My Vampire Life With My Beautiful Vampire Wives-Chapter 41: Calm down?
Nightingale, Scarlet Mansion.
After about an hour of silence, Roxana, who has calmed down, begins to tell him about her situation with her family, about how they had arranged a marriage for her, which was practically selling her off.
"What did you say...?" An irritating feeling began to grow in Lucien’s heart and soon spread throughout his entire body.
"Roxana," he called her.
Roxana looked at him with a serious expression, her eyes slightly trembling. "...Just as I said," she whispered in a faint voice, "they have arranged my marriage... and there is nothing I can do."
The silence that followed was thick, almost unbreathable.
Lucien watched her without blinking. At first, he smiled, a weak, empty smile... but that curve slowly twisted into something darker.
"Heh~" A hollow laugh escaped his throat.
A heavy murderous intent began to emanate from his body, as if the very air around him was warping. The shadows vibrated, responding to his fury.
The family of his beloved...
They had dared to arrange a marriage for her.
Just imagining Roxana, his wife, being treated as another man’s property made his hatred spread like poison through his veins. His breathing became irregular, his chest rising and falling violently.
"Hahaha..." He laughed. "This must be some kind of sick joke. Could my beloved Honey belong to someone else...?" he muttered under his breath, a trembling grimace tearing across his face. He leaned against the bed, bringing a hand to his chest. His heart was beating so hard it felt like it was going to break his ribs.
"Unforgivable!"
The air became thick. His face began to deform, half devoured by a dark mass, leaving only one red eye and sharp teeth, and half normal.
Then Roxana’s voice washed over him like a gentle breeze: "Darling... calm down, please."
Lucien slowly raised his head. His eyes locked onto hers.
"Calm down?" he growled in a tone that didn’t seem to belong to him. "How do you expect me to calm down... when you’re going to be someone else’s?"
"Calm down, you didn’t let me finish," Roxana said with a loving smile, seeing how concerned Lucien was about her, which made him fall even more in love with her.
Lucien sighs and calms his emotions, his whole face returning to normal: "It’s true."
Seeing that Lucien has calmed down, Roxana continues: "I told them I was married, but they didn’t care, and the head of the family organized a fight between the two families and said that the winner could take me."
"Ha, ha... HAHAHAHAHA!" He laughs loudly, and his eyes glow bright red. He can’t believe what he’s hearing. It was a joke, right? It has to be a joke, RIGHT? "Can I join that fight?" he asked.
"Yes, the fight will be in three months." Roxana’s voice sounded calm, but there was something in her tone that betrayed a slight discomfort.
"Three months?" Lucien repeated quietly. His eyes narrowed as he processed the information. Then, with a slight smile on his lips, he added, "I can’t wait to see the face of my wife’s family leader." He spoke calmly, but his expression told a different story.
After a brief silence, Lucien tilted his head. "But I didn’t know vampires arranged marriages."
Roxana let out a soft laugh, though without a trace of amusement. "No, exactly an arranged marriage," she replied. "We noble vampires have absurdly long lives... and over time, everything becomes monotonous. Power and strength are the only things that really matter."
"And I," Roxana continued, with a slight bitterness in her voice, "being the weakest member of my family, cannot refuse. Even if I tried, they would force me to do it."
Her fingers played with a strand of her hair, a nervous gesture that contrasted with her apparent serenity.
"That’s why they set the fight for three months from now," she concluded with a sigh. "It’s an excuse to entertain themselves... to calm their boredom."
Lucien was silent for a few seconds, contemplating her. His eyes showed a mixture of understanding and a hint of restrained anger. Then, in a deeper voice, he said:
"So it’s not a fight... It’s a game for them."
Roxana looked away, avoiding answering. Deep down, she knew he was right.
...
Outside the mansion.
Kanata observed the newcomer with a neutral expression, not moving a muscle on her face.
Even so, her eyes moved discreetly, scanning the entrance and the nearby bushes.
"Well?" she finally asked, in a calm tone. "To what do I owe the honor of your visit, Lady Selene?"
Selene smiled with an almost theatrical elegance, revealing just the tip of one of her fangs.
"I came to see my darling," she replied in a honeyed, almost sing-song voice.
The gleam in her eyes betrayed that she was holding back. Just a moment ago, she had felt Lucien’s emotional outpouring. Part of her wanted to burst into the mansion immediately, tear down the doors, and cross the threshold without waiting for an invitation.
But she didn’t.
After all, a noble lady doesn’t smash down doors.
She wasn’t that kind of vampire.
She was a good vampire.
"Umu... I’m a good vampire," she said to herself quietly, smiling proudly, as if she had just won a small moral battle.
Kanata watched her silently for a few more seconds, trying to figure out if she was serious or if it was a psychological game.
"So you’ve come to see Lord Lucien too," she said finally, letting out a slight sigh. "That man is really popular."
"Of course he is," replied Selene, puffing out her chest with a dazzling smile. "Because he’s my darling~!"
Kanata blinked, resigned, and ran a hand over her face.
"I understand," she murmured. Very popular, no doubt."
Selene didn’t seem to hear her. Without losing her smile or the elegance of her gait, she walked past her.
"We’ll talk later," she said with a gentle wave of her hand, without looking back.
Kanata watched her as she walked through the front door with complete naturalness.
She sighed again.
