Chapter 43 - Local Paladin Murdered Governor’s Butler And Accused the Governor of Heresy.

After securing the dance room system, Parita postponed the streaming schedule. She did her time in the prison by eating and sleeping. The rest of her time was spent in the dance room system, rehearsing for the debut concert.

A song wasn’t hard to sing, but singing the right notes and conveying emotions were tricky. Even though Parita’s body and throat automatically moved, she had to cooperate to produce the correct tune.

Then, there was a dancing part. Memorizing the choreography was not as simple as it would be. She fumbled several times whenever the system allowed her to dance on her own.

Because of the challenge, she spent the days practicing in the dream world. She woke up to satisfy her physical necessity. The rest of her time was spent in the dance room.

The release date soon arrived.

.

.

H5N8 and his men visited the prison. Neutrophils accompanied them to ensure Parita’s safety.

The torchlight illuminated the pitch-black dungeon, and the visitors found the cages that they had locked the bitten suspects within. However, they found two piles of ashes and a sleeping elf.

H5N8 glanced at the pile of ash inside H5N9’s cell. He scoffed.

"I see that he mutated. But how did he turn into ash? Paladin, did you do this?"

Neutrophils smirked and glanced at Parita. He could tell that it was her work, but he kept it to himself.

"Look at me. I’m just an old man. I don’t have enough strength to infiltrate this place and kill a scorched. Also, I’ve been busy because of you and your... mObiLiZaTiOn oRdEr..."

H5N8 clicked his tongue. He suspected that Neutrophils had been secretly visiting the jail and feeding Parita, but he didn’t have proof. Switching topics, he turned to Parita and knocked on the cage.

"Wake up, elf!"

Parita snored and scratched her exposed belly. Because of her defenseless posture, she revealed the under area of her chest.

H5N8 gulped. He had the urge to drag Parita to his bedroom and have his way with her. He glanced at Neutrophils, who also predicted the governor’s thoughts.

"Don’t even think about it, you trash."

The soldiers behind H5N8 raised their spears, pointing at Neutrophils because of his remark. The paladin sneered and grabbed a spear tip. With a little force, the spear tip was crushed.

"Get those toys out of my face, kids. This is between me and your trashy governor."

H5N8 frowned. "You’ve grown bold, Paladin. Did the little game a few days ago change you?"

"You’ve missed out on something good, governor."

Neutrophils pulled out a pistol, which he had obtained from the game. He pointed at H5N8’s stomach and threatened him.

"Let me remind you of our previous deal in case you’ve forgotten. The elf lad over there is not infected. You have no right to detain her."

H5N8 stared at the mysterious pistol. He recalled the livestream when Parita played a strange game with her viewers. Unfortunately, because of Andean Condor’s ambush, H5N8 had to stay home and recover his mana and blood. Moreover, he got busy tracking down Andean and his family’s locations, so he didn’t have time to join Parita’s games.

"...You’re lucky this time, paladin."

Neutrophils laughed. "Unlock the door. I’ll carry her to the adventurer guild."

"No need. My men will take care of her. I’ll take responsibility and take her to my mansion."

"Over my dead body, you pervert. I’ll remind you again: Don’t even think about it."

Neutrophils shifted his pistol and pointed the muzzle at the butler of H5N8, who had been standing next to his master. The pistol turned glow.

BANG

After pulling the trigger, the butler’s head splattered like a watermelon being shot by a 50-cal rifle. However, the person’s blood was black.

The butler was not a human, elf, beastman, lizardman, or an ally. Black blood was a trait exclusively found in the Scorched, an ally of the Hungers.

The soldiers nearby got startled and screamed in fright for many reasons. They backed away from Neutrophils and the dead butler.

H5N8 didn’t flinch. He looked at the dead butler and snorted.

"I see you’ve been having fun with that toy."

Neutrophils pointed the pistol at H5N8’s forehead next, but he walked toward the butler. After he stepped on the body’s chest, the corpse rose up.

The paladin pulled a dagger from his belt and injected his golden aura into the weapon. With a swift motion, he stabbed the corpse in the left chest, piercing through its heart.

The moving corpse stopped and fell to the ground. Gradually, it disintegrated into ash, leaving behind a black marble. Neutrophils picked it up and crushed it in his palm.

Neutrophils smirked and mocked H5N8. "Did you know that your subordinate was a heretic?"

H5N8 shrugged. "To be honest, no. I’m very surprised myself."

"Lying through your teeth as always, I see. How about I test you next?"

"Killing me? Can you handle the consequences? If I die, who will suppress the Vulture and the Condor Family? Who will deal with the Tartarus Tower in my place?"

"..."

Neutrophils gave H5N8 a meaningful look and put the gun away. He grabbed the prison door and pulled it, breaking the locks and the hinges. He approached Parita and carried her on his shoulder.

Parita remained asleep despite all the commotion. Neutrophils gave a wry smile, pondering whether she had fallen unconscious because of starvation or dehydration.

"Make way!"

The soldiers parted ways and let Neutrophils pass. H5N8 smacked his lips and didn’t stop him.

After leaving the dungeon, Neutrophils brought Parita to the guild’s building and handed her to Lupus and Rubella. As for him, he headed toward the south gate to regroup with the adventurer teams, who had been assigned to mobilize south.

.

.

.

Parita awoke with a groan, as if she were exhausted after working a full day. She stretched and yawned.

A second later, she paused mid-motion. Parita couldn’t feel the cold hard floor in the prison. She opened her eyes and sprang up.

Rubella was in front of her. Their faces were so close that they almost kissed.

Instead of flinching, Parita blinked several times as she was processing the information. As for Rubella, her face reddened, and she shrieked.

Parita covered her long ears. The loud noise pierced her eardrums.

"Not too loud!"

Rubella covered her mouth and regained her senses. She took a step backward and stood up.

"Y-You’re finally awake!"

"Well, yeah. Thank God I’m not sitting on a prisoner’s card."

"Huh?"

"Never mind. How long have I been rescued?"

Rubella smiled wryly. "Half a day. It is almost sundown."

"...Oh."

"We were very worried. You stopped using your power, and everybody thought something might have happened to you. The guildmaster and the people from the Eagle Clan were planning to break into the prison to get you out, but Sir Neutrophils stopped us."

Parita laughed inwardly. She wondered whether Bald Eagle and the others had mastered the guns yet since they benefited from her streams.

"It’s fine. I’m alright. Actually, I was so bored that I slept all day."

"Also, are your eyes fine? You’ve been staying in the dark for a week. Do not look around too fast, or your eyesight will be ruined."

"I have night vision. Don’t worry about it."

"...Oh, right. Some elves have that."

"..."

Parita paused and broke a sweat. Her mouth slipped, but the world’s culture saved her skin once more. She tapped her lips with her index finger three times as a reminder to consider her words before speaking.

She shifted her gaze and looked down. Fortunately, she still had clothes on, but they were loose.

Rubella noticed Parita’s gaze and coughed. She reminded her.

"You were saved by Sir Neutrophils. Next time, be more mindful of your attire. Stop wearing light clothes when you’re outside. You’re pretty. You might draw in the wrong people, and you’ll get yourself in trouble."

"Yeah, I know."

Parita snickered. Although the advice was legitimate, she didn’t think much of it. If perverted men showed up to assault her, she could always deal with them with brute force.

Parita forgot about it.
