Chapter 138: Busted

Chapter 136

Bryce and Elysa had just finished finalizing their twisted plans in the quiet hall used for the technical aspect class, entirely unaware that their every word had been intercepted by a hidden spy.

Because she had known exactly what was scheduled to transpire today, Elysa had ensured the Aspirants she instructed did not attend her session, claiming she was feeling unwell.

By giving them all a day off, she ensured the room remained vacant for the transaction.

Even the General of the Aspirant Corps remained oblivious to the meeting; only a few select Captains and instructors were aware of Bryce’s presence, and they remained largely indifferent.

They simply assumed that whenever Bryce Jackson made a trip to the Corps, it was a routine visit to check on the progress of the tech division.

Knowing his reputation and his business dealings, the faculty saw nothing suspicious about his arrival.

In fact, many believed his visits provided a rare opportunity for the Aspirants in the tech class to showcase their intellect.

They figured that if a student couldn’t secure a position within the prestigious Blue family, they might find a lucrative future within Jackson’s faction.

They had no idea that for years, these visits had served as a cover to smuggle illegal technology and craft destructive devices right under their noses.

It had been years of Elysa stealing brilliant, unrecognized tech from the Aspirants and selling the concepts to Bryce.

Years of working together on seemingly "harmless" components had finally culminated in the creation of something truly deadly today.

Inside the room, alongside Bryce and Elysa, the leader of Jackson Ltd.

had brought six elite guards with him.

An additional six stood watch outside the heavy doors to prevent anyone from interrupting the meeting.

These men carried no visible weapons, but their bodies were encased in specialized beast armor.

They refused to move even an inch from their positions, forming a tight defensive perimeter around Bryce, prepared for any possible threat to their employer.

Even though they were within earshot of his genocidal plans, the guards remained unmoved.

What could they possibly do against the man who kept them on a generous payroll?

He was the same individual who had plucked them from obscurity when others had discarded them, providing them with lives of status and comfort.

Regardless of his intent—even if it meant the deaths of thousands—as long as he treated them and their families well, they would protect him with their lives.

"Great, then. We will be taking our leave,"

Bryce remarked with a cold smirk as he extended his hand to shake Elysa’s.

Elysa glanced briefly at her smartphone, her eyes lighting up at the notification that had just appeared on the screen.

15,000 credits.

This single payment was triple the monthly salary she earned as an instructor at the Corps, where staff typically received five thousand credits.

To her, this was an irresistible fortune, and her beam widened accordingly.

"It is a pleasure working with you as usual. Until next time?" Elysa asked, her smirk mirroring his.

"I’m not sure. Whenever I find myself in need of more advanced hardware, perhaps," Bryce replied, stepping back after the handshake.

"Until then, take care."

He turned toward the exit and was just about to depart when a sharp sound cut through the air.

Beep—! Beep—! Beep—!

The noise was piercingly loud, causing everyone in the room to freeze.

Bryce paused mid-stride, turning back to stare at Elysa with a sharply raised brow.

"What is that?!"

Elysa looked genuinely bewildered as she began scanning the cluttered room, her eyes darting around in search of the source of the persistent beeping.

Tracing the sound with her ears, she crouched down to peer under a nearby workbench.

That was when she spotted it: a small mechanical spider, its chassis flashing a rhythmic red light while pulsing with an alarming amount of concentrated energy.

"Shoot! Duck!" she screamed, bolting backward with desperate speed.

BOOOM!

An explosion, though only the size of a fist, unleashed a highly concentrated shockwave that rocked the room, instantly blasting the heavy wooden table into a cloud of splinters.

The moment she had vaulted away, she was lucky enough to land near another sturdy table.

With a nimble backflip, she landed behind the furniture and, with a swift, powerful kick, overturned it to serve as a makeshift shield against the oncoming shockwave of the blast.

Meanwhile, at the first sign of the beeping, the guards had moved with practiced, superhuman speed, closing ranks to completely surround Bryce from all sides.

Coupled with Elysa’s warning, three of the six guards reacted with supernatural speed.

Their hands began to glow with a pale light, and a translucent white barrier materialized around them, shielding the unit along with Bryce from the shockwave, which failed to leave even a scratch on the energy field.

Upon hearing the detonation, the sentries from the hallway quickly trickled into the room.

Every man was coiled and ready for combat, their armored bodies tensing as they surveyed the wreckage.

A deep frown twisted Bryce’s face as he glared in the direction where Elysa was crouched.

"What the hell is this?!" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.

The female instructor slowly rose from behind her makeshift cover, a look of genuine flabbergasted disbelief written across her features.

"I—I don’t know how..." She trailed off as a sharp realization struck her like a physical blow.

"Shit. We have been found out."

Bryce lifted an eyebrow, his gaze drifting over the shattered remains of the table and the scattered valves and technical components strewn across the floor.

"What exactly does that mean?"

Elysa could be seen visibly fidgeting, her hands clenching in white-knuckled anger as she glared at the ceiling.

"I thought he was just a naive kid. Who could have known he was suspicious enough to actually plant a mechanical bug to monitor us? Fuck!"

"Who are you talking about? The brat who helped you?!" Bryce asked with furrowed, menacing brows.

Elysa looked back at the man, a silent gulp escaping her throat.

"Yes. It’s Van..."

The heavy door to the room was suddenly blasted backward with a thunderous crash.

All eyes snapped toward the entrance at the sound that echoed violently around the hall.

The flying door slammed into one of the guards who had just rushed in, the impact smashing him aside with enough force to cause several eyes to widen in shock.

Rolling into the room with the momentum of a wheel, a slim figure skidded forward across the floor.

With a metallic sphere gripped firmly in his hand, the newcomer bolted into the center of the room—a tactical position that allowed him to keep every single person present within his line of sight.

"Van?!" Elysa shouted, recognizing the boy instantly.

"Wassup, Instructor Elysa?" Van greeted her, a nervous yet defiant smirk playing on his lips.
