My Tribrid System: More than a Monster-Chapter 128: Beast Planets (1)
Chapter 126
It was now the following day.
The previous night, Ray had already broached the subject with Kai regarding Chloe.
It hadn’t actually taken long to convince the legacy to take the struggling girl under his tutelage.
Although Kai was visibly skeptical at first, Ray managed to persuade him with a bit of persistent prodding.
In Kai’s own words, he had stated:
"It’s only because of you that I’m even considering this. If it were anyone else asking, I wouldn’t have bothered."
After informing the Tribrid exactly where and what time the girl was expected to meet him for their sessions, the message was promptly relayed back to her.
With everything finally set in motion, Ray just had to kick back, relax, and wait until she actually began to grow stronger.
At the moment, they had just finished their morning physical training and were currently grabbing a quick breakfast.
While Van and Kai chatted animatedly, Ray was already lost in the depths of his own thoughts.
’Now, I have pulled her closer with this arrangement. I still need someone powerful by my side too. I have realized something over the past few weeks I’ve spent here...’ He let that thought hang suspended for a moment before letting out a weary sigh.
’... For some reason, Felix keeps acting like he’s my brother or something. Why is he so obsessed with girls? Hopefully, he doesn’t cross Trisha’s path in his endless quest to find a busty woman.
Now that I think of it, I still don’t know the specific werewolf rankings that exist or even the true extent of Felix’s strength. Also, can other werewolves utilize abilities just like humans can? I’m an anomaly, so I won’t count myself among them.’
He sighed inwardly once more before dropping his spoon onto the empty plastic plate.
’I will definitely have to talk to that fool after the day’s classes are finished.’
"Come on, Ray. We need to get moving to our homeroom class," Van called out, breaking his reverie.
"Yeah, sure," Ray replied.
With that, the trio grabbed their empty trays and headed over to return them to the clearing station.
Casting a quick, discerning glance at his best friend, Ray’s brows furrowed in concern.
"You haven’t been sleeping properly lately, have you?"
Van just awkwardly scratched his messy hair with a nervous chuckle. "Well, it’s just... I have a mountain of things to get done."
Kai butted in, his tone firm.
"That doesn’t mean you should neglect your sleep entirely. Even we desire to grow stronger, but we don’t ignore our need for rest. Don’t push yourself past your breaking point."
"Yeah, yeah. I have heard you both loud and clear," Van replied dismissively.
"I know you; you are far too stubborn and will just end up doing exactly what is in your mind anyway," Ray snarked as he dropped his dishes and turned around.
"I took after you on that particular trait," Van remarked with a silent, knowing chuckle.
Afterward, they made their way through the corridors to the homeroom lecture hall.
In a few minutes, the class commenced as usual.
"Today, we will be discussing the topic of beast planets," Sony began, punctuating his opening with a small yawn.
"Ah, chucks. I didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night," he muttered while rubbing his tired, bloodshot eyes.
"... Anyway, does anybody here know what a beast planet actually is?"
A hand shot up. Then came a quick response.
— A planet filled with beasts?
Sony nodded slowly while rubbing his temples, trying to ease a budding headache.
"Yes. But it is more accurately described as a world—a whole different dimension just for the beasts. The same way Alcatraz is a world for humans, these beast planets serve as a home for the creatures."
’Hm. Interesting,’ Ray mused as he gripped his pen tighter, ready to jot down any important points he needed to capture.
Another hand. Then a follow-up question. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
— Exactly how many beast planets are there?
Sony let out a soft, dry chuckle at that inquiry.
"Numerous. In fact, I would go so far as to say they are currently uncountable."
— Why is that?
"That is because every single day, new planets are being discovered. New gates appear that transport travelers to entirely new worlds, so we simply cannot keep a definitive count."
Ray’s interest was suddenly piqued as he raised his hand and voiced a question of his own.
"New gates?"
Sony nodded.
"Yes. What most of you don’t realize is that the government, in collaboration with the Big Four, maintains permanent gates that lead directly to specific beast planets. We effectively have several of these worlds under our firm grip."
"Hm?" Ray lifted an eyebrow, his mind racing with the tactical implications.
Van was the next to interject with a follow-up.
"Why exactly are we hoarding beast planets? Doesn’t keeping those gateways open pose a massive danger to the city?"
"Yes, it certainly is a calculated risk," Sony admitted.
"But we require resources—staggering amounts of them. As I mentioned in our previous lecture, the vast majority of our advanced technology is powered by beast cores.
We simply cannot afford to wait around for random gates to manifest and whisk us away to a beast planet; those natural occurrences happen far too infrequently. Consequently, the Blue family took it upon themselves to bridge that gap and make the process more efficient for us."
"Wait. The Blue family?" Ray asked, his brow furrowed in curiosity.
"Ah, yeah. They are one of the Big Four—the family primarily responsible for the majority of our technological advancements, including the very VMS gear you use.
They are a legacy family filled with genuine geniuses, possessing an IQ that far surpasses that of the average human. Funnily enough, they are essentially just humans without any supernatural abilities. Yet, their collective brainpower is like a localized supercomputer," Sony replied with a dry chuckle.
’It’s truly amazing what normal humans can actually accomplish when pushed to the brink,’ he added silently to himself.
Van’s interest was the next to be piqued, his eyes widening as his thoughts began to churn.
’The Blue family? High IQ? Just ordinary humans? Something about that doesn’t quite add up.’
"Okay, now where was I?" Sony muttered, pausing for a few seconds before snapping his fingers in realization.
"Right. As I was explaining: the Blue family developed artificial gateways for our military use. These function like stable portals, teleporting our forces directly to beast planets—some already conquered, others still largely untamed.
It’s all done to harvest resources: materials for beast weapons, high-grade fuel for our tech, and so on. Many of our most valuable raw minerals are found exclusively on those alien soils."
A hand went up from the middle of the room.
— So, does the Blade family also have their own private gateways leading to different beast planets?
"Yup. Every major faction has their stake. Some planets are significantly more hazardous than others.
For example, the world you all visited when you entered that tier-one gate a few weeks back—just as gates are categorized into tiers, the planets themselves follow the same correspondence.
Occasionally, you might encounter a gate break, though that happens rarely. When it does, it usually signifies that the planet in question cannot be easily conquered."
"Hang on, I’m starting to get confused here," Kai uttered, rubbing his temples as a gnawing headache began to set in.
"We entered a gate that led to a beast planet recently. So why was it that when we defeated the boss, the gate instantly closed? If the portals disappear, how do you people actually manage to conquer and hold those planets?"
