Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon-Chapter 248 - 247 Firepower Paves the Way
Chapter 248: Chapter 247: Firepower Paves the Way
Chapter 248 -247: Firepower Paves the Way
“So what’s the mission for this Paradise game?” Anthony asked expectantly.
“Parasitic seeds have appeared here,” Chaoyang briefly recounted what had happened in M City, but entirely omitted the part about the Angel, “According to intelligence, the source of this disaster is likely on an isolated island to the west. There might be a secret base beneath it, and your objective is to break in and uncover why the parasitic seeds were drawn to Earth.”

“My God…” Cui Zhen’en murmured, “Did we do something terribly wrong?”
“Could it be that the followers of the Causal Sect have also come to this world?” Qianyuan Meiko looked tense. Others might not understand, but Chaoyang knew what she was worried about. If the cultists could turn those implanted with the “seeds” into monsters, then her father was undoubtedly among the first to be affected.
Zhang Zhiyuan was thinking further ahead, “I want to know if the defenders of the base are ordinary people or cultists. If the former, which country do they belong to? We’re not at Magnificent Castle now, and even if we’re dealing with terrorists, we should still abide by international law…”
“Ha, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Mr. Justice get sick, couldn’t help it, could you?” Anthony scoffed, “Please think about it, if they’re Earthlings who want to use the power of the Evil God for their own ends, can such people even be considered terrorists? No… They’ve already positioned themselves against all mankind, calling them traitors wouldn’t be too far-fetched. Ordinary laws don’t apply to them, physical eradication is the best option.”
“As for the intel inside the base, you’ll have to confirm it yourselves,” Chaoyang replied.
“Can I ask for instructions from my superiors?”
“Of course, just treat it as one of the previous Paradise games,” he readily consented, “You’re still guests of Paradise, and none of your actions will be restricted.”
Zhang Zhiyuan walked to the stern and took out a satellite phone to dial the number of Director Gao.
Two minutes later, he returned to the foredeck, “I have no problem now.”
Curious, Cui Zhen’en approached him and whispered, “What did they say up there?”
“They told us to maintain our relationship with Paradise, ensure the host’s safety, and make sure the Divine Artifacts are not misused. They’ve already checked, Walazak Island doesn’t belong to any country, and if anyone fires at us, we have the right to retaliate,” Zhang Zhiyuan replied.
“Got it,” Cui Zhen’en covered her mouth, “Let our companions start first, we’ll only join the battle later, and it’ll count as legitimate self-defense; naturally, we won’t break our oath.”
“What oath?”
“It means we’re still standing on the side of goodness.” She smiled and patted his shoulder, “Don’t feel too pressured, I think Anthony has a point. We can’t let the power of the Evil God erode this world, don’t you agree?”
“I hope the outcome will be as you wish,” Zhang Zhiyuan nodded.
After sailing under the clear blue skies for about an hour and a half, a pale grey island began to emerge on the horizon.
“There really doesn’t seem to be any sign of human habitation on the island,” Ailuodi leapt down from the cabin roof and walked over to Chaoyang who was steering, “How do you plan to find the entrance? It could be hidden under sand or rocks, or it might not be here at all.”
She hadn’t asked before, but she knew he must have a solution.
“I have no intention of searching,” Chaoyang left the helm, “You take over and steady the ship for now, don’t get too close.”
Then he approached the shipboard radio, concentrated, and activated his Cyber Eye ability!
…
500 kilometers away, a US Navy destroyer with the hull number DDG107 was en route to the port of Hawaii, carrying out a new rotation task. Captain Prence stood before the bridge window, listlessly watching the unchanging scenery before him, his thoughts drifting to the bars in Hawaii.
It’s undeniably more relaxing to be on duty in the eastern Pacific; although they were sailing on the high seas, Prence saw this place as almost no different from an inland sea. Within a five-thousand-nautical-mile radius, they hardly encounter any threat. It may be somewhat dull, but it’s much preferable to taking on missions in the Second Island Chain, where one must remain on high alert.
Even when the alarm’s buzz began to sound within the cabin, he thought he was hallucinating.
It was only when the other crew members in the command room turned their heads to look at him did he realize the alarm was actually ringing.
“Damn rabbit offspring,” Prence angrily took off his walkie-talkie and shouted at the weapons officer, “Who the hell touched the alarm switch? Turn it off!”
Because this was not an alarm for an enemy attack.
It was an indication that the warship had entered launch status, requiring immediate clearing of the deck to prevent injury from the missile’s tail flame.
“Report, report, Lieutenant Colonel, we didn’t do anything…” the weapons officer stammered as if he had seen something unbelievable, “You, you better come and see for yourself, there is a major problem with the weapons system. No… damn it, it’s completely out of our control now!”
Prence frowned, what kind of nonsense were his subordinates talking about? Were all the officers and soldiers on this ship first-timers?
“If there’s a problem with the system, you can shut it down and restart, or have the logistics team check it. I mean, turn off the alarm first, don’t disturb the other departments!”
What came from the other end was a frantic and chaotic noise.
“…coordinates are locked.”
“Launch positions 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 are being injected with coolant, I can’t stop it!”
“Find a way to shut down the system!”
“No good, the power can’t be cut off!”
“Captain sir! Look at the deck—” the observer suddenly exclaimed.
Prence quickly walked to the porthole, with cold sweat immediately breaking out on his forehead. He could see the vertical launch system’s hatch covers had opened on the front deck, and he could even make out the missile warheads in the launch cells.
At that moment, there were still over a dozen sailors resting on the deck. They had noticed the opening of the hatch covers but, as there was no exercise scheduled for today, no one paid any attention, assuming it was just a weapons system check.
Prence’s muscles reacted faster than his brain. He immediately switched the walkie to the external speaker channel, “Get the fuck off the deck! This is not a drill, anyone who doesn’t want to turn into roast goose get back inside the cabin!”
Only then did the sailors react, scrambling off their loungers.
“Stop packing up your chairs, run!”
He had to urge them again.
That’s when the first officer saw the countdown to launch illuminated on the console. “Lieutenant Colonel Prence, the launch has been authorized, a total of five Tomahawk 5 cruise missiles, countdown ten seconds, timing has started!”
Prence felt like he had heard the funniest joke in the world.
Authorized? Everyone in the command room could see that he hadn’t given any such order!
In his heart, there was even a trace of hope that all of this was just a system display malfunction and that when the countdown reached zero, nothing would happen.
However, the smoke and flames shooting out from the vertical launch cells destroyed his last bit of hope.
The missiles soared into the sky one after another like swordfish leaping out of the water, heading southwest!
Prence stood frozen in place for a while before saying, “Get me connected to the Pacific Joint Command…”
The only thing left for him to do now… was to immediately report to his superiors to prevent escalation and avoid a military misjudgment by the country on the other side of the sea.
