Myths Reawakened-Chapter 304 (2): Despicable, Treacherous, Distorting Truths, Hypocritical Snob
“Wake up. The Queen may be beautiful, but as your senior in life, I’d advise you to give up,” Wayne said coolly. “Beauty ultimately becomes nothing more than a pile of bones. I, on the other hand, prefer the skeletal beauty.”
Julia perked up. She knew that Master loved her.
Coming from the Death Knight, talks about abstinence carried more weight, but Douglas had no interest in dwelling on it. He steered the conversation back on track.
“Sir Knight, Auston used his position as the liaison to fool Her Majesty and you, being disloyal to Her Majesty and dishonest to you. That’s why I replaced him. Nothing more.”
When the Death Knight didn’t say anything, Douglas breathed a sigh of relief and continued, “I’m here for another matter. Her Majesty has prepared her goodwill and hopes that you’ll appear at the critical moment as her ally.”
“Oh? What is the Queen doing?” Wayne’s curiosity was piqued. “Speak plainly. I don’t like people who only tell half the story like Auston. Don’t worry. My previous experience with the Queen was quite pleasant, and I promised that I would welcome more of such collaborations.”
“Sir Knight, a world war has erupted. The situation in Windsor is far from ideal. The Life Alliance and the Church of Heavenly Father are encroaching, and the Church of Death...”
“That’s enough. You’re even more dishonest than Auston!” Wayne scoffed derisively. “I told you, just tell me what the Queen wants. Don’t try to make it seem like you’re doing this for my benefit. The Church of Death? You speak as if you know the goddess well.”
“You’re right, Sir Knight.”
With strength came privileges, and the strong were predictably unpredictable. Douglas had no choice but to follow the Death Knight’s way.
Also, the Death Knight had been mentioning Auston every three sentences, which was bizarre. What was so great about Auston that everyone who had ever met him couldn’t stop thinking about him? This was supposed to be a conversation between Douglas and the Death Knight, yet the ex-liaison kept coming up. It was grating.
“Sir Knight, Her Majesty is preparing to reclaim the power she had delegated in the past, preparing for war and the encroachment from the Life Alliance and the Church of Heavenly Father. The Tulip Families, who benefitted from the delegation of power, are gathering strength to strike back. Her Majesty hopes that you’ll stand by her as an ally.” 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
“The Tulip Families? She needs my intervention for that?” Wayne said mockingly. “If the Queen doesn’t even have the power to do that herself, she should forget about resisting the Life Alliance or the Church of Heavenly Father. She’ll only drag the country down with her.”
“You misunderstand. It’s only the Tulip Families. Since Her Majesty was confident enough to delegate power to them, she naturally could reclaim it at any time. The problem lies with the churches. The Life Alliance has deep ties with the Tulip Families; their interests are entangled. If Her Majesty wants to uproot the Tulip Families completely, she will threaten the churches’ core interests. That’s why she needs your power.”
“There’s some logic to that. Go on.”
“Rest assured, Her Majesty doesn’t intend to borrow that blade of yours. When the time comes, you need only to appear as an ally. It’s simple.” Douglas pursed his lips, emphasizing the royal family’s assets before their ally. “Her Majesty has made contact with the Church of Darkness. Their Holy Maiden is in Londan, and soon, the Darkness Knight will join in hunting down the Life Alliance and the Church of Heavenly Father.”
What? What did you just say? [는皿는]
Wayne rubbed his head. What even should he comment on first? That was an explosive exposition that left him dazed.
First, the Holy Maiden of the Church of Darkness? Why did Anastasia come to Londan? Had she finally lost her self-control and decided to follow Senna’s example? That wouldn’t do. She was the Church of Darkness’s Holy Maiden and the Goddess of Darkness’s vessel in the human world. She needed to maintain her purity.
Fine, she was here now. But why didn’t she visit with gifts? Why did she avoid him? Because she could still endure her urge?
If so, that would be wonderful.
Wayne didn’t comment on Anastasia’s collaboration with the Queen to suppress the Tulip Families and the churches on behalf of the Church of Darkness. It wasn’t because he trusted Anastasia, but because he trusted his own corruption. She would not and could not betray him.
She was likely planning on backstabbing the Queen at the critical moment, offering her faith the gift of loyalty.
Tsk, how pitiful the Queen was!
As for allying with the Death Knight and the Darkness Knight to go after the Tulip Families... Wayne would refrain from commenting on that. The Queen wasn’t omniscient, so it was normal for her to harbor fantasies about the world.
Speaking of which, he wondered what would happen if the two chosen knights the Queen had such high hopes for charged into the Lando Estate. One second, they would be marching through the gate fiercely, and the next, they would kneel, one pinned to the ground and beaten up by Silvia, while the other chased around and beaten up by Veronica. Meanwhile, Julia and Do would be trembling in fear, and Megan would shout for them to stop fighting.
What an interesting tableau that would be!
Wayne was eager to give the Queen a big surprise. She would’ve never expected it. The Lando family was operating under a different set of rules. Facing the Lando family’s evil dragons, the two chosen knights could only submit. It was always the dragons who swung their heavy fists rather than the knights who dominated their opponents.
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. Yes, this was how it should play out.
Should he tell the old man? Better not. The old man still had lingering feelings for his ex-girlfriend. If he told Auston tonight, by tomorrow night, the Queen would learn everything after a moment of passion.
Well, maybe not. Auston wouldn’t tell the Queen the secrets of the knights. To keep the secrets, he didn’t even care about the Princess’s survival.
Wayne could tell him!
Oh, Auston, didn’t you want to demonstrate your loyalty? I’ll give you a chance to do that!
“Kekekeke—” Wayne laughed out loud. “How fascinating! I look forward to it, very much so. To work with the Darkness Knight to kill the heretics of the Life Alliance... Just thinking about it makes my bones tremble with excitement.”
The edge of madness fit Douglas’s stereotypical impression of religious people. He didn’t understand what was so exciting about working with the Darkness Knight, but the madness was much better than the gossipy version of the Death Knight, who kept talking about how Auston slept with Douglas’s wife.
“Does this mean yes, Sir Knight?”
“Of course. Why would I refuse? Go make the arrangements and be bold in formulating your plans. Don’t worry about escalating things too much. I’ll take care of it if anything goes wrong.”
Wayne sounded eager. “The sooner the better. My Shadow Nightmare yearns the blood of the Tulip Families.”
The Death Knight had neither a face nor skin, so there were no changing expressions to observe. His excited tone didn’t seem fake, though. He truly was eager.
Douglas’s heart finally settled. He indicated that the Queen would arrange things quickly, and the Death Knight would soon get to surround the Tulip Families.
“Wait, don’t leave yet,” Wayne called out to Douglas before the man could go. He said mockingly, “In Auston’s reports to the Queen, did he ever mention my particular preferences?”
Douglas was thoroughly confused. Auston did submit mission reports, which Douglas had read. In them, Auston evaluated the Death Knight harshly and repeatedly emphasized the knight’s unreasonable, overbearing behavior. In what way, Auston hadn’t specified.
Douglas had thought that it was the Death Knight’s love for gossip that warranted the comments, but now it seemed that there was more.
“Butt!”
Wayne’s shocking statement made Douglas blanch.
“Every time Auston came to see me, after we finished talking business, he would lift his bottom and wait for me to grace him. Since you’ve taken over his role, you should naturally do the same.”
Douglas gasped. Once wasn’t enough, so he gasped a second time.
He never imagined that the Death Knight would have picked up the local habits within two years of leaving Palis for Londan. But even if Douglas could lift his bottom, could the Death Knight really do it?
That part didn’t have bones!
“What are you waiting for? Turn around!” Wayne sneered. When Douglas seemed hesitant, he said disdainfully, “If you can’t even sacrifice your bottom, how dare you speak of loyalty? You’re far inferior to Auston.”
Douglas seethed. He could accept any other criticisms, but not being told he was inferior to Auston. He gritted his teeth and stomped, turning around to bend over. His grimly determined expression made it seem like he was ready to present a wreath to Death.
“Not bad. The curves are about Auston’s match. No wonder the Queen chose you as his successor.”
“...”
He hated being Auston’s substitute!
Wayne had no interest in Douglas’s rear end. It would be different if it were Auston. He snapped his fingers, and Julia breathed out purple flames as she clip-clopped to Douglas.
Douglas went from pale to purple with fear. As the Prince Consort, he had ridden more fine horses than ordinary people had ever seen. He knew that ordinary noble ladies couldn’t handle one.
He never expected Auston, who looked like a respectable gentleman, to be such an accommodating man!
Douglas’s legs trembled, but he managed to stop himself from running away. He would prove that he was just as good as Auston, if not better. What Auston could do, he could, too, and he could do better.
Bam!
Julia kicked him with her hind legs, leaving two hoof prints on Douglas’s bottom before he flew into the air with a flabbergasted expression. All he heard was the whistling wind and the Death Knight’s arrogant laughter. His nervous heart relaxed, followed immediately by a pain that reached his bones.
His butt hurt! His heart hurt even more!
The Death Knight had done this on purpose to ruthlessly toy with his dignity. Once he made a fool of himself, the knight tossed him to the ground and trampled him.
Now, Douglas understood Auston’s harsh remarks in his report. He had never agreed with Auston so completely until this. The Death Knight was unreasonable and overbearing, a complete bastard!
“Baron, make the arrangements quickly. Bo will wait for you at the detective agency every night. Don’t keep me waiting. As for the price... After it’s done, I’ll take the time to negotiate with the Queen. If the work turns out interesting, my service will be free this time!”
Julia returned to Wayne’s side for comfort after kicking something dirty. Wayne stroked her head and murmured, “What’s free is the most expensive...”
He sent a telepathic message to a distant target.
“Anastasia, come see me!”
