Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength-Chapter 536 - 533: Nighttime Activities
Chapter 536: Chapter 533: Nighttime Activities
Bapulor strictly adhered to the agreed time.
On the third night, the cult magician knocked on Ronald’s apartment door right on time.
Clang, clang, clang—
"Ronald, are you home?"
"..."
"You are quite punctual, Bapulor."
Ronald, who had long been prepared, opened the door to find the silhouette of the cult magician at the threshold. Tonight, Bapulor was finally not dressed in his usual employee attire but in a dark red, ancient-looking robe.
Ronald took a careful look.
He could barely sense a hint of secret, sinister magic power from the robe.
It was certainly a magic item of exquisite craftsmanship, and it might even be something renowned within the Bapulor school.
The cult magician calmly accepted Ronald’s scrutiny.
His gaze flickered past the doorway into the apartment, and not seeing the figure of Haloys, he indifferently turned his attention back to Ronald:
"Shall we go?"
"Let’s go."
It was already late.
Ronald and Bapulor left the apartment and walked onto the streets, where hardly anyone could be seen outside in the riverside district, the only company being the boats on the Wis River.
It was only after leaving the street where the apartment was located.
Ronald took the initiative to ask:
"Bapulor, you should have a detailed plan for tonight, right?"
The cult magician immediately responded:
"Not only tonight’s route, but I have also prepared for what’s to come. However, this group of people are not the law-abiding type. In just these few days, two families have already gotten into trouble and were caught red-handed by the investigative bureau."
"..."
Should one commend the investigative bureau for their remarkable capabilities or lament that these casters just need to be disciplined?
Pondering over what he had seen and heard in Springs in recent days.
Ronald couldn’t help but shake his head.
The pace of the world’s era was astonishingly rapid, but many on the mystical side failed to keep up. Especially those magicians who had rushed to Springs from other places after hearing the news, some of whom even made hilarious blunders.
Living in such a complex environment was tough for these individuals who only understood studying spells.
While contemplating this in his heart, Ronald continued speaking to Bapulor as they moved forward:
"Since that’s the case, then let’s discuss the route."
The cult magician immediately replied:
"Tonight, we are going to deal with five troublesome groups. The first three belong to those with little ability, merely opportunists. A lesson should make them tuck their tails between their legs and scuttle out of Springs."
"The last two, however... are going to be more troublesome. They are stubborn fools, and without employing some powerful tactics, they definitely won’t be easy to handle."
"..."
Ronald listened quietly to Bapulor’s briefing.
In the past three days, Ronald had also made preparations and had taken the time with Haloys to conduct the most basic investigation on the forces listed. The cult magician had not used Ronald to strike at his enemies; the descriptions in the plan matched the investigation results exactly.
After laying out the plans for the evening’s operations,
Bapulor started to chat with Ronald in a disengaged manner.
The two maintained this state, steadily walking through the night of Springs.
The first target’s stronghold was in the eastern district of the city.
Leaving the riverside district for more than half an hour, Ronald and Bapulor arrived on the outskirts of the opposing stronghold.
It was an inconspicuous two-story building, indistinguishable from the surrounding residential houses. Even by the standards of the mystical side’s casters, it gave off a somewhat impoverished vibe.
Fury focused his gaze on the building in front of him, Ronald slightly adjusted the range of his reconnaissance using the power of "Fury." The four individuals, calm and collected, were inside, their names matching perfectly with the personnel list provided by Bapulor.
"All four are inside, shall we go in?"
Hearing Ronald state the situation inside the house in one breath, a smile crept onto Bapulor’s face beneath his dark crimson robe:
"I’ll go and have a word with them first, Ronald, you just stand by outside and hold the fort."
"Actually, I have quite a bit of confidence in my own eloquence."
No sooner had the words fallen than Bapulor boldly walked forward and knocked on the door quite politely.
Knock knock knock—
"Ain, Langdon, are you home?"
"I have a product... some matters I’d like to discuss with you all!"
Ronald silently took two steps back and then crossed his arms over his chest, attentively watching Bapulor’s actions.
This move wasn’t because Ronald thought Bapulor was going to run into trouble.
Instead, tonight’s operation was his first time in a strict sense cooperating with this cult sorcerer, and he was now observing the other’s habits to properly respond to various situations that might arise later on.
The situation at the house continued.
After Bapulor knocked, the four individuals inside suddenly tightened up, and one who was more composed quickly came to the door.
This guy didn’t open the door but shouted through it to the outside:
"Bapulor, what are you doing at my place!"
"Do you think the Investigation Bureau isn’t giving you enough trouble, and you want to hand yourself over to be caught?"
Although the person shouting was the more composed one among the four,
still, faced with the notorious cult leader knocking at the door, his tone inevitably carried a trace of timidity.
And then... then Bapulor laughed.
He, clad in his dark crimson robe, had a smile he believed to be rather friendly on his face, and his palm, suffused with Magic Power, directly poked the doorknob.
In an instant.
The door lock was melted into a mud-like substance by an unknown spell, flowing onto the ground and forming a puddle.
Bapulor easily pushed open the door, which was no longer locked.
With one step, he stood before the person in the room.
"Friend, thank you for your reminder. I hadn’t thought before coming today that there would actually be someone concerned about whether I’d be caught by the Investigation Bureau!"
Bapulor appeared to take the other’s threat as a well-meaning warning,
so much so that within Ronald’s Reconnaissance Magic, he actually could feel his joy.
However, standing in front of Bapulor,
the one who had just spoken to him through the door was anything but calm.
Watching a cult sorcerer in a dark crimson robe approach, the man’s voice even trembled:
"What... what do you want?"
"Bapulor, we haven’t been looking to provoke you, have we?"
The cult sorcerer’s smile widened as he shook his head and took the initiative to reveal his purpose:
"Actually, I have no other business."
"It’s just that I’ve heard you guys haven’t been very quiet lately, so I specifically came over to give a few words of advice. Springs has been very complicated recently, and people are dying left and right. Keeping in mind factors of personal safety, I advise you to stay out of Dantrian’s affairs and just quietly go home."
Click—
Hearing Bapulor’s ’advice’,
the person conversing with him changed color drastically and fell backward, ending up sitting on the floor.
"How... how did you know about this?"
"It was supposed to be top-secret information!"
