My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 98: After Movie Companion
Finished with the movie, "huaaah," Dennis was still yawning since he had just woken up after sleeping through the whole thing, while Daisy, walking beside him, looked tense with a face that seemed ready to cry; she was clearly swept up in the movie’s atmosphere. The two of them walked through the exit corridor from the theater toward the cinema lobby. Dennis glanced at Daisy, who was now gloomy, still lingering on the story from the movie.
"Sad, huh?" Dennis asked curiously.
"Yeah... it’s so sad... Jack drowns, and Rose lives until she’s old... it’s romantic but heartbreaking," Daisy answered, hugging Dennis’s arm.
"That’s how it goes... so, do we want to head straight home or grab some food?" Dennis asked.
Daisy immediately turned to look at Dennis and pushed up her glasses, her round eyes behind the lenses staring at Dennis’s face—which was looking back at her seriously.
"You didn’t watch it, did you? How are you not sad?" Daisy asked, interrogating Dennis with a pout.
"I watched it... I thought it was exciting when it hit the iceberg, then everyone started running and a ship that big split in half and sank into the sea," Dennis answered. "Luckily in my previous life, mom and dad had the movie and loved watching it together for nostalgia and I watched it too, so I know the story even though it’s an old movie," Dennis muttered in his heart.
"Oh... why do you only remember the intense parts? You’re hopeless," Daisy said, giving Dennis a little nudge in the ribs.
"Sorry... so, why did you cover my eyes back there?" Dennis asked. "I know exactly which part that was, and luckily I was awake enough to realize she was covering my eyes," Dennis muttered in his heart.
"During the part where Jack draws Rose naked... I didn’t want you to see," Daisy answered with a pout.
"Oh, that... she had a nice body," Dennis muttered teasingly.
"Wait... you saw it? Whose is better, hers or mine?" Daisy asked curiously.
"Hmm," Dennis replied, pretending to think it over.
"What... why are you thinking about it? How could you!" Daisy replied, starting to get worked up.
"Okay... okay... yours is better. Enough already... do you want to eat first or just go home?" Dennis asked again.
"You... you’re not being serious," Daisy replied with a pout.
"I am serious... you have the best body in the world. Now, don’t be mad," Dennis replied, calming his wife down.
Daisy studied Dennis’s face seriously, her eyes narrowing behind her glasses, before she finally looked straight ahead again.
"Okay, thank you. It turns out you are serious," Daisy replied, regaining her composure.
"Of course I’m serious... now, do you want to eat first or head straight home? This is the third time I’ve asked," Dennis said.
"Let’s eat first. I still want to talk about the movie with you," Daisy said casually, looking at Dennis with a cheerful expression.
"Can’t we just talk about it at home?" Dennis asked, confused.
"No... at home, I’m going to ask you to draw me like in the movie, haha," Daisy joked.
"Good grief. Fine, let’s eat first... oh... I can’t draw, so forget about that," Dennis replied relaxedly while looking ahead.
"Okay, honey," Daisy chirped, hugging Dennis’s arm.
They walked out of the cinema and headed toward the food court to find some food. While walking, both of them glanced back because they felt like someone had been following them since they left the theater. Slowly, they turned around, and their eyes widened to see Ivan, who seemed to be comforting Sasha—her face was sad, and she was actually in tears.
"Wait... Ivan? Sasha?" Dennis asked.
Ivan looked forward, his face showing surprise when he saw Dennis and Daisy turning back to look at him and Sasha.
"Oh... Dennis? Daisy? What are you guys doing here?" Ivan asked.
"We just finished a movie... what happened to Sasha?" Dennis asked.
"Oh... she just watched a movie with me. This is how she’s been since we left the theater," Ivan answered while putting his arm around his wife.
"The movie was so sad, guys just don’t get it," Sasha replied.
"I thought it was pretty exciting," Ivan countered.
"Exactly... did you guys watch Titanic too?" Dennis asked.
"Wait, how’d you know?" Ivan asked.
"We just watched it too, right honey?" Dennis asked.
But Daisy was no longer by Dennis’s side, and Sasha was no longer by Ivan’s side either. Dennis and Ivan looked over to see their wives chatting excitedly while leaning against the glass railing. The two men just sighed and sat down on a long bench side-by-side.
"I saw Brad’s soon-to-be ex-wife earlier. She’s already with another guy," Ivan remarked.
"Same here, I saw them. I even got introduced to the guy. His name is Chris, from the Emerald Military Academy in the south, and he’s on the core team there," Dennis replied.
"Hmm... maybe he’s a new core team member. I know the old core team, and none of them looked like a rock singer," Ivan replied, deep in thought.
"I see. So, when do you think we’ll enter the core territory of the darkness and get close to Onyx City?" Dennis asked, feeling too lazy to discuss Bella and Chris any further and deciding to change the subject.
"About three days from now. Then we’ll hunker down there for three days because there’s bound to be a lot of hunters moving back and forth between here and there. After that, we move out again. Get ready to power down and put away your smartphone because it’ll be completely useless," Ivan said, glancing at the phone in his hand.
"Hmm... right. All communication goes dead when we’re near the center of the darkness... but what actually is the center of the darkness anyway?" Dennis asked.
"Who knows? Even in school, they just say it’s still under investigation. The hunters who go in there rarely ever come back—and even if they do, their sanity isn’t exactly reliable," Ivan answered.
"That’s a good point," Dennis muttered. "If this were a game, the center of darkness would be the undead god’s palace... but there’s no way it’s the same here," Dennis muttered in his heart.
Dennis and Ivan fell silent; they just sat there relaxedly while watching Daisy and Sasha, whose conversation seemed to be getting even more intense in front of them. After a few moments of silence, Dennis turned to look at Ivan beside him.
"Where are you headed after this?" Dennis asked.
"Going to find some food at the food court," Ivan answered.
"Oh, same here. Want to go together?" Dennis asked.
"Sure, why not? But we have to wait for them, right?" Ivan asked, pointing toward Sasha and Daisy, who seemed to be getting deeper into their movie discussion with all sorts of expressions playing across their faces.
They fell silent again and watched their wives. But suddenly, Ivan nudged Dennis gently and looked toward the cinema, which was still visible from where they were sitting. Dennis turned to look in the direction Ivan was pointing; he witnessed Bella entering the cinema with Chris. The two men could only shake their heads.
Then they looked at their wives again, and it seemed they had also spotted Bella and Chris heading into the cinema. It was obvious their discussion was no longer about the movie, but had shifted to gossiping about Bella and Chris quite openly—so much so that their husbands could hear every word, and Sasha even went as far as taking a photo of Bella and Chris with her smartphone.
Dennis and Ivan only sighed, watching their wives who were now caught up in an intense gossip session about what they had just seen.
"Women," thought Dennis and Ivan at the same time, though they didn’t realize they were thinking the exact same thing.
Since time was ticking, Dennis and Ivan stood up and immediately urged Daisy and Sasha to continue their way to the food court. Daisy and Sasha stopped their gossiping and went back to discussing the movie they had just watched while walking ahead, while Dennis and Ivan followed the two girls from behind. While walking, Dennis turned to look at Ivan.
"Do you plan on telling Brad about his soon-to-be ex-wife finding a new guy? Sasha took a photo of them, right?" Dennis asked.
"What for? Brad is happy now and doing better, so there’s no need to bother him with stuff like that. I’ll tell Sasha later not to let him know," Ivan answered.
"Good. I was just afraid it might mess up something that’s finally going right," Dennis replied, feeling a bit relieved.
"Thanks. You’re actually a good guy, Den. Brad told me, Hyunjin, and Akira everything about how he treated you back then. I understand now why you challenged all of us at the time, because Brad really did cross the line and was way too jealous of you. Now he can think straight and understands; he won’t do the same thing again because he’s matured now. His experience being married to his soon-to-be ex-wife became a valuable lesson for him," Ivan replied while placing a hand on Dennis’s shoulder.
"Okay, I get it. It’s all in the past, so no need to talk about it anymore. I don’t have a problem with Brad anymore either," Dennis said. "Even though I still can’t quite consider him a friend, sorry," Dennis muttered in his heart.
They then continued their way to the food court. When they arrived, they split up to order food, then sat down and ate together.
