Chapter 142: Broken Deal

The massive owl folded its wings and dropped from the sky like a living spear.

For a brief moment the battlefield went quiet, as if even the wind itself had drawn a breath and forgotten to release it. The creature’s crimson feathers glowed under the dim light of the strange plane, and its golden eyes locked onto the sorcerer trapped inside the shimmering sphere of magic.

Then it struck.

The owl slammed into the floating shield with a thunderous bang that shook the air itself.

The sorcerer inside the sphere jerked violently as the entire shield flew across the sky like a kicked ball. His body smashed against the inner barrier with a heavy thud that forced the air from his lungs.

"Guh—!"

The vampires below gasped.

"What—"

The owl did not slow down.

With powerful wings beating the air, it curved through the sky and chased the spinning sphere. Its talons stretched forward, and with terrifying force it kicked the magical shield again.

Bang!

The sphere shot downward like a meteor.

Inside it, the sorcerer slammed against the opposite side, his back hitting the barrier so hard that pain exploded through his spine.

"Damn creature—!"

Before he could stabilize himself, the owl was already there again.

Another strike.

Another thunderous impact.

Bang!

The shield ricocheted through the air like a toy tossed between giants.

The sorcerer’s vision blurred as his body smashed from one side of the barrier to the other again and again. His ribs screamed in protest and blood gathered in his throat.

The owl circled once more, its wings cutting through the air with frightening grace, and then it dove again.

Bang!

The shield flew upward this time, spinning wildly.

The vampires on the ground stared with wide eyes.

Former Baron Rivik gripped his cloak tightly as he watched the impossible sight.

"What... what in the night is that beast...?"

Ancestor Ghurn’s jaw slowly dropped as he followed the movement in the sky.

"That... that is Zenaya’s blood beast?"

Another ancestor whispered in disbelief.

"No... that cannot be..."

Yet the truth was right before their eyes.

High above them, the massive crimson owl chased the sorcerer like a predator playing with helpless prey.

The shield glowed with defensive magic, but every time the owl struck it, the sorcerer inside bounced around like a trapped animal.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Each impact echoed across the barren land of the dimensional plane.

The sorcerer tried to stabilize himself, tried to aim a spell through the barrier, but every attempt was destroyed by the next violent collision.

"You miserable beast!" he roared.

The owl answered with a loud, mocking squawk.

Then it kicked the shield again.

Bang!

The sphere smashed into the ground and bounced back into the air like a stone skipping across water.

Inside the shield the sorcerer coughed violently.

Blood splattered against the glowing barrier.

The owl circled once more and dove.

Bang!

A faint crack appeared on the shield.

The sound was small, but it carried across the silent battlefield.

Crack.

The vampires froze.

Their eyes widened.

Did they really hear that?

The owl rose into the air again, its wings spreading wide like a crimson storm cloud.

Then it dove once more with unstoppable force.

Bang!

The crack grew larger.

Inside the shield the sorcerer slammed against the barrier again, his shoulder bending at a painful angle as bone protested.

"AAARGH!"

His voice finally carried fear.

The owl flew past him, turned sharply in the sky, and came back once more.

Bang!

The shield shook violently.

Crack.

The sound was unmistakable now.

The Moonshade vampires stared upward with stunned faces.

The shield... was breaking.

Ancestor Ghurn slowly whispered, "It... it is damaging the shield..."

Former Baron Rivik let out a shaky breath.

"That beast... it is truly hurting him..."

Another vampire ancestor muttered in disbelief, "That is Elder Zenaya’s blood owl?"

On the ground, Zenaya herself was kneeling, catching her breath after being dropped earlier. Her long hair was messy from the wind, and her chest rose and fell as she watched the sky.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

"Good," she whispered.

"Keep going."

Above them the owl dived again.

Bang!

The magical sphere was sent spinning through the air like a broken star.

Another crack crawled across the surface of the shield.

Finally the owl stopped.

It flapped its wings once and rose high into the air, circling slowly.

The shield hovered in the sky for a moment.

Then with a sharp cracking sound, pieces of magic shattered and dissolved into glowing fragments.

The barrier collapsed.

The sorcerer dropped from the sky and crashed onto the ground.

Dust exploded outward.

For a moment no one spoke.

The vampires stared.

The powerful sorcerer who had toyed with them moments ago now lay on one knee in a crater, blood dripping from his mouth and forehead.

The Moonshade vampires were stunned.

Former Baron Rivik slowly whispered, "The shield... it broke it..."

Ancestor Ghurn rubbed his eyes as if he could not trust what he was seeing.

"That owl... actually destroyed his defense..."

A younger vampire stammered.

"E... Elder Zenaya’s blood beast... is this powerful?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Another elder shook his head in disbelief.

"We all attacked together earlier and we could not even scratch that shield..."

Someone else whispered, "And yet that creature shattered it like glass..."

Their voices trembled between shock and hope.

High above them the crimson owl circled proudly, its wings glowing like living blood under the strange sky.

Suddenly one of the vampires shouted.

"We managed to hurt him!"

Another vampire quickly joined.

"Yes! He is injured now!"

Ancestor Ghurn raised his voice toward the crater.

"You heard your own words, sorcerer!"

Former Baron Rivik stepped forward and pointed at him.

"You said if we scratched you, you would let us leave!"

The vampires gathered behind him, their courage growing with every breath.

"You are bleeding now!"

"You were hurt!"

"Keep your word!"

"Let us go!"

Their voices filled the battlefield.

For a moment the sorcerer remained silent.

He slowly pushed himself up from the ground.

Blood dripped from his chin as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

Then he laughed.

It was not a cheerful laugh.

It was cold.

"So you think this means victory?"

The vampires froze.

The sorcerer lifted his head and glared at them with burning eyes.

"No way," he growled.

He spat blood onto the ground.

"After your owl did this to me... you think I will let you walk away?"

The vampires stiffened.

"What?"

"You promised—"

The sorcerer interrupted with a furious shout.

"It was never my intention to let you all go!"

His voice thundered across the battlefield.

"You filthy vampires!"

Above them the crimson owl gave an angry squawk.

Zenaya suddenly stood up and pointed toward the enemy.

"Attack him!"

Her voice rang out like a command.

The Moonshade vampires snapped out of their shock.

Ancestor Ghurn roared, "Everyone attack!"

Former Baron Rivik lifted both hands as blood magic gathered around his fingers.

"Do not hold back!"

In the sky the owl flapped its wings and climbed higher.

On the ground dozens of vampires began chanting.

Blood energy gathered in the air like a rising storm.

"Die, sorcerer!" one of them shouted.

"You will not leave this place alive!" another screamed.

A rain of blood magic formed above them.

Spears of crimson fire.

Blades made from hardened blood.

Spinning discs of razor energy.

Then they launched them all at once.

"FIRE!"

The sky exploded.

A rain of violent magic crashed down toward the sorcerer.

The sorcerer cursed loudly and raised his hands.

A new shield formed around him instantly.

Boom!

The first spell struck the barrier.

Boom!

Then another.

Boom!

And another.

The sky filled with explosions as wave after wave of blood magic smashed into the defensive sphere.

The vampires continued shouting as they attacked.

"Break!"

"Shatter!"

"Die!"

The battlefield trembled under the constant bombardment.

Yet inside the shield the sorcerer slowly began to smirk again.

"Too weak," he muttered.

Another spell struck the barrier and exploded.

The shield held firm.

"You think this level of power can break my magic?"

His grin widened.

"You fools."

But then something changed.

The spells suddenly stopped.

The sky became quiet again.

The sorcerer frowned.

"What?"

He looked upward.

At that moment his eyes widened in horror.

High above him the crimson owl had folded its wings.

It was diving.

Like a falling star.

The sorcerer raised his hand to attack it, but at the same time the vampires on the ground finished gathering their next spells.

Blood magic flared in their palms.

The sorcerer clenched his teeth.

If he attacked the owl, the spells would strike him.

If he blocked the spells, the owl would reach him.

"Damn it!"

He had no time to decide.

The owl arrived first.

Bang!

Its talons slammed against the shield.

The sphere shot downward like a cannonball and smashed into the ground.

The sorcerer bounced violently inside the barrier.

Before he could recover the owl was already moving again.

Bang!

The shield flew sideways across the battlefield.

Inside it the sorcerer slammed into the barrier and coughed blood.

"GAAH!"

The owl chased him again.

Bang!

Another kick sent the sphere flying into the air.

The sorcerer’s head slammed against the barrier.

His vision blurred.

He felt like a rat trapped inside a toy ball being kicked by a giant.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

The owl did not stop.

Each strike shook the shield and rattled the sorcerer’s bones.

Blood sprayed from his mouth every time his body smashed against the barrier.

The vampires watched with stunned expressions.

Ancestor Ghurn whispered, "It is shaking him to death..."

Former Baron Rivik nodded slowly.

"He cannot escape the impact..."

Above them the owl continued its relentless assault.

Bang!

The sphere slammed into the ground again.

The sorcerer screamed.

"No! Stop!"

Bang!

The owl kicked it into the air again.

His body slammed against the barrier so hard that another bone cracked.

Pain spread through his entire body.

He tasted blood constantly now.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

The owl kept pounding him.

The shield still held together, but the sorcerer inside it was breaking.

His breathing grew ragged.

His vision darkened.

Fear finally filled his eyes.

"I... I am going to die..."

The owl rose into the air again.

The sorcerer looked up at the diving creature with horror.

"No... no... no..."

His voice trembled.

"This cannot be happening..."

The owl folded its wings and came down like a hammer.

The sorcerer screamed in desperation.

"No! No! No!"

But the attack was already falling.

And he knew one terrible truth.

If this continued any longer...

He would not survive.
