My spirit animal is a F–Rank gecko-Chapter 14: Not so welcoming ceremony (3)
After running back to the academy, Jaster went to the well again.
He looked down and spotted the girl sitting, with her blonde hair covering her face.
"I think she’s sleeping..... HEY, YOU OKAY DOWN THERE!"
She woke up suddenly; she looked up and was relieved to see Jaster.
"Omg, you’re back! I thought you left me!"
Her voice was raspy. It was obvious that she was tired from screaming so much.
"I’m gonna throw the rope down, ok!"
He tied one end of the rope to the nearby tree and threw the rest of the rope down the well.
Janster could hear the girl scream happily.
While waiting for the girl to climbed up, he sat below the tree, hiding from the sun.
He looked at his Purple and saw it sleeping.
"You must’ve been tired all day." He gently picked up the gecko and put it in his pocket, where it could sleep peacefully.
He heard a grunting noise getting closer inside the well, and the girl finally came out.
She plopped herself on the ground; her hair was messy with many loose strands, and dirt stained her whole uniform.
Jaster ran up to her to help her get up.
"Woah, thank you so much!" The blonde girl opened her arms, but Jaster backed away, using his eyes as a signal.
"Oh yeah... hehe, sorry, I must be stinky by now!"
"Yeah, you really are." He pinched his nose.
The girl had beautiful orange eye color that contrasted with her blonde hair.
"Forgetting about that, let me introduce myself. Nice to meet you, I’m Anastasia. May I know what your name is?"
"My name is Jaster. By the way, Anastasia, how did you even get stuck down there?"
Anastasia rubbed her head, her cheeks turning tomato red.
"Uhh... I.. I was playing with my spirit animal, but then he fell off the well.."
Jaster raised his eyebrows.
"So your animal didn’t see the obvious big well that’s out in the open?"
"She’s a bit clumsy, ok!"
Anastasia’s chest began to glow red, as particles started forming into a shape.
What came out was a very cute fox. It had very bright orange-colored fur, and on its head, there was a pink bow.
But Jaster immediately understood why she said it was clumsy.
"Uhm, your fox looks derpy."
He pointed towards the orange fox’s eyes. One eye was looking at the sky and the other was looking back at Jaster. It also didn’t help that the fox had its tongue sticking out.
"But I swear she’s a very good girl." Anastasia hugged her fox tight.
Jaster continued to stare at the fox while one of its eyes looked at him.
He couldn’t take her seriously, seeing how derpy the fox looked.
The fox opened its mouth. "Yip yip."
The hell?
"I mean... It’s cute, I guess."
"EVERY FIRST YEAR, PLEASE GATHER UP AGAIN IN THE CENTER OF THE SCHOOL. I REPEAT, EVERY—"
The loudspeaker blasted throughout the academy.
Was it necessary to be this loud?
"Anyway, I’m glad I could help. I’m gonna go now."
He walked away from Anastasia, but she quickly grabbed his hand.
"Wait, uhh..."
Her face turned red again. "Can I come with you, please.. I have no other friends." She purposely softened the last words so Jaster would feel bad.
But we’re talking about Jaster here; he doesn’t give a shit about humans.
"Ok??"
He accepted her invitation, not because he wanted to, but because he thought he needed to.
After Anastasia cleaned up, they both headed into the circle where many first years were already gathered.
Jaster noticed how many of them had already formed friend groups, while he was stuck with a girl that had a derpy fox.
"Just my luck...." he muttered.
"Did you say something, Jaster?"
Many people were looking at Anastasia; some were even whispering about her.
Perhaps it was because her hair was wet and she didn’t have time to dry her uniform.
Hearing more whispering about her, Jaster wished he had just let the teacher save her and found a new, useful friend.
But that idea was immediately erased, as he remembered he couldn’t socialize.
"Ahem." Marcus stepped on the stage again, stealing everyone’s attention.
"I hope Bondspire is what you expected it to be! Now that the sun is setting, every first year, please proceed to your dorm room."
A guy amongst the crowd raised his hand.
"How do we get the room number?"
Marcus smiled.
"It’s simple. You just tap the logo of the school on your jacket, and it’ll show your student status. You can even check your average score there."
Many people tried it out, and some were happy and shocked about their score.
But there were also some who were disappointed seeing their average score.
"About time! Now let’s see what this Jaster is packing!"
Adam was excited to find out how smart the real Jaster was, since these grades are from his previous school, recorded here.
He tapped on the logo, and a hologram window appeared.
Jaster stared at the window.
"Oh... wow."

"So my score is in the bottom ten. Just great...."
"You can all see your dorm room number in the last digits of your student ID!" Marcus announced to everyone.
"Ok, so I’m on the 47th floor, and in room 21—"
"Hey, bestie, what score did you get?"
Anastasia locked Jaster with her arm, startling him.
"Ana!"
"AWWW, are we calling each other by our short names now? I’m gonna call you Jas for short!" Ana poked his nose.
Jaster now really wished he’d left her back at the well.
"My average score is low. It’s 2.7," Jaster said, rolling his eyes.
"Are you serious?.... I’M 2.6."
Anastasia began hugging Jaster again.
"We’re twinsies! I knew we were meant to be friends."
The word "friends" caught Jaster off guard; he pushed Ana away.
"Where are you going?"
"Going to my room; it’s cold out here!"
Jaster didn’t wanna get attached to anyone in this game. Besides, he’s trying to figure out how he got transmigrated here in the first place.
So making friends is the last thing he needs and wants.
Jaster looked up at the sky and saw the sunset; he noticed the massive building in the distance.
"That must be the dormitories."
After going to the first-year dormitories, Jaster used the elevator to go towards floor 47.
After it stopped, he looked at the hallway.
"Wow.. it’s surreal seeing it in real life."
The hallway was like a hotel hallway, and he liked it more, seeing how quiet it was.
"There’s barely any student here, probably because this is one of the higher floors, since the first floor was packed with students!"
After walking for a bit, he reached his dorm room.
"Ok... Let’s see who my roommate will be!"
Opening the door, he saw his dorm room.
The dorm room was bright and open, with wide windows stretching across the wall and the moonlight spilling onto the wooden floor.
Outside, the tall buildings of Silver City filled the view like a city skyline.
"NICE, I got a nice view!" He saw the room was almost empty.
There were only two beds right across from each other, with a storage space underneath each.
On one of the beds, he saw a dark-haired man unpacking while wearing headphones.
"That must be my roommate, should I introduce myself?..." Jaster noticed that he was also wearing a gray sweater, hinting that he’d been here earlier.
"Hello..." Jaster waved at the man, but since he was wearing headphones, he didn’t hear him.
"Uhh, I’ll just put my baggage down."
After putting all his stuff in the storage space, Jaster finally heard the man’s voice.
"Oh...."
He turned around and saw the man staring back at him.
The two of them had an awkward stare contest until Jaster broke the silence.
"Hello, my name is Jaster."
"Hi, I’m Joshua."
After the bare minimum conversation, Joshua put on his headphones back and continued unpacking.
"Uhhh.... Great... I’m with that kind of roommate."
Jaster just shrugged it off, since he was tired after a long day.
He carefully put the sleeping Purpleberry onto his bed and went to take a shower.
After he finished, he put on a plain blue shirt and white shorts and then plopped himself onto the bed.
Jaster peeked from the other side of the room, seeing Joshua already sleeping but with headphones on.
Jaster just sighed.
"I’ll get to know him more eventually."
He looked at the sleeping gecko; it was peacefully surrounded by its tail and snoring.
"If I had just bought you that amulet, you would’ve been in a more comfortable position. I’m so sorry that this is the only thing I can give you...."
He slowly moved closer towards Purple and hugged it.
He closed his eyes, preparing to drift away to dreamland, but before he closed his eyes,
Jaster whispered something in Purple’s ear.
"I love you... Purpleberry." Those were the last words Jaster said before submerging into his slumber.
The moonlight cast down upon both of them as Jaster was finally able to rest after a very long day.
Helping one of the members of the Jefferson family, fighting with one of the Nightroot Clan members,
getting his bosan stolen by a random hooded girl, Purple throwing a tantrum and leaving him, rescuing a girl who has a derpy fox.
But even after all that, Jaster doesn’t regret a single thing,
since all that matters to him is his gecko that he’s embracing currently.
All of a sudden, a window cut through the silence of the night.
