Chapter 313 (2): This Works Much Better than Magic

The Book of Greed gulped everything down in one go. As soon as it swallowed, the Book of Hell went from an epic item to a regular item. All the information it contained was plundered by the Book of Greed before being sorted into various smaller eyeballs.

The eyeball representing Hell surpassed Heaven overwhelmingly. Setting aside the Divine Comedy of the Seven Deadly Sins and a limited amount of the Golden Law, Wayne tasted some strange information. His skull tilted as he looked at the royal family in disbelief.

It was the taste of angels!

Not angels reincarnated into humans, but actual angels that came in strange forms. The Windsor royal family had the bloodline of Heaven.

If you came from Heaven, why do you insist on fighting the Church of Heavenly Father? Do experts really focus on only infighting?

Compared to the Queen’s family having heaven’s bloodline, what shocked Wayne even more was the fact that angels could reproduce and leave descendants in the mortal realm.

Do those freaks even have the necessary appendages? I thought they didn’t even have sexual traits.

Whose children are they? How did the actual process go? Why aren’t the details explained?

Wayne was flabbergasted. Since he had no clue what the truth was, he decided to look on the bright side. When he played a reincarnated angel in the future, he would be able to play them more convincingly with added special effects. One day, he might just enter Heaven as a fake angel.

Auston came up to Wayne and said with displeasure, “Why did you take the book? It looks sinister. Don’t let yourself be used.”

Don’t worry. The book is nothing but blank pages now.

Sensing Auston’s concern, Wayne said, “You know me. I’m more sinister than the book. It can’t do anything to me.”

Auston shook his head. “I’m not worried about you, but those around you. A number of them are important to me. Don’t let your pride drag them into this.”

“Don’t worry. I can suppress the book.”

“What about the owner of the book?”

“Should I throw it away now?”

“There’s no point in doing it now...” Auston shot Wayne a glare before establishing a private chat. “I don’t want to expose myself to the royal family, so I’ll wait for you outside. Bring the Queen out. I’m begging you—please don’t cause more trouble.”

Wayne nodded. His original plan had been to crown Auston so that he would be the one suffering and overworking himself while Wayne enjoyed a life of exploiting others as a prince. Halfway through, though, it turned out that there were other major players in Londan. If he put Auston front and center, Auston wouldn’t be the only one suffering.

To prevent the Lando family from being left with only one male member, Wayne made a decisive modification to the plan. Auston would be regent instead.

The Darkness Knight strode away. The Death Knight surveyed the Grey Space, attempting to summon Julia. He succeeded on the first try.

The Grey Space was a fallen Divine Realm. Julia could open portals to not only the Chosen Land. Perhaps she could even teleport to the living Divine Realms.

As expected of a magical creature that the Goddess of Death had personally created. She was a rare, shining SSR character.

With her portals, Wayne could bring people out easily. While Julia carried the Princess and Prince out by biting onto their clothes, he marched up to the Queen and leaned down to laugh heartily.

“Kekekeke—”

“Your Majesty, did the Darkness Knight say something to you earlier? Such as the Lando family being loyal, and he supporting you as monarch?”

“I can guarantee you that he’s being truthful. The Lando family is truly loyal. Both Aston and Wayne, the next family head, are devoted to you.”

“I only said those words in the banquet hall to deceive Douglas. You know I’ve had quite an antagonistic relationship with demons in Hell, which is why I went after him like that.”

Sophelia didn’t say anything. Her husband was dead, but she felt no sadness. Perhaps she had grown used to his ‘death’, or perhaps she simply found him unworthy of her feelings. His death didn’t cause much of a ripple in her heart.

On the contrary, after narrowly surviving the crisis, her brain followed her new position and started thinking about the future of the royal family and Windsor.

“What are you trying to say, Death Knight?”

“Loyalty!”

“Death Knight, you’re loyal to the Goddess of Death. You have nothing to do with me, and I never expected to gain your loyalty.”

Sophelia had no cards in the game. As a mere potato on the cutting board, she said without reservation, “You need not try to sow discord. All four churches support the Lando family and even sent two chosen knights. Auston can’t decide the future alone. I know he has no choice. So, tell me, what are you planning?”

Keep your misunderstanding, Sis.

“Since you want me to be open with you, I will. War is about to break out. The Darkness Knight and I have chosen the Lando family. The churches won’t interfere with Windsor’s politics. Auston will serve as a regent to help you govern the nation.”

“That’s it?” Sophelia smiled bitterly. What a generous arrangement. She should even thank the churches.

“There’s more, of course, but it has nothing to do with the churches. It’s purely my assumptions.” Wayne’s glowing white eyes flickered. Once Julia had moved everyone out, leaving him and the Queen alone, he rubbed his hands together and said, “Back in the Great Cemetery, I heard plenty of gossip about you and Auston. I want to know how much of it is true.”

(눈‸눈)

One second, he was bringing about a regime change, and the next, he asked for juicy gossip. He did whatever he wanted. Was this how the strong acted?

“Say something, Queen,” Wayne urged. “Or I’m going to assume everything is true.”

“Auston and I have moved on. Our relationship is all in the past, and we both have our marriages. As a subject, he’s loyal to me, and I trust his loyalty.” Sophelia gave a definitive end to the scandal—there was none. It was all rumors. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

“While you were dating, how far did you go?”

Sophelia kept her face blank, unwilling to dwell on the past.

Wayne was disappointed. He planned to break into Buckingham Palace in a few days. He helped the weakened Queen up and brought her through the portal, back to the ruined office building.

Julia had marked the Grey Space. Wayne would return to devour it soon. Time had changed. The royal family no longer needed hidden aces, or the relationship between the Queen and the regent would sour.

When the Death Knight appeared with the Queen, four legendary mages returned. Yvette and Hermann had confronted Bourne and Bedfrith. Seeing Bourne and Bedfrith covered in wounds and being sealed once more, it appeared that the battle had been quite even.

Yes, Bourne and Bedfrith weren’t dead, and Yvette and Hermann weren’t injured. They were evenly matched.

Under Frank’s control, Bourne and Bedfrith couldn’t tap into much of their power. Now reduced to prisoners, they sighed and lamented the unfairness of fate.

With Frank’s death, the voices in their heads were gone, too, returning their rationality to them. They thus surrendered.

Although they were charged as traitors, it wasn’t without benefits: they had avoided any chance at redeeming themselves, overtaking all traitors before them.

Yvette and Hermann watched helplessly as the Queen returned as the Death Knight’s captive. They had done their best, but their enemies were out of their league. Both felt deeply ashamed for failing the trust Sophelia had put in them over the years.

“Yvette, Hermann, you did well in crushing Douglas’s conspiracy tonight.” Sophelia held herself properly as the Queen, speaking in an unhurried manner. She sounded composed and confident, showing no bitterness at being coerced. However, the ugly reality told Yvette and Hermann that only Douglas had been crushed; the Lando family’s conspiracy had succeeded.

Yvette glanced at Sophelia, asking whether they should resist.

Sophelia had lost too much blood. She was so weak that she was barely keeping herself from collapsing into the Death Knight’s arms. Unable to take much more physical strain, she had accepted her fate.

Just then, Auston strode over and saw the unconscious members of the royal family on the ground and the Queen, whom the Death Knight was propping up. He froze.

How did you get back before me? Auston eyed him.

Wayne met his gaze. I used a portal.

Auston was speechless. Having no time to bicker with Trash Jr., he stepped forward and bowed, “Your Majesty, under your order, all traitors have been executed. It’s getting late. Please rest well. Whatever needs discussing can wait until tomorrow.”

Are you ordering me?

The shift in their status made Sophelia interpret Auston’s words differently. She sighed softly and staggered away from the Death Knight. “Auston, lend me a hand. There are things I’d like to discuss with you in private.”

Silvia peeked at them, and Filomina was doing the same—she was looking at the Death Knight, trying to find similarities between the skeleton and Wayne.

Auston nodded, stepping forward to support the Queen with a hand on her arm. At her request, they moved away from the others and walked under the street lamps as they talked.

“The Death Knight explained the four churches’ demand. From now on, you’ll assist me in governing Windsor. I’ll still be Queen, but I’ll need your approval on certain matters.”

Auston’s lips pursed. Instead of rejecting her, he said with a frown, “I don’t know state affairs well. I can offer suggestions, but not make decisions. Your Majesty’s authority will remain as before.”

“You’re good at comforting people. How could things possibly be the same as before...?” Sophelia glanced at him. “You love your wife very much, don’t you?”

“I do.”

“Then the nation will have a queen in the future. Elizabeth’s situation is complicated. Perhaps she’ll assimilate with the bloodline of the Lando family in the future.”

Lando family’s bloodline? The Princess? Could Veronica do that?

Trash Jr.’s face surfaced in Auston’s mind. He explained, “Your Majesty, you know me. Wayne isn’t my son.”

“Do you think I’d believe that now, Auston?”

“...”

Please do believe this one thing.
