I’m curious to see what happens if I plant that monster’s heart from yesterday into her body, hohoho," number five said, laughing out of pure rage.

"Let’s head south and tear her school down," number six suggested, the sound of her slamming a fist into her palm echoing.

"Please stay calm and don’t be reckless. We need to discuss this, but don’t you dare defend her or think of her as your childhood friend, dear, otherwise I’ll be the one to take action," even number seven, who was usually calm and composed, sounded livid.

"What’s the move, honey? I can’t just sit still like this. She’s completely crossed the line asking me to divorce you. You belong to me," the primary Daisy said, seething.

"Okay, I get it. I’m not letting Bella off the hook either after reading her message history with you. Honestly, my blood is boiling, but we have to be smart and not get our hands dirty," Dennis said, his own anger rising.

"How do we do that?" Daisy numbers one through seven asked, sounding intensely curious.

Dennis thought for a moment, then remembered the look on Brad’s face when he last saw him before class. A faint smirk appeared on Dennis’s face as a plan formed in his mind.

"Alright, during break, let’s talk to Brad. He’s our key," Dennis said.

"Huh... him?" Daisy numbers one and seven asked at the same time.

"Yeah, I ran into him earlier and he was carrying a folder from a law office. I’m positive that folder contains divorce papers. So, get the necessary data ready—all the results from number two’s investigation yesterday—and summarize it all into one file," Dennis instructed.

"Wow... I see where you’re going with this. Nice work, my husband," number two said.

"Got it. I’ll summarize everything on our shared smartphone," number four replied.

"Ok, I’m in. I agree," number six added.

"Man... no experiment then, but I’m down," number five replied, still sounding annoyed.

"Agreed," number three said.

"Okay, I’ll just go along with it," number seven added.

"Alright, so we’ll find him during break and talk to him," the primary Daisy said.

"Yeah. Now just stay calm for now, okay? We’ll handle this together," Dennis replied.

"Copy that honey, my husband, love, sugar, hon, baby, dear," they all replied in unison.

Dennis’s head finally went quiet again. He looked back out the window, his heart feeling lighter because the thoughts weighing him down were now being shared with his partners—his wife. After that, he quietly took out his smartphone and wrote a message in the joint group chat for the senior and junior teams—even though Brad wasn’t a member—stating that he and Daisy wanted to speak with Brad personally during break, and asked the seniors for help relaying the message to him.

Naturally, Ivan, Sasha, Hyunjin, Minji, and especially Akira started asking Dennis and Daisy what their goal was, as did Gary and Olivia. With Sami’s help sending the interface to the chat, Dennis forwarded the message history between Bella and Daisy and explained that he wanted to set the record straight.

The group went silent for a moment, and only Jason and his wife Kimberly replied with a thumbs-up emoji. Finally, Ivan said he would pass the word to Brad and asked Dennis to meet him on the roof. Dennis, of course, agreed, then calmly placed his smartphone back on the desk.
