My System Forces Me to Live off Women-Chapter 205 - 189: Fox Spirit
After returning Shen Liao's computer, Li Peifeng went back to the studio, planning to cadge a meal. Unfortunately, the room was empty, not a soul around. He called Wu Wenyue, but she didn't pick up. Probably she was either still upset or filming, or perhaps both.
Not wanting to find disappointment, he returned to the school cafeteria for a quick bite and continued with his afternoon classes. Or rather, he continued with teaching.
This session was an elective course on online literature research set up by Zhao Qingge. Whether he attended or not didn't matter much, but he was roped in by Old Zhao. Not only did he have to attend, but he also had to teach and grade assignments.
The assignments were the ones Li Peifeng had set last time while covering for Zhao Qingge. He asked the sixty-plus students attending to break into six groups, each entering one of the current novel platforms to read online literature and collaborate to write novels according to the site's rules.
The purpose of this had many facets: firstly, to have them truly enter the creative realm of online literature and personally experience the environment authors face, facilitating profound research; secondly, to have creative writing majors learn writing through practice and explore their own paths; thirdly, it provided everyone a chance to finesse their papers!
Four out of the six groups have already published their works on various platforms, each with an average word count of around forty thousand, but none secured a contract yet. The remaining two groups are still in the brewing stage but have decided on the subject matter and creativity and produced an outline.
"I've noticed your current position on online novels is still not accurate, resulting in unclear positioning in the novels you write..."
On the podium, Li Peifeng glanced through the published books on the computer and also looked at the outlines from the other two groups. He internally evaluated that 'securing a contract would be difficult' and then began teaching.
"Web literature is popular literary merchandise. It's literature, but it's more of a commodity. Since it's a commodity, you should understand what kind of goods the market needs, or what kind of story most readers like. As web literature authors, you have to consider the commodity's attributes: popularity and acceptance."
"The mindset for writing web literature shouldn't be 'I have a good story, I must write it out!' but instead, 'I have a good story, others should think it's great, so I must write it out.' Also, you need to note that the story styles and reader groups on each web literature platform differ, so you should consider that too..."
While dissecting and deconstructing web literature for the students, it was simultaneously an elevation for Li Peifeng himself, exemplifying the idea of mutual improvement through teaching.
After class, Li Peifeng accompanied Zhao Qingge back to the office, initially hoping for some hand-holding, hugging, and cuddling, but Old Zhao was clearly still angry, not only forbidding him from getting close but also issuing threats…
"Do you want me to call your parents? Take your hands back!"
Li Peifeng sighed and turned to leave.
Though Old Zhao had already accepted the all-in-one dream and shared great relationships with the other three girls in the dream, upon waking, she had reverted to her Professor Zhao demeanor.
What does this indicate? It indicates reality is an even higher and tougher iceberg than he imagined!
…
By half-past four in the afternoon, the rain had stopped, and the two private chefs Li Peifeng had booked beforehand arrived with ingredients and tools to cook.
At five, the birthday girl Xu Manning and Wu Wenyue returned home too. The mood of both girls seemed to have returned to normal as they chatted and laughed, but when facing Li Peifeng, they remained indifferent, obviously still holding onto anger.
Li wanted to say a few more words to them, but the two girls went straight into the bedroom and locked the door.
"Call us when it's time to eat!"
Though their attitude was poor, Li Peifeng felt slightly relieved, as it hadn't reached the point of kicking him out. Under the guidance of the two private chefs, he devoted himself to making desserts, hoping to use handmade desserts to further quell the girls' anger.
At twenty past five, there was a knock at the door. Just as Li Peifeng, who was helping in the kitchen, was about to go open it, Wu Wenyue rushed ahead to welcome the visitor, who was none other than Huang Tianxuan.
"Am I late?"
"No, the meal isn't ready yet."
"Come in, Sister Xuan."
After Huang Tianxuan stepped inside, she glanced at Li Peifeng but was quickly pulled into the side bedroom by the two girls, behaving intimately like close girl friends.
"Feels like I'm being excluded!"
Clicking his tongue, Li Peifeng quietly entered the room, attempting to eavesdrop on the three girls' conversation. After catching a few initial idle words, Huang Tianxuan finally brought up the topic Li Peifeng was most concerned about...
"Are you mad at him?"
Wu Wenyue replied in a deep voice, "He went too far!"
Huang Tianxuan exclaimed and hesitated, "Actually, it's not that bad. I've nearly forgotten what happened in the dream this morning. After all, it was just a dream..."
Li Peifeng hadn't expected her to speak on his behalf and was a bit stunned.
But inside the room, Xu Manning sneered, "Those dreams are minor concerns, not to mention what he and Sister Xuan have been up to before. Just look at now; he's actually indulging in a student-teacher romance with Zhao Qingge while in relationships with us, it's utterly despicable! Plus, I saw him whispering with that girl with white hair in the library at noon!"
Huang Tianxuan was surprised: "Really? Then he indeed acted wrongly!"
"He's like a dog that can't stop eating shit!"
"Anyway, we're not planning to forgive him!"
After the two girls spoke angrily, Huang Tianxuan expressed understanding and sided with them, saying, "Peifeng certainly is very fickle-minded, what's your plan then?"
